    actions:
-(diplo) Send a delegation to meet the militants at their camps in Gunung to discover their intentions and possibly agree to diplomatic relations of some sort. ( if necessary this is a dip 5 stabilising action)
-(diplo) Arrange a temporary reorganization of food distribution throughout the lands Under Gunung control to compensate for the food shortage, Fish from P1 will be the main foodstuff in Gunung for a while it seems so no more excess fish will be send to the birthing mountain observers as it is needed internally for now.
Fluff(sorta :p ): Several new recipes for creative cooking with fish are made and spread during this time.

-(Curio) (minor project) Create an internal system of sheriffs and priests whose job it'll be to keep abreast of internal developments among the common folk, It wouldn't do to be surprised by sudden...whatever these militants are again, they will be called the "quinnahualittato" or the "office of Gunung internal intelligence" by foreigners. (1/2)
-(Curio) (minor project) The benefits of Pyronia our neighbour's and ally's standardized metric system have become increasingly obvious over the years it is time for Gunung to implement this system as wel. (1/2)

-(military) In these uncertain times 1000 extra adamantium equipped hoplites can't hurt.

    Round Fourteen: Begin!

Don’t forget to link to any rolls you make for ANY Attribute checks, plus rolls for rulers you will start using at the start of next round. If you want a new ruler in the next round, you must state so in your action post for this round and link to their rolls. Any increases from actions for this round are counted for the ruler you start your next round with (because it’s handier to account for by the co-GM), which may or may not be your current ruler.

    Good luck!

    Lucky!
    +1 Luck for…
    …Aedilred!
    …Zap Dynamic!
…Elemental! (three-way tie broken by coin toss)

And another +1 Luck for Aedilred!

    Growth!
The sun has gotten a 140% disapproval rating.

    Investigate!
The Fellows have made a breakthrough in their ongoing investigation into that Qarimosi Killings! They discovered that the size of weapon, claws or teeth used must be at least a foot long and both prongs (which they have begun calling ‘teeth’ as it appears somewhat vampiric in nature) are as thick as a thumb and set apart from one another as wide as a man’s jaw.

Guilder finds out that the islands 200 miles off their coast are called the Florin Isles by the natives. Officially they aren’t part of Guilder, though many of its people come to Guilder to seek their fortune.

The Dellevilytes of Selyra have found that abyssium is terribly toxic when ingested, though it doesn’t seem to both rhinos much. One man tinkered with it in his floating thatch house on the southern inner sea, and he promptly sank to the depths.

The Pryonic peoples are making fine progresses! Yeeesss.

    Explore!
All results of exploration shall be unveiled at the beginning of Round 15.

    Colonize!
The Priory of Ascension has begun to colonize Minotron! Or whatever is its actual name, according to their records.

    Claim!
Wenyaveuk leadership has abandoned their people. According to Bekya, wife to Lord Liam of Lyradis, this means he is now Chieftain of the Na’nuk. Valineth Varinel also rises up with the claim that the people of the Heartwaste are the sixth tribe of Wenyaveuk, and thus belong with its people. Who has the stronger claim?

Felitora has been claimed by High Priestess Fabula! The Sycians and Felitorans rejoice! Within two days, a theater is built in the Felitoran capital with a Tarcbjorn double-play called Journey Into The Depths and the Northernmost Cold. Curiously, it does not end with a banana farm.

Jarrland doesn’t have a claim to Vennland… does it?

    Convert!
Raaneka and Ayava now contain more followers of Radurja!

Bor-Teire now contains a majority of Lord of Fire worshippers!

    War!
As 24000 Salterri troops, 7000 Ignato troops and 5000 Hurosha troops invade Cassia, the Bordeusi troops retreat from the peninsula. Some Salterri soldiers chase after them, killing 1000 Bordeusi troops.

3000 Ashenian troops march into Lacertia! The battle is one most gruesome, as all Lacertian troops are slaughtered, but only 1000 Ashenians come away with their lives. The Ashenian Queen dies by a lizardfolk javelin through her throat.

4000 Hurosha troops march into Tekorva! The letters spread from Kokuei’s writing have reached the rebels, but only one of their commanders has lifted his banners and returned in peace to the capital. The battle takes place in muddy fields where once lay fresh snow, and 3000 goblins and 1000 Kasumori find their end in the slosh, along with 2000 of their enemies. The remaining 1000 march through Zargrim to attack Earthhome directly under command of General Suisei Five-Eyes. Eienguard Nyllana manages to escape the battlefield before falling like so many of her men, bearing wounds within her wings.

The Guilder troops that marched into Sah’raa were defeated. It is unknown how many were slain. (Roll is missing.)

2000 Razdissi troops fight against hordes of Guilderenes and Lyradisians. In the chaos, hundreds of civilians and their children find their deaths as the militants and the Razdissi engage one another. 4000 of the militants lay dead afterwards, as well as nearly all Razdissi, a few returning home with the visions still in their minds.

    Terror!
The Pusdeath has been entirely wiped out! Apparently.

The droughts continue, but have been miraculously lifted from Bordeux, Gunung, Pryonia, Calorum, Zargrim, Guilder and Lyradis. Kasumor still suffers, but alleviates the hunger with their underground food supplies of squid; Raaneka does similar with Ayavan’s mushrooms. Hrathan-Tuor loses 3000 population. Elbaraz loses 1000 population. Wenyavuk gains 2000 population.

Heaven’s Blade has been blasted through! The firebursts, chased now to an origin of one of the peaks of the Blazing Mountain, soar through the giant holed standing stones of Calorum into the mountain—once every few weeks at first during summer, with increasing rapidity as the sun enlarged, until it recently spewed fire thrice daily. The firebursts strike into the heart of Cassia, shaking the land and setting it ablaze. The quakes and fires kill 1000 Hurosha soldiers and their mounts, 2000 Ignato troops and 6000 Salterri men.

Mere weeks after the Salterri and their allies have retreated from Cassia with haste reports come in from Solus and the Jeweled Cities’ sailors that in the broken land thousands of soldiers are amassing.

The Woodwind and Hrathanesse militant camps have been found largely empty, as they move to gather in Calorum. It seems they no longer wish to reside in godless lands when they can go forth and smite the blight of sin from the land and lead in an age of gentle light. Some of lesser conviction end up staying after contact with the diplomats.

In Calorum, the delegation to the militant camps does not return. Their faith in the Lord is stronger than their faith in their High Priestess. The disappearance of the famine, however, causes some of the peaceful to return to their farms and cows.

Progress in the Qarimosi Killings investigation! Terrible, terrible progress! On a stormy night, Pahale Adite heard noise coming from his half-sister’s Chathi Adite’s room. There, he found her butchered, her killer standing still over her. He fought the monster, which slashed him across the chest before he pushed him out of a window, from which he fell. A corpse was never found, and Pahale was struck with infection and fever soon after. In his fevered dreams, he can be heard to murmur sometimes: ‘warned me, warned us… glass hills…’

Some Guilderenes return home with their schematics after talking with Humperdink, but the grand majority has continued to the Blazing Temple. Many have not even deigned to speak with him, calling him the Many-Faced Heathen on account of allowing many different faiths into Guilder without regard for the people who have lived there for ages.

From Calorum, an army of 6000 militants marches upon Kasumor! From Pryonia, 6000 march down as well! “We shall water the earth red—if their hubris hasn’t coloured it black!

In Sulvan's Fury, the ground is cracking open! The militants who have moved in have carved runes and planted spears with banners throughout the land in a circle with a point running towards the newly birthed volcano, which has begun to erupt violently! It spews its fire and rock across Sulvan's Fury, Bordeux and Ashenia as the rumblings of a monster can be heard coming from below through the cracks.

In Gunung, volcanic activity has never been higher! Lava flows are constant and threaten cities and the southern border!

    Current Map!

Region 67 has been reserved by InfamousPotato. Regions 48 and 69 have been un-reserved and are open for the taking.

    Other!
Sycia has been extra cold this year. The palace feels especially chilled for some reason.

In Calorum a young blacksmith has forged himself a special breastplate and sword that both appear to be magnetic. He is currently trying to train to fight properly with the damn things.

A UFO has crashed in Crima, looking suspiciously much like a hovercraft.

Goblins have said that the Dead Gate trembled when it was opened and breathed a foul-smelling sigh of a relief.

The Blazing Temple's mountaintop can be seen continually lit from its border countries, and in Lyradis and Guilder it has been found that the rock and stone beside the roads toward the mountain have been carved with runes.

Spoiler: How Do You Solve a Problem Like Millie?
    Show

"The law is clear," Pendred Isling said, sounding pained. "The king must be a follower of the Lord of Fire."

"We don't know that he isn't," Edwyrd offered. "And in any case he's not the heir."

"Not the immediate heir, but he still stands in line to inherit. King Athelmark of blessed memory died younger than expected, and..." the Lord Chancellor left the sentence unfinished.

The king had summoned his closest advisors: immediate family, the Great Clan chieftains, Pendred and Marrik. Alfwigg, the man under discussion, had been banished in disgrace until a solution could be found. But he was no closer to a solution.

"The law could be changed," the Earl of Dunholm muttered. "It is within the power of the king and this council."

Lord Admiral Villem sounded almost offended. "Imagine how it would look for the king to repeal a key provision of the Great Charter within a few months of coming to the throne."

Alfwyr didn't know who he could listen to. Everyone in the room had a bias one way or another. The Horwiks and Tempest would favour cutting Wigg out of the succession to help ensure the succession of their own branch. The Sunders would feel the same way about Radber. The Dunnems would argue to keep him in for the same reason. The Islings were likely torn between moving a step closer to the throne themselves and their sympathy for the foreign Ascension cult to which Wigg had apparently converted.

"We don't even know if the rumours are true," Dunholm continued. "The girl seems pleasant enough, she's of Jarr blood, he's not married to her, he might not have converted..."

