To clarify, what Nar Demon Binder does is progress a fresh set of casting that requires third level casting and starts with fourth level casting. If it's timed right it allows you to get spells 1 character level early by gaining 4th level spells on the next character level after gaining 3rd level spells. It also makes a great minimal investment option for enter dual casting prestige classes.

4th to enter, 5th at 1st level, actually. There's also a trick to get in with level 1 bard casting using Talfirian Song, but early entry is always cray-cray.

That's why I like dual classing them with a higher tier caster. Their spell list is tiny, but it has things that are good enough to spam in most situations. You cast Summons (isn't the theoretical only cast summon monster class a low tier 3?) and Anti Alignment spells to your heart's content and have a entire casting class that's only one character level behind in casting to fall back on.

edit: huh D&D tools is a least semi-functional, when did this happen?

It's not faster than a wizard - they both gain spells at the same rate. It just essentially skips the first level of wizard (or more accurately, the first two levels of sorcerer) in its progression.
