Descent into Darkness (IC)

Gredryn is known for violence, despair, and savagery. The lord of this city doesn't govern his people anymore and it further creates the chaos bestowed upon the city. Crime is high same with the death rates. The people are not trusting of strangers and downright violent when their needs are taken away. Travelers stay away from this city. Almost everyone in the world is aware of this city. The worst place to live. Almost the worst place to die.

The cities population is roughly fifteen hundred people and the only guards there are paid poorly for their job so no one ever takes the position. Law and order is gone but it might be possible to restore it. If someone has the will...

Ninleyn carefully started to tread within the city limits. He had seen several cities in his travels but this was different.

Ryul, where in the nine hells have you taken me.... He muttered softly under his breath.

He tried not to look too out of place but couldn't help but stare at everything. The chaos of the city seemed nearly overwhelming to a simple villager let alone a traveler.

Keep going boy, this city holds many secrets yet to be discovered. Ryul sounded almost happy for once.

A half-elf walks the streets in silince and awe. The dark atmosphere almost gave him an inviting felling, were it of for the filth, sentient and otherwise. The street was hardly light, but in his lowlight vison he saw many punks and brigards that would and likley were considering jumping him. He honestly wishes they would try, so he could give these dark street a beautiful splash of crimson.....

He had left most of his equipment and his horse out side the city, on some farm being cared for by those locals. They were told of his thing's were cared for they'd be rewarded in gold, but if damaged or "lost" then the payment would be in steel. He will recollect the when be had a safe place to stow them.

"now where would my good associate be? I'm sure someone here has been sent to escort me to him.....or perhaps he knows I have means of finding information on my own."

He spies some fair ladies in the distance.

Drake

Having just finished a thoroughly boring job protecting some crates for a shadowy 'buyer,' Drake is in the courtyard the better of the two taverns in town. After a filling lunch, he's leaning back and dozing in the afternoon sunlight.

Ibraim

The watchman patrols the city. He walks past an abandoned warehouse wondering when the last time someone brought business to Gredryn. It's the criminals. If there weren't so many, good people would come back. Ibraim rounds the corner, eyes open for trouble.

Shellshok stands at the top of the stairs, he looks over his shoulder to his room up the hallway.
No need to go in there, it serves no purpose except as a convenient place to be when someone whats to find you.

Right now he didn't want to be found, he wanted to find. He desire for killing had not been sated in days. The Cleric of Hextor had not come by since then.

Perhaps if he walked the streets he would find some petty lawbreaker and bring them to Justice. Justice being whatever plane their god would be to greet them.
Shell' liked divine Justice better than earthly Justice, as long as it was meted out to the lawbreaker in their own Hell, or Heaven.

Sending the faithful to their eternal reward was a job he could get used to.

Before he descends the stairs the Warforged Arcanist draws on the power of the Dryad spirit within him, "I need some of the power, let it flow woman."
The surge of Eldritch power was a feeling he would never tire of, it poured from his fingers and traced over his body, another surge of power and bright green light shown briefly in his eyes.

[The Hero]

Kaveh walking into a new city on his journey sees people looking at him like they wanted to hurt him. He drew his large Greataxe making it clear that if you messed with him pain will follow easier. This is made said pretty clear with his Minotaur horns and large build.

It had been three years since Jamgretor had entered the violent and savage city known as Gredryn. It was a place of despair where no good man would ever think of bringing their wears to be sold because of the filth that ran amok in the streets. In truth, this was one of the reasons Jamgretor had chosen the city, it was far away from his family, while also allowing him to show them in his own time he could bring law to the chaos of the world. This was to be his crucible, his true test to not only himself, but his parents as well that his way would bring peace to the world.

Getting a job in the city was easy enough, after all no one wanted to be a guard, the local lord had given up on controlling the populace which allowed chaos, crime, and death to rule in his wake. Even the pay was not worth it, Jamgretor had noticed when he first arrived in the city, it made it so the only guards who could earn a living were those who had their pockets filled for looking the other way. However he was new to the city at the time, a stranger, something not looked highly upon, and so he waited. Making friends in the assassin’s guild, for while they were criminals, they were of the lesser sort. They followed their own laws and kept their contracts, something he could respect in this diseased city.