The silence that greeted his words was telling. Everybody knew it was possible the rumours of Wigg's involvement with Matriarch Militae were false. It seemed that nobody believed they were.

"There is something else to consider," Mere said, apparently trying to sound unbiased. "If Alfwigg is removed, and his descendants along with him the claim would pass to the descendants of Celwyrr, and thus to Lyradis."

"The king has another son on the way," Lord Camberton said. "And this body is empowered to reject a foreign king if necessary." Mere shrugged, but a gravelly voice took up the point.

"The king has a child on the way," said the Duke of Sunder, his first contribution to the conversation. "It may be a girl, and even if so, an infant. If we are concerned that Athelmere may predecease Alfwigg, then the king's child offers the same problems. A child king? We may have the authority to reject a Lyradian ruler, but they have a lot of soldiers."

"Then we will meet them on the field!" Camberton bellowed.

"And we will die," the Duke replied, calmly. "Lyradis is far larger than us, and we don't know if we can rely on Imperial support."

"The Qzare would protect us," Mere protested.

"He would wish to," Sunder conceded, "but he is pressed on all sides, and the losses from Hrathan-Tuor bit deep. If Lyradis attacked, we might find ourselves fighting alone."

"So we keep a successor in breach of the Great Charter in place as an insurance policy?" Villem asked. "Is that really what you're suggesting?"

"Or we cut Celwyrr out of the succession too," Edwyrd said, drily.

"Enough," the king said, quietly. "You have all made good points, but I cannot disinherit both my own children, one of whom is entirely blameless - and the other may yet be - even for the good of the realm."

"So we are faced with the prospect of an Ascension king?" Villem asked.

The king shook his head. "I am not proposing that action be delayed indefinitely. But as the Duke of Sunder has reminded us, the situation a year from now could be very different. I might have a second son. If that is the case, then once he is of age, removing Alfwigg from the succession would still leave a strong heir."

"If the child lives." Was the Earl of Isling looking towards Tempest? Perhaps he had a point if so. A young son for the king might preclude Atheldynn's succession altogether. It was unlikely Alfwyr himself would see his son live to come of age, and disposing of a young boy was probably well within her capabilities. Was she really so ruthless? Would Mere tolerate it? He shook his head, trying to clear it. Was this what it was like for kings? This constant paranoia, suspicion even of closest family? Tempest was like a niece to him, and here he was considering her murdering his unborn son.

He stood, ending the discussion. "No changes will be made to the succession today," he said. "We will reconvene in a year when more facts are known. That is my final word on the matter for now."

Weak, he thought. Indecisive. He should be dictating, not dithering. What must they think of him? A caretaker king, a shadow of his brother, a man promoted beyond his abilities. Perhaps the throne should have passed straight to Mere after all. But Athelmark had trusted him, had never questioned his position as his heir. He must have seen something in Alfwyr that he couldn't see himself.

A year, then. He'd bought himself a year to decide whether to disinherit his children. Perhaps the decision would be taken out of his hands. Anything could happen in a year.

The thought came almost as a relief.

Spoiler: The Rashness of King Alfwyr
    Show
The crowd was unhappy. They had come here to see justice, and if at all possible some entertainment. When trial by combat had been requested, they thought that's what they were going to see.

Then Marrik had stepped forward to fight for the king, and the mood had turned sour. Marrik was a great fighter, and the condemned man almost undoubtedly not, and that was precisely the problem. Nobody wanted to see an execution; they wanted a duel.

The man was undoubtedly guilty. He hadn't even denied the charge of treason. In a trial by jury or by judge there could be no doubt about the verdict, which was surely why he'd requested trial by combat despite looking like he barely knew one end of a sword from the other. And his crime was heinous.

This was precisely the sort of thing Alfwyr and his brother had been worried about when Mere had first appeared with the islander girl, although Athelmark had been preoccupied with the death of his daughter, and as Villem had pointed out, the Grants could hardly be said to be less prestigious in international circles than the Jarrow themselves.

So they had given the girl a chance and she had won them over almost immediately, proving to be engaging, brilliant and beautiful. With her alongside him, Mere had grown from a nervous, slightly shy boy to the man he was today. Far from damaging the prestige of the royal family, she'd been an invaluable asset.

    Until now.

Alfwyr had no idea whether the traitor's allegations of infidelity were true, although even if they were, if the boy wasn't Mere's he would have been frankly astonished. Given the amount of time Mere seemed to let his wife out of his sight, for her to have conducted any sort of affair would frankly have been a triumph of organisation. But she was a member of the peerage and the royal family. Slander against her was treason and needed to be met with the strictest penalties regardless.

She was here now. Alfwyr doubted that Tempest Grant could – or would – ever be described as demure, but she for once gave the impression of sobriety, watching the scene unfold impassively, holding Mere's hand. She looked like she was at least taking things seriously.

Dacari had wisely absented herself: a small mercy, given that he had no doubt allegations of her infidelity were true, not that her husband seemed to care. But then Dacari wasn't the mother of the future king, and such a scandal was merely an embarrassment, not an overt threat to the whole establishment.

Marrik was looking up at Alfwyr, in mute enquiry as to the course of action to take. He had been proven right, too: he'd warned the literacy programme and the press would lead to trouble, and here they were. He hadn't said, or even suggested, anything along the lines of “I told you so”, but Alfwyr heard it all the same.

Why did something like this have to happen now, he thought. Athelmark would have known exactly how to deal with this. But then, perhaps that was why it had happened now, rather than previously. The old king had had no doubts about Alfwyr's own ability to rule, given his periods of regency. But Alfwyr had soon learned there was all the difference in the world between regency and reigning. The crown made for his brother sat awkwardly on his head. No longer could he put things off and wait for the “real king” to sort them out when he returned. Athelmark was gone.

Some treasonous little swine had even started saying Alfwyr had sponsored the rumours about Tempest and Dacari himself to discredit his nephews and clear the way for his son. He'd be judged by that standard now. If he called Marrik off and let someone less renowned fight, they'd take that as a tacit admission of belief in the rumours, scarcely better than a pardon. If he let Marrik kill the man, they'd say he was trying to silence him.

He could let Athelmere fight; he'd no doubt take great pleasure in hacking the man to bloody chunks. He was sure Tempest herself would gladly carve him to ribbons. But letting either of the couple duel the man would send a signal that he was leaving them to fend for themselves. God damn it.

He didn't know how long he'd been sitting there before he came to his decision, and stood, holding out his hands to quiet the crowd.

Janwyn Sarrey has not denied his treason. He has requested trial by combat because he knows he cannot defend his actions with words, although he was happy to use those same words as weapons against the crown. His words were crimes of the worst kind, aimed at injuring the heir to the throne, the institution of the crown, and the very future of the kingdom. We are not afraid of cowards like Janwyn Sarrey!” The crowd were silent now, waiting to see where he was going.

And to prove that we are not afraid, I shall fight him myself.”

Marrik stepped backwards, as if struck a body blow. Athelmere looked appalled. Within seconds, he and Alfwigg were both on their feet, shouting, pleading for the chance to fight themselves. But, as the king descended the steps to the combat field, the decree had been made and it could not now be countermanded.

Alfwyr had led armies in his youth, had fought in the vanguard under his brother's standard alongside men like Wiltor Sunder and Ellyn Rigged. He had defeated Offred Isling in single combat, had stood alone over his uncle's body fending off a horde of howling Cambras. Whatever had happened since, he had grown up a warrior. The battleaxe went into his hands like it belonged there.

At the first clash of weapons, the crowd erupted again. The mood had turned utterly. This was no longer a callous execution, a silencing of a man who dared speak his mind. This was the king – their king – fighting for truth, for justice, for the honour of his family.

The noise was deafening. For the first time, he felt the approbation of his people he had desired his whole life. This must have been what it had been like for Athelmark all the time.

Sarrey was better than he'd expected, and Alfwyr was over sixty years old. Where experience counted for much, the traitor was fighting for his life. A lucky thrust sliced across Alfwyr's shoulder. A desperate slash cut open the king's chest. But this was Alfwyr's moment, and no Sarrey whelp was going to stop him today.

His axe went into the traitor's chest, and suddenly Sarrey was staggering backwards, mouth bubbling with blood, the sword dropping from his hand.

Alfwyr hauled the axe free, took a step back, and then hit him again with as much strength as he could muster. Then a third time. It was over. The crowd were roaring.

He held up the bloody axe. “So ever for traitors!

He fell to one knee, trying to hold himself upright with the axe. Even as they ran out to carry him from the field, the cheers were all he could hear.

    397

King Alfwyr has abdicated the throne! He is not expected to survive his injuries but has declared he will not re-assume the throne and it shall pass to his nephew, the atheling. Preparations are being made for the coronation of King Athelmere and Queen Tempest. May their reign bring prosperity to the realm. Let us pray for the recovery of King Alfwyr that he might continue to advise the new king.

    News and Rumours
    • A son, Alfmark, has been born to King Alfwyr of his new wife Adylla.
    • Twin girls have been born to Lady Grant, named Ambryn and Eirwynn.
    • It is rumoured the king's son Alfwigg is conducting an affair with Matriarch Militae and has converted to the Church of Ascension.
    • The residence of Prince Edwyrd and Princess Dacari has become famous for the debauchery that allegedly takes place there. A Guilder merchant has purchased an overlooking property and is charging for entry.
    • A daughter, Dacaryn, has been born to Princess Dacari and, one hopes, Prince Edwyrd.

