Oh, come on Grex, do you really think your boss would pull all the strings to bring the prisoner all the way here, just so you can beat him up and release your frustration about your special friend going away?

More disturbing, what if she is right?

No biggie. He's a lying self confessed scum. No one would believe anything he says. The important thing is Grex feeling better. I'm sure prisoner will later thank her for the special treatment.

No, the Folirtins are the canon hotties. Grex is a Adraxee, the canon criminals.

Maybe it's a test for Grex? See if she beats him up or stays calm? If she passes she proves herself he might commend her for officer career track, if not she beats up a guy he probably doesn't like. Win-win!

Just read the last year worth of Star Power.

Momma betting: Maybe it's Mookie's attempt to avoid the mistake that Rich Burlew made While commiting 15 much worse mistakes. Well, so far there has been no clue as to a possible reasons for Momma hate. With regards to OotS:
    - Momma is a horrible evil dictator
    - Momma is an undercover agent fighting a horrible evil dictator, so she left Danica and rotted in a prison until Danica paid 10.000 credits for ransom
    - Momma wanted Danica to become an illusionist something else (yes, we already had that)
    - Momma got herself killed by a fireproof troll wait that makes no sense.

    Hm, now for something original:
    - Momma is one of those Mommas who confesses to their children that in retrospective, she should never have gotten any children.
Yes, that is a common thing today. Such Moms do LOVE their children, but intellectually, they knew they could have had a better life, better career, more money, more fun, whatever. Only, it's extremely depressing for a kid to learn that their mother secretly regrets her life choice and wishes they don't exist. Danica's reaction to Momma's message fits; her entire psyche fits...

... Only, such a trivial story doesn't fit the genre, so let's hope this is not it.

Since every mission can take years, I'm guessing most of the crew changes every time.

I'm guessing the federation didn't send in their one exploration ship to fight the countess, so she was probably on a different ship.

It honestly feels more like they brought her for entertainment now. Seriously, when do we get to find out why they needed her along?

I don't follow the comic. I do follow this thread.

This leads into some oddities, like imagining everything in Mookie's artwork, and Danica is basically Luna in Snowsong's jumpsuit.
The name is "tonberrian", even when it begins a sentence. It's magic, I ain't gotta 'splain why.

Oh yeah, that thing. Just a thought here, but maybe you should have waited until this unknown update finished installing before sending your single most valuable weapon into the middle on nowhere? If this results in complications that could have been easily prevented, I'll probably cry.

OTOH, maybe the Federation wanted to get a potential Human Time Bomb as far away from their territory as possible before it went off

A better comic would not only have this be the prime motivation but it would be revealed that The Traveler crew had explicit orders to bug-out and/or neutralize Danica if things went sideways. That would return some drama between Danica and The Federation to the story.

It won't go in that direction. Update rate will get slower and slower. When Danica's update finally reaches 98% there'll be an error and the reboot will be started over. After 7 failed reboots Danica decides Windows NT old SP version is good enough. The End.

The next six pages after that continues to tell us about all the races we havent met yet in this section of the galaxy. After the new chapter starts 2 months from the ending of the last one, we find danica all of a sudden wondering about the vorp angel that got caught. She comes home only to see tall purple and lanky in an easily misunderstood position with said angel and we enjoy the hijinx of three chapters where she thinks they are an item.

Now lets see how she handles things. Will she at the very least mention it to the ship she is serving on? Or just run off in a panic because taking 30 seconds to say, "There is an emergency distress call at these coordinates connected to the star power, they need my help." requires actually thinking for a second?

But what if they say no? Better to sneak off and when she gets back she can say "Oh SP! I forgot.So-rry. " between bragging.

Anyone else think that this would work so much better if the plotlines were doubled up-better?

As cliched as it is, I can't help but think that it would have worked so much better to have Danica racing Countess Snaketongue to the location of the upgrade chamber-- because (A) if Snaketongue gets there first, Snaketongue can steal the upgrade and go all Star Powered on everyone's backside and, (B) there's a doomsday weapon locked away behind the upgrade. Danica has a confrontation with Snaketongue about their different ideals of power and emerges victorious-- but she can't stop the Doomsday weapon. The Sanctuary Six team succeed in finding a weak point, and Danica takes the weapon out (thus giving the security team and Danica a reason to bond and to work as a team in the future).

Danica accepts the upgrade... but is locked out of using her Star Power form while the upgrade installs/processes. (Because seriously, running a program or OS in the middle of an upgrade can be done, but it's a bad idea.)

Cue the whole mess with Black Hole Bill's revenge. Bill escapes and starts making trouble. Danica feels obligated to stop him even though she can't do so as a super-hero, and thus establishes that she's a hero in her own right independent of Mitch and the Star Power. For bonus points, make this a call-back. In the first issue or so, Danica refused to step in and stop something that she knew was wrong. Now she feels moral obligation to help regardless of whether she's got super-powers or not. It'd show character growth.

Once the upgrades are complete, Danica receives the ability to jump beyond the system using the ancient gates. The Federation is understandably spooked because they don't know what's out there, and the ones who built the gates also had this giant doomsday weapon sitting around in storage. Was the weapon for this system or some threat beyond the outer rim? They send Danica off to check out the outer system and send along this 'Traveler' ship as backup.

I dunno. I just felt the urge to rework this a bit because it seems like it could be done so much better than it is with just a bit more effort or foresight.

Supporting my theory that everything is designed to get rid of Danica.
First throwing her outside of the ship, and then sending her to a "distress call" that only she can get there on time.

I mean, what's the alternative? Believing in amazing coincidence that in less than a day she got on the traveller, upgraded her software, and an emergency just happened that needed her far far away?

The way the captain smiles when Danica leaves makes me think that's rather plausible.
That face screams „Just as planned”.
All that's missing is holding her hands in that weird evil-genius/Mr. Burns position and actually saying it.
Or „Excellent” if she emulates Monty.

Considering the author, I'm actually 100% convinced that this is all a massive coincidence, and that the captain is just CoolTM and lets Danica go because we're supposed to like her.
