I thought of that too-- it's odd that that line from Pearls song was repeated so much, so it's probably significant in some way. As for uncomfortable truths about the Gems, they've got a lot of those-- they're a spacefaring race designed to conquer other worlds, they're artificially grown in such a way that kills planets, they come from a society where it's impossible to rise above one's station and is OK with slavery, and so on.

Then I started speculating. The song in the original context was Pearl singing to Steven, maybe in this context it's actually The Cluster singing. I gather that Garnet and Peridot understand the fusion experiments differently. Garnet is disgusted when she sees gem shards stuck together and recognized that the shards were Crystal Gems once. Peridot says to Steven that the components of the the fusion experiments and The Cluster were artificially grown. While the Gems do keep stuff from Steven, Peridot is sort of an exception, she just sort of blurts out stuff that the Gems would rather she keep to herself, so I don't think she'd lie about the nature of what The Cluster is. Maybe there's a difference in what really happened and what was written in the reports the Peridot says that she read. As for what it means in the context of the song, maybe we'll find out about who the component shards of the cluster were, or maybe who or what they could've been.

Apparently all Gems can bubble as an inherent ability. On another note, I hope Jasper falling into the crevice isn't a way of removing her from the story for good, as that would feel *really* clumsy.