    Spoiler: Bereginian Mercenaries
    Show
When the Bereginian mercenaries first arrived in Woodwind no one quite knew what to expect. They had been granted a charter from the Celerese government and permission from the Triumvirate to set up companies in Woodwind which allowed for the recruiting of local Bereginians from Woodwind and Nyroth but neither the Bereginians nor the Humans of Woodwind knew what that would mean. For a few months the small foreign Bereginian folk were only seen around Water's Watch buying supplies and disappearing into the stretch of buildings in Little Beregine that had been granted to them for use for their various companies. Then, five months to the day the companies opened up to the public and the mercenaries who had remained so secluded began advertising services and running recruitment drives amongst the locals. The companies quickly found a niche within the community becoming a force of Bereginian law and order, restoring some traditions of the tribes with their tribally based companies, and becoming a hot spot for the young hot shot Bereginian locals to try their hand at joining a company. Water's Watch officials watched with a wary eye as the Bereginian Mercenaries became a staple within Little Beregine and when requests from the companies to be allowed to set up shop in Emerald City came in they passed the news up with warnings of too much influence.

Despite their warnings the request was met and 10 months after their arrival there were Bereginian mercenaries set up in Emerald City. Bereginians from Nyroth with an eye for adventure went to their neighboring southern province and enlisted with the companies there, even a few faefolk distant blooded nobles who had failed in becoming Dusk Knights ventured south and joined the Bereginian Mercenary groups adding to the evolving composition which, while still very much primarily Bereginian, was beginning to accept more and more outsiders. As time has gone on these companies have swelled into quasi political entities on the city level, commanding much respect and clout among the Bereginian locals and pioneering an embracing of cultural roots alongside a pragmatism of finding niches of work within their new societies. Despite concerns by city officials it is believed that for now the Bereginian Mercenary groups are largely helping keep the Bereginians happy and employed and the companies provide much needed supplementary services to various important political and economic forces and so, for now, they're looked upon favorably by the majority of those in charge.

    Spoiler: Triumviral School System
    Show
The recent rising threat of militants coupled with an embarrassingly large number of illiterate citizens amidst the Triumviral Provinces when compared to the nations such as Crima or Jarrland has prompted the Triumvirate to pursue efforts similar to those nations though with an emphasis on practicality and speed over the very acute workings of the great educational works. This effort has been aided by the fast reproduction of texts afforded to the Triumviral Provinces by the Jarrland Printing Press. Despite their hastened speed and smaller size the school systems are already in their beginning stages proving their value as literacy and basic mathematical knowledge increase throughout the lands.

While some of the more rural citizens have opted out of attendance or elected to only send their children during the lulling months of harvest the localized population centers of the Triumviral cities seem to be taking to the new programs exceptionally well. Not intended to grant knowledge beyond what is most basically needed these schools are not replacing the centers of higher education such as the Enclave of Existence in Aloren, the University of Severikand in Ashenia, or the Academy of Culture and Prowess in Kasumor the school system will grant the common folk the skills needed to carry out business more efficiently and allow communication through writing.

The Triumviral school system focuses mainly on literacy and mathematics, and the Pyronic Metric system has been adopted by the schools and is the standard measurement to be used and recorded throughout the Triumvirate. Alongside these basic skills time is spent going over the history of the Triumvirate and it's place in the world with heavy patriotic emphasis. This time is largely secondary to the main skills however and is a reflection of the focus on practicality of these schools over broad and deep education which is held to be the domain of the higher learning facilities throughout Telluris. So far the schools have been a success and their slow adoption and role in the rising literate class has seen the number of registered voters increase as more citizens come to understand their rights and better themselves and their positions to qualify for the vote which has lead to an increased presence of campaigning when a Senate chair comes up for election.

I write to you to thank you for traveling with me to your Gates of Salted Earth last year. They were as marvelous as you described and it was a joy and a pleasure to see them in your company. So too was it a pleasure to speak with you at length, though I fear our chatter may have excluded by cousin Amalia I can hope only she was not offended by our incessant conversation. The entire festival was a pleasure to attend and after seeing your great capital I feel it only fair I invite you to see the Triumvirate's own. I know you are a busy man, we both are as befitting our roles, but I hope you might make time to come and see me and my lands as you were so kind as to allow me to see your own. When you last stayed north you were not in position to appreciate that majesty and beauty of the various great works. I would see that corrected if I might be allowed.

I feel I must make up for your years spent in the north as prisoner that I might show you more of it's more beautiful side. I had a planned trip to Celero, a magnificent land ruled by wonderful people and benefited by many great works. It would be a pleasure indeed to travel their with accompaniment if you were so inclined. As always, I understand the needs of state make their demands but I would wish to see you again and finish our conversation in regards to your first experience with the good King Athelmark.

((A single short story this time, as I have had a lot to deal with this week.))

Two large orbs of dim red light peered at me from the shadows.

Shifting uneasily, I resisted the usual feeling of disgust as the Visyknin beside me swayed slightly. Ordering a pair of females in front of him, I peered into his eyes to see they had glazed over completely. Again.

    Damnation!

The red lights moved this way and that quickly before returning to settle on me once more. I hated this. I hated this more than I could ever describe, yet it was necessary. I signalled to the group in charge of the beast before turning away. I heard a triumphant cry as the creature raced away from its captors, its hoofbeats echoing through the tunnels. All too suddenly, the hoofbeats were cut short with a sickening crunching sound. The swiftness and efficiency with which the creature had been executed was at once an admirable feat and a repulsive act. I tried to ignore the deadening silence that ensued, but was instead swallowed by it. Though it was dark, I squeezed my eyes shut and took a few steadying breaths before turning to face those two orbs of light once more. I did not know why the whole thing disturbed me so much, yet it did.

The Haljan females took the Visyknin away as I waited for the signal that it was safe to come forward. It seemed entirely too long before it came, yet when it did I found myself reluctant to move toward those dull red orbs. Though I found my eyesight more than adequate in the dim caverns of most of Halja, the caverns favoured by the beings were pitch black. Unused to such darkness, I carefully inch my way forward toward the dim red lights.

    "Greetings."

By the light of the Orthyknin's Hanseiyoku I could see the remains of his prey. It seemed almost as though it was only sleeping if one ignored the sunken skin and the stillness. Realizing I had been spoken to, I looked toward the Orthyknin and nodded.
I had a task for him...

NOTE - I may not finish it. I had other stuff to write here. Not sure. Depends on how much time I have.

"I know he is our brother, but I cannot make excuses for him any longer. It -"

His sister cut him off, "I don't care what you must do, or about appearances, or even about -"

"It doesn't matter what we want." Vanya said wearily, "It doesn't matter that he is family, that he should be supporting us, instead of whatever it is he thinks he's doing. He has broken one of the highest laws we have."

    "But..." Syuzanna attempted to continue.

Vanya just looked at her. "You know what marriage means. Stop trying to defend him. Just go, I have important things I should be doing."

    Syuzanna left.

'Things like drawing up arrest warrants for a member of the royal family' Vanya sighed and retired to his private rooms, leaving his work for later.

A month later, Vanya's private rooms

Vanya was re-reading a missive that had arrived several days ago. It had been sent by officers tasked with tracking down and bringing in Artem.

The suspect had been traced to a small eastern frontier settlement, it may as well have been in Ashenia. When we arrived the suspect was not present. It seems he was last seen speaking with several unsavoury types. Witness descriptions vary and are somewhat sketchy but it seems they may not have been Niskans.
All attempts at gaining more information as to the suspects whereabouts have failed.

High Prince Vanya Nisakovich was in the midst of a private discussion with Branimir Korošec, the son of an important noble family. (his not-nephew)
They had made pleasant small talk and observed all the required pleasantries before getting to the actual details.

"Branimir, at the request of your mother, Lady Korošec, I have arranged for you an officers commission in the home guard. It is, probably not what you were expecting."

"I understand why things have to be this way. A commission is more than I was expecting, especially given the circumstances."

They talked for several more minutes, both men being careful not to mention Artem - Artem having disappeared some months ago in suspicious circumstances.

    [396, Kalpraz, Razdis]
The Mormaer and his brothers were dead, all in a single night. The surgeons and orderlies spoke not of what happened, but Razkai's sickness had grown worse, causing him to be visited by his brothers. Official sources spoke of a fast-acting contagion, or Awl Bug attack, but the common clansdwarves muttered of magic and sorcery. Vali was prince no longer.

[The same year, The Mormaer's Hall, Razdis]
"I am Mormaer, son of stone and scion of steel. The clans are mine, the dwarves are mine, and the very rocks themselves are mine."
Vali intoned the ceremonial oath of the Mormaer, and rose off his knees.
The young Red Rock priest nodded nervously.
"The clans accept you, the dwarves are your family, and the very rocks themselves support you."
Subdued exuberance filled the hall, and the new Mormaer placed the great crown of Razdis upon his coal-black locks.
"I am Vali son of Razkai son of Razkai! I. Am. Mormaer!"
The scene was different to the last coronation; all dwarves present wore white robes of mourning, a custom borrowed from Tekorva. Two thousand dwarves had been slain or dispersed at the Blazing Mountain, and the last Mormaer was dead. Vali turned abruptly towards his subjects.
"Now, to business. Enemies assail Razdis from both within and without. We need more troops, and we need them now. I'll take Razdissi, Elbarazi, Eyrecradians, Sulvans, shist, I'd take goblins if they could march straight and speak common. We need an army, clad in Mithril and armed with death. The heroes of the first battle of Blazing Mountain are to be rewarded; a new clan, Scorched Earth is to be created in their honour. Awake Iron!"

    [398, The Mormaer's Hall, Razdis]
Mormaer Vali turned to leave; his raiment shined with Mithril and his great Domhain-wood bow was in his grasp. He was to lead the force to the north. The Blazing Temple was still occupied by strange forces, and Razdis needed to drive them forth. Behind Vali waited his orc wife; he had five children now; Princess Cogen, his firstborn daughter and heir and Freki, his second child, we joined in quick succession by Prince Ain, Prince Magni and Prince Olsung. The three babies were hung in slings, and to any eye but a parent's would look… not entirely attractive. Orc and Razdissi genes produced tall and wiry children with thick Razdissi hair, grey skin and short fangs. The hall was lit with luminescent chalk, as it had been when the great walls were built. Tunnels for the new Hovertrains were to be constructed, dug through solid limestone with Mithril picks.

