    Default Iron Poet

Hey, we have a creative writing contest, and an avatar contest, why not a poem contest?

Rules, shamelessly stolen (for the most part) from Fat Daddy's Iron Author:

    1) Only the first 16 respondants expressing a desire to compete will be the contestants it is a first come, first served basis.

    2) The contest will consist of 4 rounds pitting 2 randomly determined authors against each other.

    3) Each matchup will be given a theme, subject, or other criteria to write on, and the poem submitted must match this as much as possible. Stricter following of prompts may help you win.

    4) The winner as determined by a panel of judges will advance to the next round.

    5) In case of a judge or judges not posting judgments in a timely manner, I will adjudicate and determine the winner.

    6) The stories will be limited to 1000 words with a 50 word minimum

    7) The entries will be poems. All forms of poetry are acceptable, as long as they meet the required word lengths. If your chosen style is too short, you are free to make two of them, i.e., you may make a limerick with 48 words, then add another limerick, still following the same theme, to reach the required word length.

    8) All posted deadlines will given in as much time zones as possible, as labeled.

    9) No late entries will be accepted. If you don't post or fail to post by the deadline, you will be disqualified.

    10) If your entry does not include the article(s) and the picture(s), you will be disqualified.

    11) The judgments are final. What the judges decide is how it is.

    12) The entries will only include content suitable for the Playground. The Giant is nice enough to share his Playground with us and we will respect his rules while playing here.

    13) I will rule on anything I have forgotten or needs clarification which is brought to my attention

    14) The contestants will have 1 week from the bracket posting to get their entries posted.

Once 16 people sign up, deadlines and brackets will be posted.

EDIT: Judges are also needed, as much as we can get. Odd numbers are needed for tiebreakers, so after five judges sign up the recruitment will be cut off.

But poetry is so much more experimental-friendly and variable then prose. I don't think you can effectively compare and judge them.
    that being said;
Umm, I might. Let me think about it.

Well hopefully we'll get experimental-friendly judges.

At it's worst, we can just have fun?

    Poetry Contest?
    Interesting. I may join.
    Hey! That's a haiku!

Just kidding. I'll probably write free verse, so that I don't need talent [goak here].

Again, in all seriousness, I'll join.

I don't think you can effectively compare and judge them.
Perhaps, but you can not deny that some poems are simply better than others. Plus, too much "experimentation" tends to get gimmicky.

At it's worst, we can just have fun?
Fun? But ziz iz aurt! Ve do nut hef "fun"!

Amotis, that is not exactly true, but a selection of judges the size of this board's entire membership would be required to give a fair assessment.

While I like judging, I'm too mean, and I like writing better.

You really can't "effectively compare and judge" prose, either. Come on, you've been in Iron Author, you know how it works. This will work just as well as IA, assuming it generates enough interest.

That said (in confidence that this cannot possibly start before Wednesday), I am in like Flint.

I'll put it in my sig, but that's about all I can think of.

Only 12 more to go (plus judges!)

Vaynor: you might want to consider sending out PMs to people you feel might be interested in judging, or at least people who wouldn't mind the responsibility. Either that, or set up a separate thread for recruiting judges, as Fat Daddy did when setting up past Iron Author competitions. You'll probably have more luck drawing out the needed people that way...

Well technically we have enough judges and an even number of participants (though V wanted 16)...but to tell you the truth; by the looks of who is involved in the contest I want to be a judge. But I want to write but I want a good balance of judges. I'm not nearly as qualified as I would like to be, however. And if I join to judge we need at least one more judge and one more contestant (to even it out).
