All that means is that you are entitled to voice your opinion to your liege, and their liege. The Confederation is based on the United States Articles of Confederation, which means powerful member states and weak central government. This allows the member states a good deal of freedom. Novrania went to war without so much as a "mother may I" to the Confederation. This will, of course, come back to bite a new player early on- at least symbolically.

Novrania is, at the moment, stongly pro-Imperrium. Their king's lineage even has a dragon, and follows Panshen, the Imperrium religion. All of this leads to a good narrative reason for a new leader to rise up. Perhaps a younger duaghter/son of the king (or younger brother/sister?) resents the official censure from the Confederation and wants to pursue a more aggressive policy. Or perhaps she/he sees the loss of their troops as the King's hubris in not involving their liege lord and uses the anger of the loss of men to propel him/her to the throne.
Freedoms! The rallying cry which everyone loves (well I guess here its about the free willy playstyle) My concern about being said new player is not about getting bit but more about that I'd need help getting used to the ropes so freedoms probably isn't the best thing for me at this point.

That said, being a king/royal/noble has always been the appeal for people when playing games so I guess that is quite a fun thing to play as but looking at the wiki page provided it looks like there is some sort of EU deal going on so how does royalty work here with congress and all? And how does the articles work (as in as it up to player discretion to follow them?) Is that what you mean by coming back to bite (since one of the articles touches on wars)

There isn't much room to expand, there's a lot of history already, and the Sympol are an old and recognizable enough civilization that almost everyone's interacted with them at least a little: They have trade ties spread fairly far and wide, and they've fought wars against half of their neighbors. (Notably they've been attacked from the sea twice, though both times they successfully trounced the attacking fleets.) They have a bit of a reputation for going insane at the drop of a hat too, though of course that's a stereotype. Apparently "Crazy Sympol" has become something of a stock character.

As others have mentioned, the Sympol are built upon a vaguely Prussian/Spartan model with a heavy emphasis on social hierarchy and some level of social Darwinism (and given the almost absurd danger of their homeland, perhaps actual Darwinism too). While their leadership tends to subscribe to militaristic doctrine and they maintain an army, in practice they've been mostly isolationist. One (somewhat floaty and poetic) name for their lands is "The Kingdom of the Iron Doctrine", referring to the first Ironfang's "Iron Doctrine" that has been lightly enforced historically. (Basically imagine the Monroe Doctrine written by rat-men, and focused on the eastern continent.) They have some influence from Warhammer's Skaven, though their culture is quite dissimilar.

In any case, despite it being technically a kingdom, Ironfang takes the style of Duke, preferring to emphasize his holdings in the capital region, the Duchy of Sympolemou. Its other regions are Aimplach, an underground region with its own strange things going on, and Krepida, a more lightly populated polar region to the north. Sympolemou's core region is absurdly dangerous: Its forests are mostly unexplored and filled with extremely hazardous wildlife, random pools of boiling quicksand are strewn about some areas, and even the nicer areas tend to be uncomfortably hot or cold.

The current ruler is Sympolemou is Ironfang III. The last ruler who wasn't an Ironfang was Duke Bloodfang, who grew corrupt and was overthrown by his son Virmiscus after he survived being thrown from the window of the high tower due to a doctor who arrived in time and improvised with prosthetics and steel. He christened himself Ironfang after taking the throne. Now the Iron suit is seen as a symbol of office, of the burdens and weight of rule, and as a reminder to never again become as cruel and depraved as Bloodfang was in his final days.
Well looking at the history that they have I'll take your word that it is a hard start. That said I'm pretty much up for it as long as you don't mind the potential for someone screwing up. I mean given their history it kind of looks like I will be expected to go hungry war machine mode and gear up the engines of battle and I don't think I will be able to help that impulse. Lol.

Totally. Plan on it. But it won't be a secret event. It will be a celebration / party out in the Jeweled Cities. All the events will be in fun and geared towards 'camaraderie'. Think spring break for nobles.

That mystical swirling of multicolored leaves as they dance in the air, that fresh fall smell, the perfect weather that makes you feel so very alive. You can almost forget that you're watching dead tissue accumulate as winter claims the world and floods it with the calming scent of death.

Heh, if you're interested I'd be happy to have you on board. I've contacted Tychris, the original player (who's still in the game, just playing a different faction), who'll hopefully fill in any egregious details I left out. I'll see what I can do about tidying up that region post to hand over to you.

In the meantime, if you want to think on what to do about them, the most immediate issues facing Sympolemou right now that I'd planned to try to address this round are:

    1. Lord Vermoosi, the head of the influential House Vermoosi of the Rapid Run Shore, was given extra resources to search for new lands for the Iron Kingdom to dominate, and after failing twice was dismissed from court. Instead of giving up, he went off and gathered up a small armada of mercenaries and pirates-for-hire, conquered a fabled pirate haven, and made a state out of it. He seems to be attempting to contact Ironfang, though it's not clear whether he's still loyal and attempting to prove his worth or rogue.

    2. More of an insult than a real threat, but the new Doge of Guilder is apparently envious of Duke Ironfang's image and is trying to replicate it with his own oversized metal suit. And, well...