Six figures slipped quetly over the rail of the Coral Skipper. The ship floated quietly at anchor. Most of the ships crew were within the confines of the city itself, celebrating the turn of the century. Amber and Iaz had retired to their cabin early, preferring a more private celebration. Content in their hometown harbor, they hadn’t even bothered with a deck watch.
Quietly and with create cohesion, the group slipped across the deck and to the cabin. One quickly smeared grease along the running edges of the sliding door; they were professionals. It opened with barely a whisper, and the group was inside.

Four people slept in a tangle on a large, unmade bed. Amber and Iaz had entertained guests that night. That was hardly unexpected. The woman was taken first. A white reumal man carefully wrapped the killing cloth around her neck. Then, with sudden violent force, he jerked back, pulling it tight. His other hand covered her mouth. A second man grabbed her arms as she awoke, to stop her flailing. Quickly, she was pulled from the bed. The pair held her immobile until she stopped moving, then for a short time longer just to be sure. Her companion was next, dispatched in a similar fashion.

Then the group split into two teams. One reumal man and two arm holders each. Iaz and Amber had only a moment of sleepy diorientation to sit up. A black reumal flashed, the only black Reumal known. The man’s skill was evident as it looped around the Regina’s throat . A quick jerk and a twist of his body, and her neck broke. The arm holders proved unneeded. Iaz was more of a struggle, but three against one soon brought his struggles to an end.

Night sailing was always dangerous. Rocks and reefs, sharks and barracudas, there were ten thousand ways to die each day, as the saying goes. Still, Indigo Summers enjoyed the peace. He remembered sailing with his mother Mary Ann on quiet nights. She had a love for creatures that bordered on the supernatural.
He docked his catamaran at the small pier by his isolated cabana and busied himself securing it for the night. Engrossed in his task, he did not notice the small streams of bubbles coming from dark shapes under the water. Not until it was too late.

Spoiler: December 31, 399, City of Aarow, Tar
    Show

Hawkeye rested quietly in his rented rooms in the city of Aarow. He had just finished negotiating with Niskovians. It had been a gamble, since the trade routes had to flow across Ashenian territory, and they were hardly friendly. Still, the Regina had seen value in cultivating allies on the flanks of the Bitch Princess’s territory. His adopted father had sent him off on his first official mission.
Being in Tar had its share of challenges. He was deformed, largely deaf since birth. Quill culture had cast him out, only to be rescued by Indigo. Now back in his ‘native’ land, the stares and muttered comments were hard to deal with. “Ungrateful bastards” he thought to himself. “This city would be nothing more than a bunch of mud huts without us Islanders.”
The trio of Deceivers took secret delight in their assignment. Dispatching one of the deformed was almost as great an honor as protecting the Blackadder from outsiders. Perhaps they were too eager. Perhaps Hawkeye’s heightened sense of touch warned him to their stealthy footsteps. He was rolling to one side as the came for him, quick as a snake. His hand came up, snagging the yellow reumal as it was ptiched across his neck. He used his momentum to tear it free.
The three assassins were between him and the door, and that was just fine with him. His father made certain he trained with the best combat teachers money could buy. Fear and rage fueled him. His first kick sent the straw mattress up on end and across one assailant. He vaulted onto the bedframe, sending a sideways kick into another one and spinning sidways, avoiding a grab by the third. He managed to retrieve his kukri from the desk as the pair closed in again. He slashed at the duo quickly, to keep them back. They produced long alligator skinning knives from their leg sheaths as they back-peddaled. Grabbing an oil lamp, he hurled it at the third assassin who had just freed himself from the mattress. He ducked and the lamp shattered against the wall dousing him and the straw in flames.
There was a pause for a moment. The duo ignored their companion writhing on the floor, desperate to extinguish himself. For a moment, they hesitated. Hawkeye smiled at that. “Come on, you pin *****. You think your blood is superior? Let's’see what color it is.” The pair charged, one high, one low. Hawkeye dropped to his knees, allowing the first assassin’s attack to pass over him. He caught the second assassins blade in the crook of his arm and twisted. It cut through his sleeve and left a long, shallow cut. But his return cut bruought the kukri down onto the man’s shoulder, severing the tendons at the neck.
The remaining assassin kicked him sending him sprawling across the room and rolling though the lit oil. He followed Hawkeye quickly, intending to finish him. Years of free-running paid off as Hawkeye turned his tumble into a roll, gaining the space needed to avoid the blow. In the few seconds it took to tear off his overshirt, however, the killer was on him again, landing a slashing cut barely turned aside by the off-handed kukri block. A second cut, this one across his head above his ear, bled profusely.
Squaring off again, the two traded a flurry of blows and blocks. This time, it was Hawkeye who came out ahead. He managed to pin the assailants knife arm by dropping his own blade and stepping into the thrust. He kicked and heard the pop of the man’s knee. He followed that by wrenching the and across his body, dislocating the pinned arm.
The fight was over. He checked his wounds. Painful, but not deadly. He grabbed his travel bag and slung it over his shoulder. Seizing the injured assassin by the hair, he dragged him from the burning room and out into the streets. A nearby alley was secluded enough for his purposes. He spoke to the man while donning a special pair of gloves. [b}”See, I never liked your kind. Always certain you knew best. Willing to kill for your living saint. Arrogant and blind, so certain of your cultural superiority and dismissive of others.[/b] He held up the barbed gloves, letting them glisten in the light. ”Let me show you the wonderful things other cultures can teach. Like the Kracken’s embrace.”

    The Royal Council of Raaneka
((Attribute increases last round: Curiosity +2, Luck +1))
((Attribute increases this round: Curiosity +1, Pending))

    Year 396
For the fourth wedding anniversary of Dacari Devdano to Edwyrd Jarrow, may a troupe of the finest Qarimosi musicians travel to Jarrland as a gift for Dacari and her new court. May she never be far from the music of her soul, and may that music be a delight to all the southerners who hear it.

"Four years already!" exclaimed Dacari's sister, Hansi. "It feels like barely a week has passed!"

"That's because you're remembering our time with Haruka," Hansi's wife, Krodhi, said with a wry grin.

    Year 397
The Royal Council Palace has made great progress, thanks to the surpassing work of Bordeux. May the three finest construction guilds in the land continue the work of the Bordeusi, and may the finest vintners pour their skills into the cultivation of the Bordeusi Gardens between the palace and the sea. May it stand for all time as a tribute to the work of our Bordeusi kin, and may it serves as a vision of the rugged beauty of their homelands.

"All this building," Queen Anguri said testily. "War and death rages beyond our borders. Is there no work left for a warrior queen?"

"The Council has conferred, and we have heard your argument." Dezarajacarita rubbed his eyes. "We have determined that these wars are not our own. The Dawn League does not go to war lightly. Nor does its members, my Queen."

    Year 398
In culmination of our trade with Celero, may the Raaneki construction guilds in Bereginia travel to Aldbury Field, to complete the memorial erected at the site of Gareth Serendel's brave protest. May the guildsmen and women work with care and skill, for no memory is worth cherishing more than peace.

"And when they come home," King Krama said, goblet raised, "there shall be such revelry as they have not known for many years. It shall be a fitting welcome! Bright Glory, Dark Wine!"

"For Love of Harmony," repeated the Council in unison.

    Year 399
May all with eyes to see and ears to hear learn of the War Doctrine of Queen Anguri Adite. May plans begin immediately to restructure the Raaneki military. May all excess store of weapons and armor be kept safe in armories throughout Raaneka, to be used by the militia in times of need.

Against the wishes of the Royal Council, Queen Anguri Adite shall travel alone to the land of Calorum, there to seek out and speak with one Greta Cardion Divinorum, the Blazing Avatar. Though the Council disapproves of her actions, may her majesty take the harmony of Heartwine along with her. May her berunda fly swift and sure, and safeguard her from all harm.

"My love," protested King Krama. "You would travel alone? Without your husband?"

"I know the Avatar of old," Anguri replied, adjusting the straps of her berunda's saddle. "But I know too the risk of this journey. Even two traveling together might be too aggressive for these northern foreigners."

    Year 400
Seated upon cushions, gathered around their hearths, the Raaneki waited for the arrival of a new year and a new century. One of the elders in the group, a Qarimosi, gathered his friends close and began to speak.

"It was nearly 15 years ago, when the First Fellowship solved the mystery of the Qarimosi Killings. Listen now, and hear the tale of their daring deeds!"

Two puncture wounds,” Agadhamast muttered as he scrutinized the latest victim. “Twenty four inches across.

Overworld inches?” came the tiny voice of Bisamkhaba at his side.

Underworld,” Agadhamast clarified. “Six standard inches.” He probed his finger into one of the puncture wounds on the small of the victim’s back. Agadhamast was a gnome, and as such he could almost fit his entire hand into the wound. “Odd,” he said, removing his hand. Many things about the surface giants were odd to him.

What is it?” Sir Joradar may have been called “the Loud,” but he could whisper as well as anyone. “Some new clue?” He was restless. Nearly two weeks searching for the killer in the streets and alleys of Melytis, and they had only managed to find more victims. This latest was a young woman. Her first godana, an image of an elephant on her back, was still vibrant in the evening sunlight.

A new clue, yes, perhaps.” Agadhamast tittered with Bisamkabha in their own tongue for a moment. “These puncture wounds are positioned directly over the victim’s liver, or they should be. The wounds penetrate into an empty cavity, filled only with this.” He held his hand up to Sir Joradar’s face, who sniffed and recoiled backward

What is this devilry?” the green-gray slime on the gnome’s fingers was acrid, like flesh charred and spoiled. He would never forget that smell, thanks to the Battle of Hrathan-Tuor. “Her loved ones said she was killed this morning. How could she spoil so quickly?

As I said, odd.” Agadhamast, like so many of his kind, approached situations with a mind that was both cunning and cold. Very little escaped his attention, but even less seemed to evoke any emotion from him. “But a more important question: why does the killer seem to be removing organs from its victims? We have no evidence from those first few murders, but each of the last three victims has been missing an organ.” The Fellows found a missing heart from the first victim they could examine, and the kidneys had been removed from the second. Now this.

