You can try, just take some rope... ;)
I guess you are thinking about planar binding, that is a yes too, but only if either the caster or the called outsider is not on the prime material plane during the casting.Originally Posted by SRD

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5: Score and Nine
Q128
Is there anything preventing an Incantatrix from using her third level ability Metamagic Effect on the spells of enemy casters, ie Sculpting an existing Alarm spell into a 120ft line pointing straight up?
Q129
Confirmation: Sculpt Spell doesn't actually work on Grease, does it, because Grease is a Target spell and Sculpt only works on Area spells.
Q130
When you Sculpt a spell that's a specific area within a range, are you allowed to recenter the new spell anywhere within the range? Like using Sculpt Metamagic Effect on an Evard's Black Tentacles to 'chase' around an enemy who has managed to escape it the first time it's cast?

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5: Score and Nine
A 128
The Incantatrix can make the attempt. Possible obstacles to the Incantatrix succeeding using Metamagic Effect with Shape Spell on some other spellcaster's spells:
- not knowing that an Alarm spell is in place
- not knowing that a spell is an area effect
- not being inside or adjacent to the Alarm effect
- no longer being inside or adjacent to the Alarm effect when Sculpt Spell is being applied
Metamagic Effect requires the Incantatrix to be in or adjacent to the area spell. That requirement exists at both the beginning and end of the Metamagic Effect full-round action, so it's going to limit where the Incantatrix can be and successfully apply Sculpt Spell.
A 129
Grease is a Target or Area spell. If it's the Target version, attempting to apply Sculpt Spell metamagic will fail.
A 130 No.
There is no provision in Sculpt Spell to change the origin point (grid intersection) of the spell, only its shape.Last edited by Curmudgeon; 2015-01-21 at 03:26 PM.

RAW-wise only you can see and hear the stuff from the spell Scrying as the spell only says you. The images don't even necessarily come from the mirror. According to RAW if you lose the mirror after casting the spell you should still be able to see and hear the stuff from the scry until the duration is over.Extended signature (Includes Giantitp regulars as... links, avatar showcase, homebrew, and other stuff.)

Q 133
Does the cranium Rat swarm really break several swarm rules as its entry implies? Apparently it occupies only a 5by5 foot square, and counts as a diminuitive swarm, despite not meeting the minimum number of creatures nor holding up in comparison to a standard rat swarm, which is tiny.

Improved Unarmed Strike allows the creature's unarmed strikes to deal lethal or nonlethal damage at the creature's option. Attacks with other natural weapons are unaffected.

How many negative levels does a single Restoration dispel? I thought you could get rid of all negative levels with a Restoration, but then why Greater Restoration specifies "it dispels all negative levels" (when Restoration says "it dispels negative levels")?

Rapid Spelled Awaken, lowers the casting time of Awaken to 1 hour, which would make the whole idea much more viable (if not necessarily great), for a mere +1 spell level

Restoration restores all negative levels, and one level permanently lost by level drain (within the specified time limit). The confusion stems from Restoration and Greater Restoration both referencing Lesser Restoration, rather than Greater Restoration referencing Restoration: in each case the spell description specifies something Lesser Restoration does not do, but with slightly different wording.

Both of them as they do it independently of each other, and theres nothing anywhere saying that each ability can only give bonus spells to one class (case in point, Illumians can with the right setup use Strength and Dex for any and all of their spellcaster classes for the purposes of bonus spells)

As of the 3.5 update, how does the Haste special ability of the Monster of Legend (MM2) template work? Is the creature considered under the permanent effect of a Haste spell, including bonuses to hit, AC and Reflex saves? My winning competition entries: Kinvig Arrumskor | The Great Pumpkinhead | Wynfrith d'Acker

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5: Score and Nine
A 141 Ask your DM.
The 3.5 MM2 update says that the 3.0 Haste (Su) ability is replaced by Haste spell. The Monster of Legend casts divine spells from the Cleric general spell list and those from the Protection, Strength, and War domains as a 5th-level Cleric. Haste does not appear on any of those lists. (It's on the Celerity and Time domain lists.) So, as written, the 3.5 Monster of Legend has no ability to use that Haste spell.
Your individual DM might create a house rule to include Haste as a 3rd level spell available to the Monster of Legend 1/day.

Q142
Thanks ! So, Caster Level. PHB says "in most cases it's the level of the class the character is using to cast that spell", but it doesn't talk about multiclass characters. Will a Bard 4/Sorcerer 1 casting Magic Missile count as CL1 or CL5 ?Avatar by Mr_Saturn

Without a feat or some other means of boosting Caster Level, a Bard 4/Sorcerer 1 has a CL of 4 for their Bard spells and a CL of 1 with their Sorcerer spells. The spellcasting abilities of each class function entirely separately, similar to your previous question about bonus spells.Last edited by KillianHawkeye; 2015-01-23 at 08:28 PM.

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5: Score and Nine
Q 143 If I have the Sneak Attack class feature, and multiple attacks per round, do I deal Sneak Attacks on every attack in a round against appropriate targets, or just the first attack? Do I get them in some situations but not others? Please cite sources. Thank you!

Sneak attack deals extra damage "any time a target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC [...] or when the rogue flanks her target." There is no per-round restriction. (If other members of your group have been playing other editions of D&D, they could easily be confused, as per-round restrictions were added in 4th and 5th edition.) So as long as they still meet the conditions for a sneak attack on your subsequent attacks, they'll take more sneak attack damage.
If you need a citation, you can point to page 42 of the Rules Compendium:
Precision damage applies on any attack that meets the requirements of the ability that grants the damage. This includes multiple attacks made during a full attack. If conditions somehow change between multiple attacks, attacks that not longer meet the ability’s requirements can’t deal precision damage.
A form of attack that enables an attacker to make multiple attacks during an action other than a full-round action, such as the Manyshot feat (standard action) or a quickened scorching ray (swift action), allows precision damage to be applied only to the first attack in the group.Last edited by Troacctid; 2015-01-23 at 11:25 PM.

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5: Score and Nine
A 143 addendum:
One situation where you'd only get one Sneak Attack would be if you were under the Invisibility spell. Your target would be denied their Dex for the first attack, but after that, the spell would end, you wouldn't be invisible any more, and the target would then get their Dex bonus back for subsequent attacks. Similarly, if you were hiding before the attack, your first attack would be likely to reveal you (unless you could make a Hide check at a -20 penalty to remain hidden).
Cases where you could get multiple Sneak Attacks would include if you were under the effect of Greater Invisibility (which doesn't end when you attack), or if your Hide check is so awesome that you can make the checks at -20 to remain hidden while attacking.Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.

Q146
If a spell appears on a class spell list in a 3.0 book, but an updated version of the spell does not appear on that class's list can I still use the old spell?
For example, the spell Cloud Wings appears as a level 2 Wiz/Sorc spell in savage species, but only as a level 2 Druid spell in the spell compendium. Can I still take it as a Wiz/Sorc?

A 145 No.
Using a spell trigger item normally is considered casting the contained spell, but activating such a device with Use Magic Device is not.
A 146 No.
If the spell has been updated for 3.5, that version supersedes the 3.0 spell in all respects.Last edited by Curmudgeon; 2015-01-24 at 11:46 PM.
