Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
I'm not. I've long since left to all intents and purposes but I intend to complete the Dark Sun stuff and eventually leave it behind as a full-stop. Managed to get back in the saddle, get organised and grind out the Flim-Flam section. I suspect my work will be far lower quality than the original run of sections but I'm going to do it anyway.
There is no ETA.

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
Years of visiting my island home where relatives only have gas stoves introduced me to the concept of controlled fires. :3
This just screams Shadowrun to me. Dark noir rain on a grimy city street of lights with a strange fantastical creature blended together like peanut butter and chocolate? Oh yeah. I got the Bladerunner soundtrack in my head now.
"She slithered into my office, a dame like any other even if her lower half was more snake than horse. She had piercing blue eyes from the cybermods installed, but my commlink flickered only a green light. She was clean, no bugs. Dear Luna I hated bugs. Damn things eat your friend and then replicate their looks and mannerisms. All it took was lowering your guard once and you were dinner. Speaking of, my guard was still up, for this dame had the look most ponies do when they've been startled by a bug..."Last edited by DigoDragon; 2015-09-02 at 06:54 AM.

Indeed, Bleakbane, please do. If you do a seperate thread remember to announce it here or I'll probably miss it (Ponythread is just about the only thread I frequent these days...)
Also, another vote for My Little Pony XC-OM: Enemy Un-pone - you can always get me on bad puns.Warning: This posting may contain wit, wisdom, pathos, irony, satire, sarcasm and puns. And traces of nut.

Will do then; though it's a long way off yet; end of November, actually. (There's a LOT or prep-work going into this, like I said...!)

Fair enough with most of that, but I believe the Commodore hangs out on a fortified space station elsewhere.

I'll be going to Equestria LA (EQLA) this weekend. I will miss the Friday stuff due to work (Boo, hiss, the life of a wage slave), but I will be there for both Saturday and Sunday. Anyone else going?

Unless teleportation is invented within the next 24 hours, I'm probably not going to be seen on the other side of the country. :3
A shame too. I got friends over on that planet who could hook me up with some meals.
So, my long weekend will be spent just lazying around and drawing ponies.
This is sooo like my daughter:

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
That's a matter of interpritation
Besides, I'm talking about how one hypothetical being would take an individual epic lich.
Not how I would personally take on AoTRS. Even if I were inclined to attack you, Bleakbane, which I'm not, I would not be stupid enough to explain how I'd attack the Bleak Despair while you right here.
What kind of idiot do you take me for, honestly?I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
I'm using it as a generic term, though even with the strict 3.X spell there are ways to make it bigger.
Of course, I've already shared my opinion that a Lich who lets people know he's a lich, or wholes himself up in a dungeon, or does any of the generic badguy stuff is already doing immortality wrong.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
I know, I was just making two unrelated observations.
Anti-magic, for that matter, if powerful enough, would go a long way to ruin the day of almost any magic-heavy creature's day, from dragons to ponies to extraplanars to demigods to deities. (And stock-issue 3.x D&D fighters.)
(On the other hand, we are aware of casters of sufficient power that simply ignore antimagic - and more concerningly, null magic areas. As in "does nto affect them even slightly." We avoid tangling with those casters.)
It's not wrong as long as you're not dead.
You might make similar observations about any creature; dragons for example. (Which makes that first clause kind of offensive if you think about it.)
But for every such creature defeated by a band of adventurers or heroes, there are as many, if not more, bands that fail and die who do not kill the creature, and are virtually forgotten and unrecorded. RPGs and fiction are observer biased, after all.
It might not always be true to say history is written by the winners - but is far more accurate to say history is written by the survivors.Last edited by Aotrs Commander; 2015-09-04 at 04:14 AM.

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
You? Who you? Me you? You me you?
This is a tangled mess of pronouns.
Spoiler
Can be modified however. In one 3.5 adventure, the party (on a flying castle) found a 5-foot cube that was an anti-magic field out to 30 feet. At some point the cube was dropped out of the flying castle... with the rogue... who couldn't get her ring of Feather Fall to work...
Spoiler
I find that the ruination of the magical entity's day is proportional to that entity's ego. Thus, there has yet to be more satisfaction found in my experience as a Dungeon Master than that time I killed the party's 19th level wizard with a fake anti-magic field.
Spoiler
Sometimes just just being a stock D&D fighter is it's own bad day. >.>

Re: My Little Pony LXXXIX: Ponythread Perfect! Yaks no Smash!
Unless you are completely Ageless, possesses perfect health, are innately impervious to most forms of harm, mystical or mundane, can not be sealed away, and posses a healing factor on par with Majin Buu's(For those who don't watch/read/care about Dragon ball, well, imagine a being who can reconstitute their matter or regenerate destroyed matter unless you hit them with an energy attack strong enough to completely reduce the entirety of their being to sub atomic particles) and are immune to having your soul ripped out or destroyed, you are insufficiently immortal for the purposes of being able to not play things carefully. Even then, unless you posses an entirely non magical way of passing through solid mater, you can still be locked up somewhere you can't escape.
The whole purpose of becoming a lich is because you don't want to die. You might be an Epic Level Lich, but if you put your Phylactery in a dungeon, eventually adventurers are gonna find that dungeon and try to raid it for the phat lewts. and if you go out and try to overtly conquer the world/sell the souls of mortals to demons for power/other generic bad guy stuff, eventually a disgruntled mage or warrior will set out to defeat you.
Thus, preforming either action is essentially painting a big target on your back. Now, you might be smart enough to take the risk, might be strong enough to swat down anyone who opposes you, and might be cunning enough to make your Phylactery impossible to hide, but statistically, the longer you're around, the higher the chances that you'll eventually be destroyed, or sealed away somewhere, or locked up in a place you can't escape**. Thus, by making yourself a target, you are guaranteeing your eventual defeat.
So why take the risk? If you're immortal, you can easily afford to play the long game, take the time to build up your power base, and take over the world slowly and subtly
Thus, my insistence that a smart Lich uses illusion spells to pass for mortal, puts their Phylactery in a safe deposit box at a bank other than the one they uses(using spells as appropriate to protect it from being detected as magic), and then either keeps his head down and study's magic in peace, or uses charm spells, social manipulation, or money to manipulate local authorities into altering policy and law to his liking over the course of decades, depending on if they're after endless time to master magic or world domination, respectively(anyone who was only after immortality and doesn't have an evil plan is already keeping his head down)
(All Yous are referring to a generic hypothetical individual)
*Antimagic chains, tied up in a teleportation and plane shifting proof, temporally locked adamantine box, encased in concrete, and buried unlive 20 deep in the consecrated soil of a church or temple, with all records of the Lich's existance erased. entomb the box in a church/temple run cemetery, saw that the 20ft grave was the last request of an eccentric aristocrat. Lich Can't get out, no one knows they're there to dig them up. Doesn't matter if the good guys can't find the Phylactery now, does it?Last edited by Rater202; 2015-09-04 at 07:31 AM.