At a word from Agadhamast, Ghor and Teja moved over to the corpse and hefted it onto a cart. The victim would rot long before it could reach Ayava for examination, but a band of scholars had recently taken residence in Melytis. With the advantage of suitable conditions, perhaps they could discover anything that remained hidden at the scene.

A harsh whisper came from the rooftop above. Anton Plainswalker may have spent most of his life upon the flat, highland steppe of Qarimos, but he had a natural urge for a vantage point and a knack for acrobatics. “Did you hear that?” he called down. All five of the Fellows below froze, and strained their ears against the evening. The faint and distant cry of a man came floating upon the wind. Somewhere nearby there was a loyal subject of the Council who needed help. Melytis had its share of rough warriors and bold adventurers, but skill in arms and strength of courage did not guarantee a virtuous soul.

Anton dashed away over the rooftops as soon as he located the direction of the cries. “Ancestors,” Sir Joradar cursed under his breath. No one understood teamwork like a Raaneki. Even in Qarimos, there were too many who thought to win glory on their own. Sir Joradar knew Qarimosi hunters were an isolated folk, but it didn’t change his feelings. “After him!” Sir Joradar barked to his comrades. “And stick together!” Ghor and Teja scooped the gnomes up onto their shoulders and they were off.

They wound their way through the the back alleys, senses trained on any sounds of violence nearby. They rounded a corner to find Anton in a small courtyard. He stood next to a modest fountain, hand rested upon the shoulder of a Qarimosi messenger. The young man was doubled over and panting hard.

You have news?” Sir Joradar approached the messenger.

I come,” the messenger stammered, “from Qarta. Alas! Such terrible news…

Sir Joradar grabbed the messenger by the shoulders and looked him in the eyes. “Out with it!

The Queen’s daughter! Only three years old. The killer has struck again!

    Year 396, The First Day

The dream had been the same for weeks now. He stood upon a windswept peak, surrounded by a churning sea of fire and shadow. Terrified, his eyes swept the horizon, but there was nothing but the inferno. It reached towards him, flames contorting into taloned hands, scraping against the naked stone with a keening wail of ravishing hunger. He stared into the heart of the blaze, and saw it fueled by innumerable human figures, all writhing in the unholy heat. The flames rose higher, ever higher, until the edges of his isolated sanctuary began to slough away. His skin sizzled at the fire's approach, and all was lost.

    Until the light.

It came in his last moments, the arrow of a god transfigured into golden light, cutting through the fire like a blade parting silk. The inferno roared in pain, and threw itself against the distant source of the light. The clouds parted at the fire's approach, and he saw...he saw...

Nezetkhamun awoke with a start, his body soaked in sweat. Beside him, First Consort Behenu shifted, but did not awaken. His dreams had been troubled long enough that his consorts had grown used to their aftermath. With a sigh, Nezetkhamun fell back against the pillows of his bed. The dream was a portent, of that he was sure, and there was much yet to do to ensure that Tzalteclan was not swallowed in the fire.

Less than an hour later, the sun rose over the jungle, and Nezetkhamun, Dragon King of the Tzalteca, awakened in truth. As with every day, he made his way to the royal baths, to soak in the steaming waters fed by the hot springs beneath the city. A clap summoned a trio of slaves to tend to him, each one a beautiful young woman chosen from childhood to serve the king directly. Their hair was ebony, their skin walnut, but their most striking feature was the tattoo. Each was marked according to their station, a twining line that passed beneath their eyes and met in a stylized dragon's face on the bridge of their noses. They came with soap and scented oils, and cleansed their king - their god - from the labors of his nightmares. His black hair was slicked back and held in a golden ring, his nails were filed, his teeth cleaned. Finally, the brought forth a loose red robe and draped it over him. Then they departed, for the rest was above the ken of slaves. Nezetkhamun swept from his baths, and entered the repository of his symbols of office. Golden bracers worked in the shape of a dragon's clawed arms, a belt of golden plates inscribed with the names of his predecessors, a sweeping gorget of golden scales studded with rubies, and finally the crown. It was a monstrous thing, golden dragon wings sweeping down to frame his face, the dragon's rearing head rising from his brow, its eyes ruby, the scales of its belly carved jet. The Dragon King did not always indulge in such pomp, favoring the simple diadem that rested on a stand beneath the crown, but today was a special day. The first of the month, the time of counsel with the Twelve. The day he would set the fullness of his plans into motion.

Slipping his feet into gold-inlaid sandals and sweeping a black cape over his shoulders, Nezetkhamun descended the palace steps towards a waiting palanquin. The city of Tzalteclan sprawled before him, a beast of red brick and thatch, and in the light of the dawn it still managed to take his breath away. Here and there towered the buildings of the state, the few deemed important enough for the black granite hewn from the mountains. Beyond the edge of the plateau stretched the orderly dwellings of the agricultural slaves, a strange mirror to the rows of barley cultivated for the city above. Further still, slim fishing boats plied the Bay of Stars, and at the edge of vision he saw the cliffs, and the first step of his vision coming into being. For the entrance to the inlet leading to the sea was an anthill of activity, as granite blocks were hauled into position to construct a pair of towering fortresses to watch over the approach. Nezetkhamun smiled at the sight of them, only to be brought back to reality by a cough at his side. Turning, he saw the wizened form of Khnumberen, and smiled. Each of the old man's cheeks were marked with square tattoos, marking him as a slave of the bureaucracy, yet Nezetkhamun's smile lacked any hint of superiority. Knumberen had faithfully served Nezetkhamun's father, and his father before him, and would have been pronounced mahurat years earlier had he not proven so essential. He returned the smile, before motioning towards the waiting palanquin and its escort.

"Highness, you should not keep the Twelve waiting."

    Nezetkhamun chuckled.

"Of course, old friend. Come, you will ride with me."

    "Of course, Highness."

They walked the rest of the way together. Knumberen kept his eyes down as they passed the escort of Dragon Warriors, as was proper, but rose to give instruction to the palanquin bearers. They too were slaves, their markings circling their throats and continuing down their necks, laborers until the day they died. The day was starting to become hot, but the interior of the palanquin was cool as they began their quick march into the city proper.

    *****

The chambers of the Council of Twelve were not far from the palace, and were found inside the massive complex of the empire's bureaucracy. The place smelled of papyrus and ink, in defiance of the sweet herbs burning in the council chamber, but it was something they all were accustomed to. Nezetkhamun took his traditional seat upon a massive chair of teak and leather, and was followed by the members of the Twelve. They sat around a table as old as the empire itself, a massive stone circle inscribed with the history of the Tzalteca from their forging and continuing into the present. There was still a great deal of stone left untouched, a fact that never failed to remind Nezetkhamun of the crushing weight of history. Still, it was a thought for another time, and he began the meeting with a sureness worthy of a living god.

"Honored council, how fares our kingdom?"

The first to stand was Dagi, most respected priest of the Dragon King.

"Holiness, the people's hearts are content. They know your will guides them and your strength protects them. We are faithful."

Nezetkhamun nodded, but said nothing. The next to stand was Inaros, general of the armies of the Tzalteca.

"Highness, our forces stand ready to defend this city. Every week they bring fresh slaves from the barbaric jungles, to bask in the glory of your benevolence. We are at peace."

Nezetkhamun nodded, but said nothing. The last to stand was Pageti, the city's most respected moneylender.

"Magnificence, construction of the Great Gate is proceeding as expected. There are some murmurings among the farmers, but nothing that demands your attention. We are prosperous."

    Nezetkhamun nodded, and finally stood.

"I thank you for these happy tidings, my council. Would that they were true."

A chill swept the room, as every member of the council suddenly shrank into their chair, eyes darting about the room. Who had lied?

"It is true, we may be secure at the moment, but we must not slip into complacency. The outside world is not so small as we imagined, and the foreign ships sighted on our shores tell of great and terrible powers at work beyond our borders. We must not be caught unprepared. Dagi, command the Dragon Warriors to redouble their training, for they will be our spear to strike against the cruelty of fate. Inaros, our forces may be sufficient to control our jungles, but they are not enough for us to cow the outside world. More warriors must be raised, and more ships built. Pageti, I have heard the cries of the people, the rumors they spread of the great beasts found in other lands. I will send delegations to secure these creatures, as well as anything else our people might desire. For we are the chosen of dragons, and we shall not want."

    Months Later

The ship appeared with little warning, sailing north from the unexplored interior. At first their was panic, and talk of war, but the sight of the ship put those fears to rest. It was a trireme, its outer hull bedecked with gold inlay and carvings, its figurehead a roaring dragon. It sailed into Fiassa's Fast at noon, displaying its wealth for all to see. Coming to a stop before the docks proper, a man in crimson robes appeared atop the figurehead, and shouted out in an unfamiliar tongue. When there was no response, another man of lesser stature appeared, and they conversed for a moment. Then, the crimson-clad man set his shoulders, and shouted forth in the common tongue.

"Greetings, people of the west. We have come for talk and trade. Who is it that leads you!?"