However as Jamgretor looked out his simple window into the predawn darkness before the morning light he wondered if today would be the day he would be able to begin directing the city back on its dedicated course. He did not want to rule to be honest. Someone however had to take this city back from the fool who called himself lord before it burned itself to the ground in an implosion. And so getting up out of his simple bed in the temple of Hextor he called fourth a tub of water and began to wash the sins of the day before away from him so that he could enter this new day refreshed and clean of all guilt.

It was a tradition his family had done since the dawning of time, rising before the sun and washing their sins away so that when the sun’s light touched them they were as pure as its glow. A simple thing, but it held importance too Jamgretor as he finished and looked to Seagretor, his pet dog, and signaled for him to come over so he could clean him as well for the day ahead.

With their morning ritual done, Jamgretor retrieved Seagretor’s armor from its stand and with practiced ease, slipped the chain shirt barding onto the dog to protect him from harm. While it was far from as impressive as some of the barding he had seen in his life, it was enough for now. When the two were older he would get Seagretor a better suit should he continue to prove himself. None the less each link shined in its own right, for Jamgretor made sure each night before bed to polish and sharpen their armor and his flail.

When Seagretor was finished suiting up Jamgretor looked at him before pointing to the door, their signal for the dog to go get his food for the morning before they left while Jamgretor got ready. A light bark of affirmation escaped the dogs jaws before he used his giant paws to open the door and walk to the dining hall in the church. No one ever bothered Seagretor for they knew if the dog didn’t get them its master would for harming his companion, something a few petty criminals had tried to expose only to be killed in Jamgretor’s wrath.

“Hextor I know that you do not show favor on those who ask for your blessing so instead I ask you this. May I become your hand in this city and crush those who would break the law underneath my steely hands.” Jamgretor prayed out loud to his simple idol he kept in his room, one of the few items he kept for himself that did not serve a true purpose. With prayer’s done, there was only one thing that remained of his morning ritual as the soldier began the process of putting his armor on.

When he was younger, he and his brother used to help each other each morning this way the two knew that the other would be protected no matter what came at them, however over the past three years Jamgretor had come to learn how to put it on himself. He could not trust anyone like he had his brother in this city not to drive the knife in his back when his armor was off, and he wouldn’t make the mistake of giving them the chance either. With the suit of banned mail on, he slipped his heavy flail into his belt before strapping his shield to his back. Prepared for the day, Jamgretor lifted up his helm, placing it under his arm and looked up to the morning sun that had just become dawn and said allowed. While the day is long and the night is dark, may no one escape the law’s mark.” And with that he walked out of his room, closing the door behind him and locking it before heading down to the dining hall where no doubt Seagretor was already eating a raw steak.

Stomach filled, Jamgretor wasted no time as he placed his helm atop his head, and he and Seagretor walked out of the temple of Hextor, ready for the days work. When he arrived at the guard house he served in he was not surprised to see he was stuck with another one of the dirty guards on the force, however he remembered what he had been thinking ealier and decided that perhaps this was providence that had been shown to him. It was time to show that no one was above the law, and if his partner tried to break it this day he would fall to the law’s of the divine, for they were the first laws of man, and as such the most holy.

He would need help though if he wanted to do this, I am going to need Ibraim and Shell if I am to do this. No doubt I could have Darley set up the trap, however it is better if he is not seen involved unless it is after a trap is sprung, the other two are at least part of the force and loyal. Jamgretor told himself as he smiled to his partner and waved him over.“Louis I hope you don’t mind us taking this route today, I heard about some activity that might be going over in the east side and want to make sure Ibraim has enough support.” Jamgretor said to his partner trying to persuade him to go along with him for the harder detail.

This opening post is to show his morning ritual's and to show how he has felt these last three years and as to why he has not acted yet on taking down the city. Hope you all enjoy.

As Ninleyn ventured further into the city he saw a half-Minotaur being surrounded be a few dozen thugs clearly they didn't like his kind around here.

Darley headed over to the ladies down one street he walked past he saw a large group gathering clearly not to happy but Darley couldn't really tell why he had a higher priority in front of him.

Drake sleeping hears some faint mumbling around him if he wakes up he hears a few streets over.There the beast.

