Passage to Paradise

OOC: I felt like the liver comment might have been too much of a jab. But I feel better now.

Sam bounds up the ladder, then almost slips near the top, barely catching himself. You're alone on the plain, with the beasties still bugling and hooting in the distance.

I'll climb the ladder as well and then pull the rope ladder back up. Is Tom on the palisade or down below?

[madtinker]

He's still up on the palisade. "what are they?" he asks as you pull up the ladder.

[Manwhoisthisman]

"They look like some kind of grazer for sure, but not like anything I've seen around here before. Their legs don't look right mostly. Anyway, we should probably get a new bugle for tonight... Everyone'll be useless tomorrow if they stay up all night waiting here, but it'd also be bad to not have a way to call everyone back that wouldn't be ignored."

Tom considers your information as he sucks on his lollipop. "They look edible? Difficult to kill?"

Sam jumps in "Not if you could isolate one. They shied away from us, so it wouldn't be difficult to herd them. But there's too much meat there for the village to eat more than one a month."

"But they wouldn't be hard to kill if they pushed up against the wall?"

"I should say not."

"Then let's leave a few men here, the rest of us get some sleep. Harker, you take tonight. I'll send along some blankets and food when we get back to town."

[Manwhoisthisman]

I nod at Tom's instructions and climb back down onto the ground inside the wall.

[madtinker]

"Oh, and Tobias, come by the guild house in the morning. We've got to get you some decent equipment."

Also, take 50 xp.

"I suppose that is a good idea if I'm going to keep running out here in the middle of the night," I say with a grin.

[madtinker]

"That's right. Can't have you traipsing around unprepared."

[Manwhoisthisman]

I believe I'll wander back to the family house/shop.

I probably won't finish leveling stuff until the weekend (right now I'm trying to narrow five powers down to two), but this ought to help "HP" - (1d8)[1]. In case you're curious the powers I'm presently waffling on are as follows:

Control Flames to pair up with my Matter Agitation. It would have been useful against the glidewings that took me out (I think). However, it also has great utility for non-combat situations.
Mind Thrust does an awesome amount of damage compared to just about everything else but comes with the drawbacks that it is all or nothing (Will negates) and doesn't work on mindless undead, plants and constructs.

Empathy is very fitting for how I see Tobias, and he'd probably use it a lot to try to get a better read on things.
Sense Link because it is incredibly awesome! I don't think I'd have many uses for it (I think), but it seems like a very fun power.
Missive is classically psychic and would mostly allow quickly getting messages out, which seems to be lacking in this village. However, the range probably makes it less than useless.
Minklink because I don't know what I was thinking when I narrowed down to Missive over Mindlink given that they have the same range at casting time but Mindlink actually lasts quite a while and has intraplanar range once manifest. Mindlink blows Missive out of the water in terms of utility.

It's close to midnight by the time you return. Your father has left a candle burning in a lantern outside the shop.

I'll blow out the candle and step inside, ready to rest.

The shop is dark, but you feel your way upstairs and fall into bed.

You awaken just after dawn to the sounds of your mother setting bowls of porridge on the table for breakfast.

I'll wake up, get dressed and take a moment to think over the prior day, and then proceed to the table. "Good morning," I cheerily say to my mother.

[madtinker]

"Well look who's up. Feeling better?"

[Manwhoisthisman]

I nod, "Yes, much. Quite the difference a good night's sleep can make."

[madtinker]

She looks as though she has more to ask, but decides not to. Instead, she says "Have some breakfast," then calls down the stairs to the workshop, "Breakfast, luv."

[Manwhoisthisman]

I'll take a seat and wait for my dad to come upstairs.

[madtinker]

Your mothers sits while your father clumps up the stairs. He greets you heartily, eyeing you carefully before sitting down.

There's porridge and fresh fruit. From up the hill, you hear the cathedral bells welcome the morning.

I start eating but part of the way through appear to zone out with my spoon in my mouth, as surface emotions from mom and dad start to creep into my head.

(OOC: Yay, I choose empathy!)

OOC: How fortuitous.

Your mother is curious, but mostly worried.

Your father is relieved and hopeful.

[Manwhoisthisman]

I take the spoon out of my mouth and ask, "What's wrong mom?"

OOC: I should point out that mom and dad would probably have mentally heard a "chime" noise when the power was manifest. Have you read up on psionic displays?

[madtinker]

She picks at her food for a moment, and then gives in.

"Well, I heard you come in late last night. It woke me up. I didn't know where you had gone, and that worried me."

OOC: i'll have to give that a read, thanks.

[Manwhoisthisman]

"I'm sorry to have worried you. I heard what sounded like a bugle and went to see what it was, but it was just some grazing beasts outside the wall."

[madtinker]

"With the hunters? Are you sure they're the sort you want to spend all your time with?"

[Manwhoisthisman]

"I'm sure they're not -- that is why I'm still planning to go see Father Feodor today."

[madtinker]

Her face visibly relaxes.

"Oh good. Its just dangerous, leaving the palisade all the time. I think they can manage without you. You're so smart, you can do better than being a hunter."

[Manwhoisthisman]

I nod. "I can do better. Though it wouldn't be bad for them to have someone help with the thinking on occasion," I add with a grin.

[madtinker]

"I Suppose you're right. Somebody has to take care of Sam."

[Manwhoisthisman]

I chuckle, "Yes, that's true. Though for now, I think I ought to go see Father Feodor."