Stat increases from last round: +1 diplomacy, +1 curiosity, +1 luck

396: "I do not care Chieftain Shael, the needs of Angana are more pressing than your proposed aqueduct. My Sovereign, it is essential that funds be released to better finance the rebuilding of our -"
"Living in a tent never hurt anyone Elder Ryshigan. We need more water if we are to increase crop yields, not everyone is so lucky as to live in abundance!"
Most Royal Council meetings seemed to go this way from Shenath's perspective. He understood their concerns, but he had bigger ones, and as such, he was paying more attention to the stained glass of the Council Chamber's windows and doors than he was to their arguments. He did so admire this room, even if half of it made no sense. After all, none of the windows were actually on an exterior wall. Most curious indeed, though he had to admit the effect of the golden lanterns shining behind them was rather attractive. Fortunately the King was interrupted from his musings on interior design just as one of the councillors was about to gravely insult another.
"Chieftain Shael, Elder Ryshigan, both of your proposals are valid. But the news from Sulvan's Fury and Cassia cannot go unheeded. I cannot in good conscience direct royal funds to public works with our armies so greatly weakened. It would be negligent of us to ignore this threat."
As he spoke, a servant appeared from a side door with a stack of documents and began passing them to representatives of Kyaralath, Hazaria and Angan Anvale.
"These are warrants ordering the raising of volunteers to serve in the Royal Army of Ashenia. The fate of us all may depend on them. If there is no further business to attend to, I must write a letter to the Qzare. May the Spirits smile upon you."
Without waiting for their response, the King left to attend to other matters. When the country was at peace, he would provide for rebuilding Angana and irrigation works in Hazaria, but in the meantime, avoiding death was preferable.

Some months later, a ship sailed into a harbour on the coast of Aus-Teire. A tall woman in robes of red and white carrying a staff topped with a silver raven in one hand and a scroll of fine parchment in the other addressed the people on the dock.
"The Sovereign of Ashenia, His Serene Majesty Shenath Toranath, sends greetings from the Kingdom of Ashenia. I, Lady Imasera Ranael, bear from him a message of vital importance for His Imperial Majesty Qzare Xiu Wandao, may the spirits look favourably upon him."
That said, she began to wait until a suitable official came to speak with her.

While all this was going on in the capital and abroad, an inquiry was being held in Severikand. Magistrates appointed by the King himself sought to turn the city upside down in their investigation of the theft of the Printing Press. Not a stone was left unturned at the University, the printing workshops, the copyhouses or the marketplaces. Whether it took them five years or not, they would find the culprit, or at least a lead.

Spoiler: Official letter to Qzare Xiu Wandao. Read it if you want.
    Show
    To the Most Esteemed Qzare Xiu Wandao of the Salterri Imperium, greetings;
I trust that my emissary has found you well and that peace reigns within your realm. However, this message must dwell upon a matter most grave.
As you may be aware, the Kingdom of Ashenia possesses a machine that allows for the production of many more books than is possible by hand. Alas, the King of Jarrland desired this technology also, and when we declined his offer to purchase it, he chose to break Ashenite law and illegally acquire this knowledge. Would that his crimes had stopped there.
Unfortunately, Jarrland has brazenly chosen to profit from Ashenite ingenuity and several nations have already purchased. Some were tricked into the purchasing of stolen goods, and others knowingly did so. Were Jarrland an independent state we would seek retribution directly, but as the Kingdom of Jarrland is subject to your rule, we defer to you the task of ensuring justice is carried out.
    Yours in trust,
Shenath Toranath, King of Ashenia, Prince of Eseda, Prince of Kyaralath, Castellan of Adrakand, Castellan of Misakand, Lord of the Anvale

*Accompanying this letter is a stack of documents verifying the Ashenite origin of the technology and the Kingdom of Jarrland's previous attempt to purchase it diplomatically.

She will be requesting an audience with the Qzare concerning a crime committed by one of his subjects against the Kingdom of Ashenia. Specifically, the theft of the Printing Press technology committed by the Kingdom of Jarrland against the Kingdom of Ashenia. [Diplomacy]

Bonus Action: Launch an investigation into the theft of the Printing Press technology to find out if the leak took place in Ashenia.
Apparently a roll was required for this. I got an eight using the rules of the rules for investigations. Though I would note that the rules for investigations do not seem to apply to criminal investigations which I think would be more of a diplomacy thing. If a roll was not required for this, then excellent. This is only here for just in case.

    Year 396, First solar cycle:

    "Are all the commanders informed?"
Nyllana asked, absentmindedly touching the scars on her wings.
"Yes, my Empress, they are ready to sortie at any moment now."
A old Kasumori man said to her, a colonel of the emperial army.
"Let them rendevouz with the Guilderine forces are prepare a defense. This has been going on for long enough. I trust you can handle the rest?"
"Yes, my Empress, your will is my wish." The colonel bowed and took his leave.
After the soldier left the room, Nyllana stared out of her window, deep in thought.
"Why is my country filled with adversity and hate?"
    Nyllana thought.
    "Are we really that evil?"
She shook her head. That was impossible, the Hurosha Empire had the blessing of Ashmar, Guardian of the Elements. The ones attacking were only shortsighted fools. She looked at a scroll on her desk. The scroll that could change everything, if she had more time. Even the One who guards Fire and the Ice Demon would tremble at what was to come. She just hoped she could last untill then.

    Year 396, Second solar cycle:

Mejok was looking over the Huroshan armies, standing on top of a hill that doubled as the command post for invasion that was imminent. Ten thousand Huroshan soldiers. Cloudiz, Goblins and Dwarves, all geared up and ready to go. A loud buzzing filled the air at all times, giant beetles carrying around supplies and dragonflies transporting messengers swiftly from one place to the other. It was a glorious sight. The reformation of the army when Hurosha united its regions certainly payed off. Even more, he could see the Guilderene forces approaching from the east, marching in a tight formation. Messenges arrived from the Jewelled Cities that they would also assist in the defence of Kasumor. Mejok grinned. This war would be glorious. Militant, rebel or otherwise, they would be squashed beneath the iron heel of the Grand Coalition. Just like old times.

    Year 397, First solar cycle:

Nyllana's eyes scanned the letter, carefully reading every word. The contents of the letter was quite disturbing. Glazzfell investigators had been spotted in Tekorva, unannounced. This could mean one of two things: Scouts for a potential invasion or an unit of investigators to determine the cause of Princess Encir's death. Her own investigators came up empty, being unable to locate Kuramkesh or any of his officers. Together with the rebels having mithril and the surge of militants flooding towards Kasumor, screaming about "painting the ground red" and "black hubris", it was a weird and fearful situation. Standing up, she glimpsed Kuroyume in its case, its black blade absorbing all the light that touched it. Maybe the black wasn't that far of a stretch. However, it was still weird. The Kasumori, or the Cloudiz for that matter, were not hostile to the Lord of Fire at all. Maybe the captives of the battle could tell her more. But for now, she should send the Guardians on their way to help investigating. Walking out of her study, she decided to go to the kitchens to get something to eat. A little bit unorthodox, but the cooks were used to it. She smiled. She had more of her fathers temperament in her than most other people suspected. And it was a good thing too. Almost too good...

    Somewhere in Jarrland

Alfwigg and Millie, an unlikely couple. The heir to the throne of Jarrland and Matriarch Militiae the Valorous of the Church of Ascension. The two met at the Moonshroud Festival and immediately hit it off. She related the story of how her grandmother, a native Jarrlander, had fallen in love with a Salterri centurion and, against her parents' wishes, run away to marry him in Salteire. After learning of her heritage, Millie long desired to see the land of her grandmother and live with the people there, sharing with them the truth of Ascension. A fierce woman and warrior at heart, she found a kindred spirit in Alfwigg, and the two soon became close friends... perhaps even lovers.

    Campestrus Pratum (formerly Minotron)

Through the efforts of the Priory, the native humans of the province have begun organizing much as did the Jarrlanders. Unlike the noble Jarrlanders though, the locals have a long way to go... At the command of the Qzare, an independent government will not be created in the region. The locals have already shown that they can not cooperate well enough to form a stable region and resist outside threats. As such, the newly budding local government is redirected to function under the direct administration of the Priory.

Though driven back away from settled lands, the minotines are not driven out entirely. A small diplomatic envoy is sent to meet with their leaders to begin negotiating a peace agreement.

    A letter to Hanyeo

A letter arrives in the year 396 bearing the seal of Chief Hierarch Zanper Fidious. It is delivered by Patriarch Gloriosis, who met Hanyeo at the last Moonshroud Festival and was enamored by him. His respect for the Qzare's brother only grew as he learned more of the man. After delivering the letter, he asks permission to remain behind to serve with Hanyeo and learn mastery of the matters of state from him.
    Spoiler: The letter
    Show
    Honored Xiu Hanyeo,

I have heard naught from you of late, my friend, not since the last Moonshroud Festival. I hope to hear from you soon. Perhaps you can visit us in Salteire soon.

Unfortunately, this letter cannot be only pleasantries. There have been foul rumors among the populace about the Qzare, which I have done my best to quell. Know that I do not speak against the Qzare, but they have become so prevalent among the people that I cannot leave it unaddressed and must inquire as to the veracity of the claims. The people tell the most slanderous story that the Qzare treats with those very people responsible for his great dishonor in battle of defeat and capture. I am aware that he invited the the woman Syana of the Triumvirate to the last Festival, but the story goes on to claim that not only was she here at that time but that the two have been seen traveling across the Imperium together. It then goes on to claim that he is currently visiting the place of his captivity! Worse yet, there are rumors that the Qzare is cavorting with his captor romantically!

I can not believe that such rumors are true, but they are so prevalent and have such apparent support for them that I can not help but wonder. I know that the Qzare would never dishonor himself or the Imperium with such scandal. I pray, friend, that you will speak to your brother to guard himself against such vicious rumors. There are those who might try to take advantage of the situation to depose him. If I learn of any such sinister plotting, I will of course forward the information to you that appropriate defenses can be taken. The integrity of the Imperium and the throne of the Qzare must be maintained and protected at all costs.

To protect the Imperium, I ask for your assistance on another matter entirely. Bor-Teire has been invaded by false prophets of the fire demon worshiped in the barbarian north. They have converted a large portion of the population and are fomenting a civil war against the the established government there. Your brother seems to be affected somewhat by allowing this to continue despite our written agreement otherwise. To show my loyalty and dedication to the Imperium, I am dispatching troops to reinforce the imperial government and protect the faithful followers of Our Lady. Unfortunately, the Priory does not possess ample military to suppress the incursions in their entirety. As such, I beg you to send military reinforcements to assist our fight against those who would try to turn our people away from the Imperium and the true faith.