Ibraim and Shellshock you both run into Jamgretor and Louis who doesn't seem to be too happy being lead by Jamgretor and looks like he wants to be off somewhere else then walking with him as he states his opinion so "Sir (Because Jamgretor is a bit higher rank then him) I think I should be guarding the west sir of town today it seems especially dangerous today. When you both know that is been the same all day but it's pretty clear he wants to go somewhere. As Loius stopped talking waiting for Jamgretor to respond hopefully to let him go. You all hear shouting a bit faint from where you are but it's clear its from a lot of people.

Kaveh you are surrounded by a large group of thugs with a mob mentality are set on driving you out of this city either by force or mos likely just wanting to kill you there. Nobody looks like they are going to help you and the group is just continuing to grow in number.

Jamgretor was more then happy when he ran into Ibraim and Shellshock, sure he had an idea where Ibraim would be because of the guard posting, but Shellshock was a bit of a surprise to him to find so easily. "Louis I understand you think that the west side is more dangerous today, but do you hear that?" Jamgretor says with a bit of a smile on his face. " That sounds like action, meaning this side is far more dangerous, and we are close by, as officers of the law it is our duty to find out what this commotion is and either silence it and get people on their way, or deal with it by force. Ibraim, Shellshock hope the two of you are ready as seems we have a job to do." Jamgretor says looking to Seagretor and lifting his head up slightly, indicating he wanted his companion to find out where the sound was coming from and lead them. "Oh and Louis if you try anything stupid he will eat you. It's time the force starts enforcing the laws here." Jam says looking to his two friends to see if they agreed with what he had to say, he could talk more after the situation was taken care of, but for now he really needed to do his job.

As much as he was getting interested in these girls, Darley sighs and begins to keep an eye on the crowd. Any moment now this would get interesting, and if his hunch served him right.....Soon Jamgretor (or Jammy as he called him, both for short and because it amused him) would arrive and play the not-so-hero, swooshing in and trying to get this lot to stop lynching the cowman.

He does however plot out a plan of action..... While still engrossed in his current evil plan to get at least one of the fine ladies to take her clothes off......and more.

Drake

"Who's a monster, I'll show you..." Drake wakes up, and continues to hear voices. Finishing off the mug of ale next to him, he stands up, stretches, and goes to see what the fuss is about.

Shellshok smiles as he sees Jamgretor, he has that look. As if he smells chaos in the air and it needs to be dealt with swiftly and, with any luck, violently. He feels the Dryad within him wake up in anticipation.

“Morning, I am always ready, as you know, I assume we’re heading toward the noise. Noise is a good place to find lawbreakers, Yes?” Shell’ begins moving in the direction of the ruckus, He energizes the Eldritch Power within him, and fires off a Blast into the air, careful, regrettably, to avoid hitting anything living. “Well, everything is work’n this morning”

The Warforged approaches the group, looking for anyone being particularly unlawful.

Only a fool picks on a minotaur... with that though, Ninleyn carefully moved to the front of the crowd.

Almost as a force of habit, Ninleyn stood with this left foot forward and shifted his weight to the rear foot; changing his posture into the Punishing Stance.

He stick my hand up and swirl it a bit, so as to signal he's here and aware. We've worked together before and his "law bringing missions" are both satisfying and at least allow him to bleed the wicked mand desering more often than not. He didn't care at the end of the day who hecslew, but it was his preference that they were evil.men deserving to die by the blade and shadow.

He was bored anyway..... A chance to don the red was very appealing right now.......

As the group gets closer to Kaveh not like it he raised his Greataxe into the air and attacked the closer one to him. No hesitation. He still doesn't understand the concept of life yet so it doesn't bother him. But maybe it will make the others back off a little.

Loius looks like he is about to bolt then takes a look at the dog once more and stays. As Jamgretor, Shellshock, and Darley get closer to the group the half Minotaur began lashing out at the thugs obviously not liking being surrounded. His first swing cuts one of the thugs completely in half with his massive Greataxe making some of the thugs flee and a few more backup.

Ninleyn couldn't help but be impressed, one massive swing cut the would be thug into two pieces.

Watch his fighting style closely, he could be useful in our next meditation. Pure power, no finesse. Ryul sounded intrested in this new subject.