[6:08:05 PM] Jake Mclees: "The new Doge is jealous of the Iron Duke's fabled armor, and orders the construction of a similar suit. It is still in the testing stage, but will be nearly three quarters the size of a Loader when completed. This turns out to, surprisingly, be wise. Fezzik is definitely not fitting into the traditional Dogal Armor."

[6:08:05 PM] Jake Mclees: Ironfang's gonna be pissed.
[6:08:52 PM] Jake Mclees: There's a reason the Iron Suit is used by the Dukes of Sympolemou. It's a solemn reminder of the nature of their rule, a crushing weight that cannot be escaped.
[6:09:16 PM] Jake Mclees: The pain that comes with it.
[6:09:29 PM] Tom: Well I'm sure the new Guilder suit is also a solemn and symbolic... no, I can't say it with a straight face
[6:10:28 PM] Jake Mclees: It's also a reminder to never again become as licentious and abusive of power as Duke Bloodfang was.
[6:11:00 PM] Jake Mclees: So a Guilderene ruler, of all possible people, adopting it...yeeeeeeah...
[6:11:53 PM] Jake Mclees: I'm almost tempted to roll up proper stats for Ironfang so he can honor duel Fezzik over it.
[6:11:58 PM] Jake Mclees: Sadly his stats wouldn't be very good.
[6:12:39 PM] Jake Mclees: I might have to settle for having Ironfang show up to yell at him at an event or something.
[6:12:52 PM] Jake Mclees: Or maybe just send a threatening letter. Y'think I'm on the right track here?

    [5/31/2015 7:49:18 PM] Tychris 1: Yes
    [5/31/2015 7:49:19 PM] Tychris 1: Absolutely
[5/31/2015 7:49:53 PM] Tychris 1: Treating his cultural symbol and personal mutilation as a joke is unwise at best.

Imp has missed turns before. That was nothing new. He's also disappeared for a week or so at a time before. And it was about the right time for him to be ending the school year.

There is no way to be sure he was gone. Technically he could still just show up. He hasn't said he's not coming back. We're just assuming that because of his silence. Honestly I was worried that trying to find another player sooner would push him away, since depending on how he sees it might come across as "oh, they've moved on. No need to go back I guess"

Imp has been playing this game as an ally and co-conspirator with me since round 1. Replacing him isn't something I would do lightly, and honestly I'm reading your comments as flippant and a bit offensive : /

    Hm?

I was talking about the thing where you can get a new member into a Federation using only half of the 2-round project so long as you finish it immediately. Not sure where the idea that I'm talking about replacing Imp is coming from. I thought you guys already had a new member lined up; one of you certainly implied that you did earlier this week.

Together yours and Dark's comments seemed like sarcastic responses to what Snow was saying.

Really it isn't that you're specifically talking about replacing Imp, but that I am worried that he could take us getting a new member at all as replacing him. I still really hope he comes back

Oh, and lots of Jielf for the old folks!
Neat. Fera has never spent a secret action before and it's not time to start now!

I'll make sure to bring extra groups of Haljans, so they're not all alone if 'camaraderie' goes in a certain direction...

Did anyone do a up close map of the Kingdom of the Isles? Specifically Sanglea? I am working up something for Pepper P on the great pit, and want to be geographically accurate.

Fully Raaneki delegation confirmed. Unless zab tell me otherwise >.>

Edit: Forgot that Woodwind has an islander city. So they'll come too.

A Friendly Note to All Players (new and old):

After doing Stat Boosts for three (non-consecutive) rounds, I have come to a simple determination. I like players who include the name of their Nation and Ruler in their IC post.

My mind is not capable of remembering EVERYONE'S nations. And if I can't remember the nation names, you can durn well bet I've got no clue who's the current leader. Can I find this information out? Yes. Yes I can. And I have. But it's a bothersome, sometimes.

    You know what helps?

Posts like Murgen's. Posts like Dracolon's. These aren't the only players, but they are good examples. They have the name of their Nation clearly at the top of the post, and they have the name of their Ruler included in their post -- usually in a very visible, separate section. Even better, Murgen has his own stat chart for each of his rulers (something I've made no secrets about shamelessly stealing for my own posts). It's actually pretty simple to keep up (quote the previous post for you new action, update numbers), and helps GMs (and the people who help them) immensely. (note to new players: I am not a GM, but I help GMs)

Including the name of your Ruler and Nation is not required.

...But you'd make people who help run this game happier if you did it each round.

    Some things to note:

    • There is no such thing as a".5" Luck. This is ONLY for record keeping purposes. If you spend luck OR miss a turn, your imaginary ".5" will disappear.
    • LOGIC - Roll your luck, dude. It's been a few turns. You should get the modifier listed in the image.
    • woolii264 - I can't find your initial rolling stats other then Luck; sorry. Please provide them in a post, and I'll update when I can.
    • RandoMan is at MAX stats in ALL stats. This isn't a note for him, but something for everyone. I just find it impressive.
    • Praeclarus is awesome. That is all.

If you feel there is something wrong with your stats, please speak up. While I am a model of absolute egotistical perfection, it is possible that someone else (me) has provided me with false information. Please bring it to the attention of your local GM Team member, and we'll see to it that the person responsible is given with fluffy pillows and a free massage. And also that the stats are corrected.

PROVIDE CLICKABLE LINK EVIDENCE to your claims, or by golly, I will pun. I will pun so hard.
Wow. All caps for my name. This must be serious.