I hope this letter finds you well and that I will hear from you soon, my brother. Would that we could but drink together in times of peace.

In the name of Our Silvery Lady Ascendant,
Chief Hierarch Zanper Fidious the Holy

"Chief Hierarch, please," Wandao said, his voice stern, but his posture gentle. "I do not intend to treat you and your people any less than other valued citizens of the Imperium. It is for that reason that we are discussing this, as I have or will with the other Provincial Lords. Our faith in the Silver Lady may be the same, but your practice is different from mine. I shall read these books of yours, but until I have and in the case I agree with everything in them, the only restriction I impose on you is the spreading of your faith in Imperial provinces directly administered by me and only spread it in vassal states who allow it and our protectorates of lesser status. Bor-Teire has recently been demoted to such, partly on account of spread of heathen beliefs in the northerners' Lord of Fire.

"The tribute you needn't worry about as much as you do. Salteire will not need to pay tribute in food, as we know there to be little, but if your other provinces have plenty, they can export it to both Salteire and Aus-Teire, ensuring that no people have to suffer famine as our barbarian neighbours do. Furthermore, I desire to decrease the tribute you pay from Salteire, as we no longer desire gold, especially when you can provide us with more essential things now that you've been allowed to lay claim to more regions."

Wandao filled himself another goblet and picked it up, as well as one for Zanper that he held before him. "In tribute, this will be beneficial to the both of us. In matters of faith, you are still more highly regarded than any of our other vassals, but beyond that I will give you the same treatment as those of the same station: as a great man. You've proven that you are, last night. For that reason, I trust you completely in resolving the matter of the minotines, no matter what challenge they might pose, militarily or diplomatically. Who knows? They might yet turn out to be a valuable new resource of soldiers for the Imperium."

Wandao smiled and raised his goblet, before taking another gulp.

(Just rounding things up. Shame the other parts couldn't be finished in time, but we'll resolve that otherwise.)
He takes the goblet and places it on the table. Though the fire has diminished, the Chief Hierarch remains stoney.

"Unfortunately, none of the provinces I administer are capable of producing abundant foodstuffs. As such, providing sufficiently for my people is of penultimate concern. You say you no longer need gold, this is good, as the change of Bor-Teire to a vassal state means that Salteire no longer provides you with it, yet our agreement with that province continues to provide the drum lizards which have become quite popular fare recently.

Silver we can provide, as we currently have a small excess, but salt again becomes a problem. We already export it to Aus-Teire, in exchange for grains, and have no additional salt to export at this time. If the salt shipments are to be reclassified as tribute, that would necessitate the end of the grain shipments. Would it not? If not, then why change the existing agreement? It seems the current arrangement there is already equitable to both parties.

Bracia, as you know, produces only small crops of hops, possessing no other agriculture of which to speak. The Bracian Beer they produce with the grains provided from the aforementioned trade is rather nice, from what I have heard. I can arrange for a few barrels of that to be shipped to your palace if that is your desire. Beyond that, I have nothing to offer the Imperium in resources beyond that which is already being given.
      "

He pauses to take the smallest sip possible from the goblet. Not only is it a precept of the faith to remain sober, but the Chief Hierarch wishes to have all his wits about him while dealing with the Qzare. Instead, he slowly sloshes the liquid in his glass in a small circle as he speaks.

"Speaking of Campestrus Pratum brings me to another point I wished to discuss with you, namely that of defense. While I have no taste for war, I must be able to defend the people for whom I am responsible. As such, I again request access to the methods of producing plate armor. Former-Qzare Hanyeo was not comfortable distributing this technology while temporary reigning due to the incorporeality of his rule. However, the recent invasion of the Minotines into Imperium territories combined with the threats of incursion on the northern borders, which my provinces occupy, my people need to be able to produce means of sufficient defense. Access to the technology to assemble a fleet of warships to defend the coastlines would be beneficial as well, but it is not absolutely necessary at this time.

Finally, we have been monitoring the religious tumult in Bor-Teire but have thus far stayed our hand in deference to the throne. With the change in governance, I can no longer stand aside and watch as infidels slaughter the faithful. Unless you command otherwise, I intend to send clergy to reinvigorate the faith and troops to suppress further violence.
      "

OOC: Will send silver. Nothing else changes.

Will begin colonizing Bor-Teire, unless it requires some other action, such as military.

Still no time for much fluf allas,

But I do have some of it:
Topiltzin declares that the day the drought suddenly ended will from now on be a holy day, a day for all to remember that the Lord of fire above all else is a just god who will not see its people suffer undeservedly.
Topiltzins oldest son marries and has twins a boy and a girl (just like him and his twin sister).

    Actions;

-(diplomacy 10) Topiltzin the Lava king of Gunung declares that from this day onwards Gunung and all its teretories will be united as provinces of the Grand Kingdom of Gunung also to be kwon as the Kingdom of the Burning Mountains.
    (stabilise actions: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...1#post17373115 )

-(Curio) (minor project) The "quinnahualittato" known as the "office of Gunung internal intelligence" by foreigners is fully implemented. (2/2)

-(Curio) (minor project) With Pyronia cooperating with Gunung officials and allowing us to make copies of their master weights and measures our neighbour's and ally's standardized metric system is fully implemented in the Grand kingdom of Gunung. (2/2)

-(Curio) The great lava canals(previously finished grand project) where build to keep the mountains calm and the people save, with the current activity they will be truly tested for the first time. In order to ensure the canals perform their job well fire priests, canal workers and guilderese scientists are used to monitor the situation and make adjustments and expansions to the canals as needed (possible minor project, improve grand lava canals 1/2)

-(Curio) (mionr project 1/2) Large amounts of equipment are being shipped from all over the kingdom to the city of Tlecuahuitl, mostly large tin plates of adamantium and steel as well as, wooden panels and large amounts of rope. In the city itself huge warehouses have been build on the mountains edge and all over Gunung, what strangly enoug look like docks are being build at the mountaintop outpost that are on the top of each volcano containing a city.
Note : sorta pseudo secret action, all shall be reviled when I take my curio 10 action next round :)

-edit: [LONG ROUND BONUS] (mil) 1000 archers with adamantium arrows.

    Mid-Round Bonus Time!

For those who weren't yet aware: the current round lasts until Thursday the 15th. This is due to both IC reasons of plot and OOC reasons of me needing to arrange incredibly important education-related things.

For that reason, as it means the round takes about one-and-a-half times as long as a normal one, I think it's fair to give everyone one free bonus action, but one that does not count towards attribute bonuses (and, of course, cannot be a secret action). Please mark this extra action as [LONG ROUND BONUS].

In the meantime, since there hasn't really been an event for this round (though there are three threads that are private for now), here is an event of sorts in which you can participate on both sides:

    Year 397

    Most Divine Teotlkan,

I write to you at the end of our great journey, with tidings glad and dire. Our passage north was a peaceful one, and our craft went unmolested by the ships that prowl these uncharted waters. Truly, these slave-tongued foreigners have accomplished much despite their inferiority, for we saw vessels on the horizon capable of traversing the ocean beyond the sight of the coast. I have enclosed an etching done by one of my tlacuillo - if we are to expand your divine influence to these barbaric lands, I fear we must learn from their humble efforts.

But these were not the only wonders we witnessed, for on our approach we beheld a coast unlike any in creation. The very rock itself seemed shot through with the innumerable colors of the rainbow, flowing like water across the landscape until they met the coast. We hailed a passing ship, and were directed to a sizable trade port. As we were told, the slave-tongue seems ubiquitous in these lands, and we had no trouble in communicating. I am told this region is known as Raaneka, and is something of a political power in this strange continent. The locals are marvelous barbarians, for they walk their own streets near nude, clad only in the flimsiest garments and completely embraced by elaborate tattoos. Yet rather than slave markings, I am told Raaneki tattoos serve as a kind of personal history. It was most peculiar, to see a people committing their biographies to flesh rather than papyrus. Still, they were a gregarious and friendly society, though they expressed some confusion as to the nature of our toltecatl's tattoos. As instructed, I named them servants only, and this seemed to satisfy the Raaneki.

Departing the port city of Bindar, my escort and I made our way north, following the path of a vast mountain range that supposedly extends to the edge of the world. Our journey was comfortable, for it passed through the verdant Raaneki fields known as the Berrylands. According to the reports of other travelers, the wine the Raaneki distill from these berries is a true wonder of the continent. Perhaps it may even please your Holiness' palette. Regardless, we eventually left the Berrylands in our wake, and entered the nation of Calorum. Here is where my tale turns grim, for the very earth seems enraged the further north we travel. The very fires of Tzetultep erupt from the ground and scour the land. Thousands have died, and thousands more seem set to die in a pagan holy war. I will endeavor to learn more of this conflict for my future reports. Still, our passage went unchallenged by the locals, and we made good time to the capital of Umrich. I was greeted warmly by their leader, one Vilindrae Divinorum, who willingly accepted my credentials. It appears that Calorum bears a striking resemblance to our own great Tzalteclan, as they are ruled over by the avatar of their god, a kind of ambiguous fire deity from what I gather. I am happy to report they possess vast herds of animals known as "cattle", and are willing to trade them in great numbers for our gold.

I have used the funds allotted me to establish an embassy here, and will endeavor to learn more of the growing conflict. While the Calorum religion bears some similarity to our own, I would advise caution in attempting to spread the word of Tzetultep here. This continent is already a hotbed of violently opposed ideologies, and I fear the words of the true god would only be met with violence.

    I remain your humble servant,
    Ambassador Bay Irsu

The War Doctrine of Anguri Adite the Golden
    Queen of Raaneka
First Marshal of the Raaneki Berunda
Councilor of War to the Royal Council
    Daughter of Aditi Blackhands

So that Raaneka might know greater security, may all the painted folk heed this doctrine. So that we might grow closer with our kin and our allies, may Qarimos and Ayava heed them in kind. May our ancestors be proud of our deeds.