Darley stops in his tracks, amazed by the half minotaurs deadly attack. Bloody mist filled the air as crimson slashed all across. The women ran, but he has lost interest in favor to the fight that had now spilled the essence of life across the street. A drop hit his face.

"ohh.....finally.... Let the dance begin." he muses to himself as he wiped it off his face and runs it through his fingers. The other hand reached into his back pouch.... Drawing a very dark red cloth.

He afixed it to his face amid the chaos almost bas if it were a ceremony. Tying the cloth he felt it....the transiton.....the change from gent to cold killer....and his lust for blood now would be satisfied.

He ran around to Jamgretor to receive his suggest....orders.

“Ah, now this looks interesting, so which one? The Half Minotaur or the thugs?” He knows the dryad’s answer, the crowd would reap more bodies, but Shell’ has the long term to consider. Law or disorder, it made little difference to him, but the Guardsman had afforded him reasonably uninterrupted killing, and a good thing is not to be lightly cast aside.

The Warlock looks to the Cleric as Eldritch Power begins to form around his hands like a violet glove.

"Both," says Ibraim grimly. "They are all breaking the law. People and Minotaurs have understand they are not above the law." He directs his shadowy feline into their midst, as he follows Jam, Darley, and Shellshok into the fray. That should put a little fear into them.

Jamgretor nodded at Shellshock when he asked if they would be heading towards the noise. " I couldn't agree more, a friendly warning at first, however if things begin to turn ugly no mercy until all are subdued. If they continue to resist and attack us the death penalty." Jamgretor says plainly as he afixes his shield to his left arm and pulls out his heavy flail, preparing for the worst.

As Jamgretor watches the blast of energy escape megamans Shellshocks hand up into the sky he nods in understanding as he begins to move forward. It wasn't long until the group arrived at the scene and he couldn't help but notice Darley was there, not in the middle to be sure, but ready in the shadows as he gave his normal signal. Jamgretor tilted his shield slightly so that the rays of the sun would reflect onto Darley's hand, giving him confirmation to proceed as he watched the half Minotaur cut a man in two. " Seems like someone is going to have clean up crew, and here I was hoping for a quite day." Jamgretor said to someone who didn't know him almost coldly, but to those he considered close was a sign he was ready to disperse the law.

Seeing the situation unfold he looked to those with him as he began to place orders. "Darley when Shellshock fires a warning shoot into the air be prepared to attack anything that comes at us. Louis go around to flank, Shell mind releasing that energy into the air. Give them a warning to disperse before resorting to violence. As for the minotaur, should he attack show no mercy until he is subdued." Jamgretor says to his group as he looks down to his companion and pats him on the head before holding up his hand and pointing to himself. "Guard." a simple word, however to the trained warbeast Seagretor was it was a powerful command he would follow until the end.

Stepping forward from his group he stands 10ft. away from the crowd as he calls out, his voice projecting across the area. " All citivens return to your homes, the guards are here to take care of this problem. Do not try attack the creature for your own safety." Jamgretor says as he stands before all of them ready should any attack.

he contemplated using the shadows to summon the shadows to be his shield and protection, but he could always need that later...and he might not find this more than a slaughter.

he drew his sword, wickedly sharpened to the very point, and let it lay before him....ready to strike the next target to approach that which he was told to guard.

Ninleyn saw the the blast of energy, quickly grabbing his double scimitar from its holster on his back.

Boy, stand your ground and stay vigilant.

Ninleyn couldn't agree more. He carefully stepped off to the side the minotaur so he could watch the guards and the beast.

He didn't know their customs here but danger was a universal idea.

A thought ran through his mind, he must look strange here. An elf with a tattoo of a skull on his face welding an exotic weapon... he quickly pushed the thought out of his mind and focused back onto the situation at hand.

But seeing the seriousness they start drawing there weapons and splitting up to take out the beast and to show the guards there places.

Louis on the other hand charged toward not listening to what Jamgretor said looking like it was a he was going to get himself killed but stopping at the thugs he turns around smiling madly at Jamgretor Finally Jamgretor it's time for payback from how you treated me. Saying commands to the group of thugs he rallied them give them orders. About 20 of them head towards Jamgretor while the other ten tries to beat back the half Minotaur noticing there not in the best of spots right now. Four of them pulled out shields and surrounding the Minotaur half breed
