Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
That happens so often in Borderlands 1 that characters in game complain about it. Been a long time since I played the first, since the good parts were the DLCs that took place after the main plot, which wasn't exactly a good thing.
I'm just glad it's getting a follow-up. When I was playing through Riptide and my Sam B started having his Hulk moments, I really started wanting to know what happens next with the mutation plague... and the major plot threads from the first game that were purposely untouched in Riptide.
I just hope the new one does something about my major complaints, like how my favorite weapon type in all of Riptide (staff) only dropped for me twice in the 10+ hours I put into the game, both of them green quality."I don't approve of society, so I try not to participate in it."

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
And random tags added by Steam users *can* be trusted? Also, is there any way to remove a tag once added? A game might be released in a "broken" state and later become perfectly playable, but if that "broken" tag remains on it then it's an unfair assessment of the game.
Re: Dead Island: If I have a wish for the next Dead Island, it's the same one I have for the next Borderlands: please release a new game, not just a overlarge expansion pack! Apart from the ability to drive boats and the punchy punchy character Riptide didn't have much new, and it was quite a bit shorter than the first game too. Overall, if I were to sit down and replay a Dead Island game, I'd be more likely to replay the first one than Riptide.Last edited by factotum; 2014-02-14 at 02:50 AM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
You might be hurt to learn that it's a MOBA, then.
But it does some really neat stuff. For example:
- The main mode, Scavenger, does not have lanes. Instead, it plays more like Dominion, but instead of letting points generate as you capture targets, you gather supplies that are dropped when you initially capture flags (as well as the gradual bleed of supplies). You deliver those to your truck (1500 supply crates total) to win.
- There are no minions. Instead, mobs (zombies) are hostile to everyone. In addition to this, serious threats, like Floaters and Shriekers (yeah, they're back) can show up with mobs, frequently appearing while capturing flags.
- It's 4v4v4 instead of 5v5. The first team to win will automatically leave upon winning, leaving the remaining teams to duke it out for scraps. You win more for getting first place in Scavenger.

Hawken is on steam and appears to be free but does anyone know how I actually download it as there is no apparent download button unless I am being really, really stupid?

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
I don't think you can. I looked into it earlier and so far it seems you can only get access to the game thru the bundle package, with the f2p option coming later.
Edit: from the hawken site faq
WHEN CAN I PLAY THE GAME ON STEAM?
Everyone who created a HAWKEN account prior to February 4th has been sent a product code that can be used to download and play the game on Steam. New users can gain access by purchasing a bundle starting Friday, February 14th.Last edited by Antonok; 2014-02-14 at 04:16 PM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
Pretty much. If it's cheap enough, it's well worth a play-through. There just isn't a whole lot of replayability.
The game mechanics pretty much consist of "drill downwards, mine minerals, fight monsters, run through the periodic Metroid-style puzzle room, then go back to town and upgrade your stuff."

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
I made sure to check YouTube videos and such. This is all public info.
The zombies are actually a pretty neutral force, and their presence does change up the game. An interesting sidenote is proportions: playable characters are a lot bigger than zombies for the purpose of making them easy to distinguish. On top of that, special zombies are far bigger than everyone else (especially the Ram, who is an absolute titan of a zombie), again for the purpose of making them easy to distinguish.
As for the latter, it makes the Dominion-esque mode a lot more interesting, as one team won't necessarily dominate the other when there are three forces actively against each other.Steam username is Triscuitable.

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
Just as long as there won't be special chat commands to speak only to one other team directly rather than just having to /all, otherwise you may end up with deals being cut to eliminate a specific team first. Of course, that may still happen, but communication for that is either a lot harder (if you cannot use chat for it) or everyone knows about it (if you use an all chat for it).

Picked up Psychonauts from the humble bundle last week and started playing it today. I quickly remembered why I stopped playing it when I had it on my PS2.

Is Hero Siege a good recommendation? Looks like a top-down Rogue Legacy, so I'm intrigued. Also on sale.
Hmm...sounds more like a defense game than an action/adventure game.Last edited by Pendulous; 2014-02-17 at 12:51 AM.

Guns of Icarus Online is 75% off at the moment, and as it's an awesome game I picked up a few copies. Anyone want one?

The thing about Guns of Icarus is that it's very newbie-unfriendly. Definitely play with someone who has knowledge of the game, or you won't succeed initially.

Re: [Steam] Thread XXXIII: The only winning move is not to play
So I just finished Our Darker Purpose. "Finished", that is. I still have lore to hunt for, story to piece together, hard mode, achievements/upgrades to collect, bosses to see, items I haven't found yet... I'll be at this a while, and I'm fine with that.
If you think you can stomach a difficult game of this type at all, please pick ODP up. This is a masterpiece that's only picking up more improvements with time, and I would say the first part of that for the writing alone.
