Or they might just re-appropriate the name for something funny yet confusing. Or they expect the First Order to be in Rogue One (which doesn't seem unlikely), or they already have some ideas about how they want to use the first order when they eventually get to those movies and wanted to start setting things up, or... After all, their main plot is still based around an insignificant orb seen ones at the end of episode 1, I'm not drawing too many conclusions about how they're going to use this word from here on in yet.

Didn't they say something back when SW:TFA came out about how no one would believe what they'd had planned for Endor wasn't based on the movie? Maybe they had decided on the First Order name way back, and it just happened to overlap. That it might overlap well is even better.

I remember being very disappointed in how 2-dimentional and unrealistic the space battle looked during this scene. It seemed as if the rebels were only trapped in two dimensions, not three.

By the script, they are only trapped in two-dimensions. Heck, later in the movie they're just held with the DS2 on one side and the Star Destroyers on the other side, so the flanks are as wide open as the Z axis was before.

Sometimes I wonder how much I am missing gaming without minis. (When I need to represent characters on a tactical board, I just take pieces from random board games without regard to whether they look like the characters they represent. Verbal descriptions are more versatile than sculpted minis, IMO. )
