Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
Well, uh, we'll see. Personally I don't trust Jojo here. It's one thing to want to know about an old friend; it's another to offer information of genuine military significance in exchange for satisfying that curiosity. That makes the deal look too good to be true, and when a Carnie offers you a deal that's too good to be true, it probably is.
(I don't think that they were ever presented as "evil casters", but trickery and deception and cheating is what they do -- it's their skillset, so it's always going to be how they fight. I mean, it's how Parson fights, too, but either way it still means it makes sense to be more cautious about a deal offered by Jojo. At the very least I'd make him swear a binding oath that he isn't requesting this information in an attempt to help Charlie or to hurt Parson's side in any way; the danger of cutting any sort of deal directly with one of Charlie's main associates seems too high otherwise.)Last edited by Aquillion; 2015-04-14 at 03:00 PM.

Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
I think the only advantage would be that you don't have to ground your best warlord by promoting him to ruler. Neither casters nor rulers ever (should) leave the capital. A Lookamancer, Thinkamancer or Findamancer will stay at home anyway. But a caster doesn't have much knowledge of strategies and political intrigue, so he isn't designed to fill this role.
Also, there might be a personal level. As you said, it is not very likely that a heir (or royal warlord) is popped as a caster, so you caster wouldn't be on of the "children" of a king or queen, so most rulers wouldn't even have the choice to designate a family member that is a caster as heir.

Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
Better option, in my book:
"I didn't know your friend before the volcano, I only met her after Wanda brought her back. She was a little creepy, a little intense, but I liked her. She served well, but that <expletive deleted> Kingworld <expletive deleted> Charlie pulled put her in an unwinnable situation. Then she fought to her final moment to buy me the time to find a way out of it. I don't know what carnymancers think of warlords and such, and I don't really get the City of Heroes talk, but I'll tell you this: your friend was something special, and I am truly sorry she's gone."Spoiler: My inventory:
1 Sentient Sword
1 Jammy Dodger (I was promised tea)
1 Godwin Point.

Spoiler: New comic
Tsk, tsk, tsk, Roger. I distinctly remember you saying "If anyone's a spy, they'd better think twice before assisting a Titans-disbanded Carny!"
EDIT: Apologies.

Spoiler: UpdateWell we knew there was a mole. The question then becomes, is the spy in question doing this for the Royalist cause, or was he never a true believer from the beginning? The former is more likely, but who knows.Last edited by Legato Endless; 2015-04-17 at 03:38 PM.

You know. Kudos to Rob for not just posting a short update for the cash. Can't say I'd turn down a half grand for a little work.

Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
How did you do that?
I've tried clicking on the circular arrow icon in Firefox, and that does nothing.
It seems to be the case that this nonsense transfers from page to page with every new page, so I can read it one page behind the rest of you, but that does make this thread pointless for me, and I'm not sure I'll bother any more. The end of what Son? Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
I just inspected the element in Firefox and deleted the offending picture :P
It's not half a grand for backer stories. It's only half a grand for comic updates. Only a subset of people opted for Book 0 and backer story updates. How I know? I didn't subscribe for those updatesLast edited by -D-; 2015-04-23 at 09:55 AM.

Re: Erfworld thread IV: In memory of King Saline
Thanks for that. It didn't work, but it was worth trying.
The Comic Genesis hosted comics are all dead to me because I don't have referers set and switching it on and off isn't easy enough to make that an option, I suspect this is the same though it also might be not allowing cookies that's doing it in this case.Last edited by halfeye; 2015-04-23 at 12:29 PM.