War is fought by warriors. May the Royal Council Army be made of seven kinds of warriors, so that our generals will never lack for choice. First among these is the Berunda Rider, master and servant of the golden bird. Next in majesty are the Council Cavalry, then the Raaneki Infantry. Qarimosi Skirmishers, Archers, and Marines shall make up the auxiliary forces.

Arms and Armor of the Royal Council Army
    Spoiler
    Show
Without exception, may each warrior in the Royal Council Army be trained in both Raaneki and Qarimosi fighting arts. Each warrior is expected to select one of these arts as their specialty.

May Berunda Riders, first among our warriors, rely upon speed of body and focus of mind. May they strike and fade, and hedge their enemies in with flame. May all riders wear mithral greaves and bracers, and quilted silk armor. May they carry either bow, spear, or buckler and sword of mithral.

May the Council Guards be drawn from those warriors of distinction who are not called to be berunda riders. May they know great glory and fame for their service to the council. Befitting their station, may they be girt with breastplate, helmet, shield, and greaves of mithral, and a spear and sword of the same. May all be etched in fine filigree with gold and many precious gems.

May the Royal Cavalry ride the fierce horses of Crima, and may those horses be girt with armor of leather and silk. May the riders bear the same arms and armor of the Council Guard, but without filigree or decoration.

May the Raaneki Infantry face chaos and terror with skill at arms and surety in defense. May they carry spear and sword of iron, and may they be girt in scale mail, buckler, and greaves of mithral.

May the Qarimosi Skirmishers bolster our forces with agility and guile. May they carry a sword of iron but javelins of mithral, that they might be thrown all the farther. May they wear armor of finest quilted silk.

May the Qarimosi Archers rain arrows of iron upon our foes, and may they carry long knives of iron as a last resort. So that they remain unencumbered, may they wear armor of quilted silk.

Last, but not least, may the Qarimosi Marines girt themselves for battle upon the seas. May they wear armor no heavier than silk, that they might swim when cast overboard. May they carry a Qarimosi War Axe, either of iron, or ivory, or mithral, as their station dictates. May they also carry a shortbow, and arrows of iron for the moments before boarding.

And should these forces not be sufficient for Raaneka’s defense, may all citizens brave and true heed the call for a Royal Militia. Because there are so many adventurers and bold warriors to be found amongst the Raaneki, may the militia provide their own arms and armor. They shall be summoned only at need.

    Army Composition and Strategy
    Spoiler
    Show
By the words of Raaneka, may the Royal Council Army earn glory for its deeds. By the words of Ayava, may these deeds be done with excellence. By the words of Qarimos, may our armies know flexibility in the face of adversity. In search of all these ideals, may the Royal Council Army be ordered thusly:

    Aerial Flights
May there be three flights of the Raaneki Berunda, and may each flight be made of 20 berundas and their riders. May the smallest, lightest, nimblest, and bravest warriors in the land be awarded this honor, the highest in all the lands. So that those massive and sturdy warriors in the land might also know high honors also, may each berunda flight be made of an additional 20 warriors, who will serve as guardians of the Royal Council Palace. May the sky-leapers of Maos guide riders and guardians alike in the cultivation of the body, so that Raaneka might know no warriors fiercer or more capable than the Raaneki Berunda.

1st Berunda Flight (Command) 2nd Berunda Flight (Assault) 3rd Berunda Flight (Scouting)
    20 Berunda Riders
    20 Council Guards
    20 Berunda Riders
    20 Council Guards
    20 Berunda Riders
    20 Council Guards

    Land Regiments
The Royal Council has decreed that three regiments of 1,000 soldiers each shall stand guard over Raaneka and her provinces. May each Regiment be lead by a Lord or Lady Commander, rallied around a standard bearer, and roused to glory by a warrior herald, but may each Regiment be composed of a mix of warriors suited to their strategic purpose. May the 1st Regiment act at the vanguard of Raaneka’s armies, and to that end may it be made of doughty warriors and fleet-footed scouts. May the 2nd Regiment hold our greatest strength of infantry, to better act as the main guard of our armies. Lastly, may the 3rd Regiment aspire to the rearguard by any means; may they seek glory in deeds of sabotage and surprise.
1st Council Regiment (Vanguard) 2nd Council Regiment (Main guard) 3rd Council Regiment (Rearguard)
    400 Council Cavalry
    400 Raaneki Infantry
    100 Qarimosi Skirmishers
    100 Qarimosi Archers
    200 Council Cavalry
    600 Raaneki Infantry
    100 Qarimosi Skirmishers
    100 Qarimosi Archers
    500 Raaneki Infantry
    300 Qarimosi Skirmishers
    150 Qarimosi Archers
    50 Ayavan Saboteurs

    Naval Fleet
Even as Raaneka shall be defended by forces on land, so too does the Council decree the organization of a Grand Council Navy. May this navy be formed of three fleets, each serviced by 1,000 marines. May these fleets be suited to those same purposes as the Grand Army: the 1st Council Fleet shall serve as the vanguard, the 2nd Council Fleet as the main guard, and the 3rd Council Fleet as the rearguard.
1st Council Fleet (Vanguard) 2nd Council Fleet (Main guard) 3rd Council Fleet (Rearguard)
    2 Elephant Galleys (600 Marines)
    6 Fast Dhow (300 Marines)
    5 escort Dhow (100 Marines)
    1 Elephant Galley (300 Marines)
    4 Heavy Dhow (300 Marines)
    6 Fast Dhow (300 Marines)
    5 Escort Dhow (100 Marines)
    6 Heavy Dhow (450 Marines)
    7 Fast Dhow (350 Marines)
    10 Escort Dhow (200 Marines)

Construction of the Royal Council Fleet
    Spoiler
    Show
In deference to the wisdom of Prince Jacob Serendel, Lord Admiral of the Royal Council Navy, may each vessel of the Council fleets be made ready to sail across the bosom of the ocean. No land shall lie beyond reach of our might. May each vessel be crafted of golden Raaneki timbers, and may each fly sails of war-red silk. Just as our armies shall know strength in flexibility with their many kinds of warriors, so too will our navies be made of many ships of diverse design.

May the Elephant Galley, the largest and best of our ships, be made with twin hulls, and propelled by four masts of junk sails. They shall be built with many guarded bays for archer, and wide gangplanks for boarding action. May 300 marines stand guard aboard each vessel, and may each galley provide space for berunda and rider to alight. May all come to fear their might.

May the Heavy Dhow be built for hard battle, with two masts of lateen sails for long and dangerous voyages. May its hold be wide and deep, and may 75 marines stand guard upon each.

May the Fast Dhow be built for speed and distance, with two masts of lateen sails. May no other ship in the fleet be better suited to long and lonely voyages, and may 50 marines stand guard upon each.

Finally, may the Escort Dhow scout for our navies and harry our enemies with agility. May each a single lateen mast, and may their captains know glory in the strength of many fellows. May 20 marines guard each.

May these words be read by all with eyes to see, and heard by all with ears to hear. May every woman and man of every land in Telluris know the might of Raaneka’s armies, for they would test us at their peril.

    Actually, I lied. Kinda.

Spoiler: A Bazaar Turn of Events, 398
    Show
It is important to remember that when one chooses to enter the world stage, they alone no longer hold full sovereignty over events, even those involving themselves. An important lesson to learn indeed, though hopefully in a benign manner. It is rarely desirable to have one's first contact with the outside world be a bloody invasion, after all.

Thankfully, this is not an invasion. Not of the military sort, at any rate. At sunrise upon the Eastern Sea, a fleet of vessels come sailing over open water. Their make resembles that of the Guilderene ships commonly seen in Fiassa's fast to the Northwest, but these are nevertheless somewhat different. The wood is heavy and dark, contrasting with the fine white silk of the tri-angled sails. The flags flying over the ships are different as well, rich in violets and blues and whites, depicting a twice-bearded axe imposed over a snowflake.

Goodness, have the men and women of Tzalteclan ever so much as seen a snowflake, in their tropical homelands?

Still, despite their imposing number and their advanced nature, with high prows and bowed sides to cut cleanly and quickly through the deep ocean waters these ships are those of trade, carrying no weapons aside from a hidden stash of survival tools and blades to fend off the occasional pirate. This can be easily seen as they approach, the flagship decks laden with goods of every fine color under the sun, and the rest of them carrying just as much.

As the Floating Market rolls into harbor and its crew becomes more visible, it is increasingly clear that these foreigners are rather strange, perhaps even stranger than the Raaneki and Guilderenes that they would already have been exposed to. Creatures with icy-blue flesh and even some with oddly translucent bodies toil alongside Cats and Wolves in the shapes of men. All shaped like men, and yet different. Some might even have been fully human, were it not for the occasional odd feature marking them as different somehow.

Each one seems to speak its own tongue, one of several languages originating further North, but a Frosten spokesman arrives soon enough with some knowledge of the "slave-tongue", or "trade language" as everybody else calls it.

"Greetings, Men of the South! I speak on behalf of the Sailing Bazaar, a trade company from the Glazfelli Hegemony to the north, just past the Guilderenes. There are plans in the near future to begin constructing a Wonder of all the world in our lands, and word has reached our ears that the Men of Tzalteclan are the finest purveyors of...laborers that can be found upon the face of Telluris. The Glazfelli send many samples of our fine goods, and hope that the Men of Tzalteclan would wish to share in our wealth and plenty!"

As with all urgent matters, I will keep this short. I can confirm my brother has treated with the Triumvirate and the Serendel Kingdom. In doing so, he has ensured a more advantageous position for the Imperium on the global stage. As to what relationship he might have with the Empress, I cannot confirm anything beyond the professional level, which is the Qzare's primary motive.

Due to trouble brewing in Shengdi, the majority of our forces must be concentrated in our west. I therefore can spare few troops for you, but a sole legion from Discordia. Be that it will be enough.
