    Default "Random Numbers" Wizard

    Silly request here:

My buddy wants to play a wizard that just rolls random dice for his moves and has enemies doing the same.

    So far we have:
    Bag of Tricks
    Rod of Wonder
    Confusion spell
    Bestow Curse spell

Can any Playgrounders help us out?

Make sure you enter Wildmage. It gives lots of neat abilities regarding random magic. Also, a deck of many things that he convinces enemies to draw from.
Even the luckiest men have an ace up their sleeve.

A lot depends on how much you want it to be random.
E.g. consider the spell defenestrating sphere (Spell Compendium). Yes you have to get through an attack and a saving throw to get to the random bit, but then both distance and direction (unless there is a window about) are randomly generated.

Also if you like confusion don't forget lesser confusion.

Edit: Also plane shift should be his go-to travel spell, but consider teleport using false destinations...

Prismatic Spray, and Prismatic Eye and Prismatic Ray all have a random component.

From memory there is also a Prismatic Bow spell (either Complete Mage or PHBII).

Ideally, the effect of the spell would be random, rather than just a fluctuation of the extent of the effect.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Could be kind of gishy and take the Chaos Devotion feat, letting the roll determine if he wanted to melee or cast each round(I think odds are bonus to attack and evens are bonuses to Armor Class). Sounds like a horrible idea to me, but I suppose if could be interesting....

Look up the Potion Miscibility rules. If he brews potions and chugs them in combat, that stuff could be a barrel of laughs.

And that would be AD&D not D&D 3/3.5. When they turned potions into specific spells they did away with the potion mixing rules - you can now drink as many potions as you like and all you need to check is spell overlapping.

There was actually an April Fool's Day article about drinking multiple potions and having them mix in horrible horrible ways. It was an homage to the earlier editions when such a thing was possible.

If I were to have this player wish to do this particular thing, I would have to houserule in some special stuff just for him.

Wild Mage originated in 2nd Ed Tome of Magic, and I would have to modify that and roll it into 3.5. I believe you can make this modification to any 3.5 caster as it's fairly balanced and does not actually seem to increase net power overall

And then 5e brought it back. *cheers*
