Re: Steven Universe
Pretty excited that Sworn to the Sword is being aired first. That episode just sounds so crazy, to the point where I could be setting myself up for a letdown. I mean, at this point, I basically just have the episode mentally listed as the greatest thing of all time, and that's a hard thing to live up to.

Well, Chille is the name of a commune in France, if that helps with anything.

Re: Steven Universe
That does sound a lot like the kinda thing I'd love, especially if it's pointing less to some high conflict stuff and more to a crazy bottle episode. One unfortunate thing about Steven Universe is that its length makes crazy bottle episodes less sprawling and amazing. Keeping two characters in a room for twelve minutes, or even less with setup time, isn't much compared to doing that for 45 minutes. There're probably a bunch of episodes that'd already qualify, with that in mind, particularly some of the really gem light episodes.

Re: Steven Universe
I think you're going in the wrong direction. Recalling that Steven Universe is a show that is from the perspective of a child, what does the phrase "We Need To Talk?" make you feel?
In my experience at least, hearing that phrase meant I was about to get a serious lesson on important things I may not yet fully understand. So what I'm saying is I think the bulk of this episode will be the Gems realizing, due to previous events in the episode before, that...they have to tell Steven more now. I'd argue this won't be a bottle episode as you suggest, but will instead be as fantastic and wild as possible.

Re: Steven Universe
I'm aware that it usually means something important is going down in conversational form, usually taking the shape of some variety of revelation or change. But, y'know, really dig a good bottle episode. Oftentimes, they're the way I measure a show, by the way things look when the world holds still. Honestly, I'd probably expect Sworn to be more bottlish than We Need to Talk, even if there's likely to be some looming threat to test something or another, but still, there's at least a decent chance.

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but "chill-ted" sounds a lot like "jilted".

Re: Steven Universe
Apparently, "We Need to Talk" is about Greg talking to Steven and Connie about gem fusion. So not gem war stuff but still pretty exciting.

Re: Steven Universe
They just posted a spoiler video for Sworn to the Sword hereabouts, along with some interview stuff. Video's missing sound, but I'm oddly digging it anyway. From the few words I'm able to make out, it seems to be the exact kinda thing I thought it would be. Interview's cool too, cause apparently Greg and Rose are getting a duet at some point.

Re: Steven Universe
Holy crap, that was awesome. Loved every part of it, I think.
Spoiler: Stuff that I lovedThat song was great, and Connie becoming even more awesome was great, and Steven apparently having an at-will shield was great, and more Rose/Pearl detail work was great, and Connie apparently has a great singing voice. Just great great great all the time. I had crazy expectations, and they were lived up to like crazy. Man, this frigging show.
Edit: Also, yeah, that theme song. Dunno how I feel about the change yet, but it seems like the kinda thing I could get into. I guess this is more officially season two now, or something.Last edited by eggynack; 2015-06-15 at 05:34 PM.

Re: Steven Universe
Holy ****.
Spoiler
Yo so Connie as a sword fighter is great, and their unity together is fantastic. Seeing more of what Pearl did as a youngin' to help Rose was really awesome and really depressing, especially considering Pearl's mentality. And that ending...jeez.

Re: Steven Universe
I must say it's nice to see Steven use his bubble offensively, and acknowledge that yes, they'll need to get into fights and risk their lives in the process.
If this episode had shown up months ago I'd probably have felt a whole lot better about the show.

Re: Steven Universe
Yes. Especially...
Spoiler: Oh, just spoiler the whole thing. I'm not sure what everyone has seen of the showthe line where Connie admits to having a short lifespan for being human, but not caring:
Deep down, I know that I'm just a human. (True)
But I know that I can draw my sword and fight. (But you know that you can draw your sword and fight.)
With my short existence (Good)
I can make a difference!
That just gave me chills. And the shocked expression on Pearl's face when they demonstrated that the abilities of two people can be combined WITHOUT fusion. So just wait until Stevonnie takes up Rose's sword and leads them all into some epic confrontation.

Re: Steven Universe
My understanding, taken from the interview and the show, is that Steven wasn't really a part of the team, and now he pretty much is after The Return. I think his past level of competence makes sense in that context, though I would expect this current level of competence to persist, albeit with those missteps one would expect to arise as the central conflict in an episode of a TV show. Separately, the AV club review claimed that this was likely the best song in the series, and I dunno how inclined I am to disagree. Either way, I'm glad this is the kinda show where they make episodes and songs that I think they'll never top, and then make others that prove me wrong.

Re: Steven Universe
Oh also, before I forget. That line with the seagulls at the start is such a blatant "this will get callbacked too in the future" that I ABSOLUTELY love it.

Re: Steven Universe
Hulu ends at "Alone Together"
I mean these new episodes will be added soon right?
I mean the last one on the list is from January, so they're due for an update right?
Right?

Re: Steven Universe
On the new episode, it was pretty good, but not great. I liked it more than the other Ronaldo episodes, because the focus was mostly on not-Ronaldo characters, but it didn't feel like it went much of anywhere. It does seem that some of the concerns about apathetic townsfolk were addressed, even if they weren't necessarily fully resolved, so that's neat.
