    Default The Return of JL8

There was quite a bit of chatter over the exceedingly cute and clever JL8 comic, but Yale had to take a break for the Convention tours. Well, it's back!

    Justice League 8

When we last saw Our Heroes, Hal Jordan had just realized that J'on was not a prize to show off, Bigfoot was real, and that there is nothing better than the forgiveness of a friend.

Now on to Bruce, and his date with the ever lovely Karen.

Boy would it suck to be the guy who tried to break into that house in the middle of the night.

Do you? I'm not really fond of her myself.

She's the opposite of fond of Bruce but she's accepting this date because of ponies.
Even if Diana told her it would be bad (#162).
She seems a little rude toward her mother and is a bully for kids in neighbouring.

What do you like in her again?

Keeping in mind the kids in the neighbor hood were all over Alfred and his car. I understand curiosity and all, but it's generally regarded as bad form to be getting that up close and personal with out permission and in fact in spite of clear signs that you should not be doing so from the adult. And that this is when she has them back off. She doesn't hurt them or use powers or the like, she just tells them, using an "I mean business" tone of voice, to stop, using jargon there gonna understand.

Remember also when John was getting physically abused, she was right there to step in and come to his rescue along side Diana. And while she's not handled the crush thing with Bruce particularly well, she's 8, I don't expect any of them to be handling that sort of stuff particularly well if at all. that's the age were if your handling it at all your doing it wrong as if not more often then your doing it right so that you can learn the difference, how to tell the difference, and the in's and out's of doing it wrong as best as your able, so that later in life you'll have that practice and experience to pull form when it's gonna matter more that you get it right.

And being a bit upset cause of a misunderstanding caused of the exact phrase used by her mother isn't particularly rude. It's not like she had a protracted thing with her about it or anything. If anything, I kinda wonder if many her mother didn't use that phrase deliberately just to play with her a bit cause she knows Karen's going through a serious "Horsie!" phase right now. And it's not like we don't know that Karen's mom has no issues at all laying down the law when she feels it is appropriate for her to do so.

Also, Karen's kinda comedy gold. So, there's that.

That ended less... painful than I expected.

I really like Clark’s concern that Dana actually might try to hit the guy. Understandable, considering how much he provoked her.
    Also very Clark Kent.

The reactions of the other kids are pretty good too. I would worry for my life too in that situation.

This seemed to be the first group of 'normal' kids we've seen, then the bully kid here busts out some sort of lightning powers. So I'm left wondering what abilities the rest of the baseball-players have.

I thought the lightning stuff was just a bit of cartoon-style artistic license, not something that actually happened. I guess in a comic like this that's not necessarily the case... but if this kid has superpowers too, then I'm not sure why he was so skeptical about Clark ignoring a baseball to the head.

I took it as atristic license too. Besides, I think there were normal kids at Diana's party. I might be mis-remembering though. Bruce, Joker, and Lex are all "normal" too.

Okay, technically they're not superhumans...but they're still specific heroes/villains, so I worded my comment poorly even if I wouldn't count them as 'normal'. If the lightning was just artistic license, I can see that, but it would be the first time something like that had been used, so in the absence of precedence i assumed he was calling up a small lightning storm somehow.

Sky in first panel is an artistic license

Even if that kid has powers, you might consider that JL8 is about interactions between superkids. It does not mean that everyone is special is that universe, just that we're focusing on them.

Clark should go after that ball. It is gonna land somewhere, and that location may actually be someone, who would be in for quite an unpleasant surprise.

If he has powers, they're street-level powers. Compared to Superman, he might as well be normal.

There's actually little chance for the ball to reach orbit.

I suck at physics, but I suppose that enough strength to give to the baseball the initial velocity it needs to reach orbit would have break the bat and... the baseball.
Without additional propulsion, the ball will very quickly lose velocity because of friction.

It won't fall back though, because if Diana hit hard enough, and I guess she did, the baseball will burn before reaching top height.

That being said, the baseball could hit a plane.
