Actually that's about the best definition of a crush. Sometimes they just happen then you look back and can't figure it out yourself. I remember when I was much younger having crushes then now I look back and have no clue what I saw in them?

Now that I'm older I see a little more logic related to feelings and whatever. For a few reasons I do understand, you could consider these my crushes on the board (even though I'm married, but would never divorce my wife).

Saph, Talya, Serpentine, & SweetRein - Reasons? I like their posting styles, attention to the posters' intent, reasoning ability, and overall attitude I read in their posts. I wish my wife thought more like these gals!

With Castaras, at least, I think it's the "She's cool!" factor. I mean, I personally don't have a crush on her, 'cause that'd be rather creepy of me, but I heartily second the "she's cool" thing.

Well, I don't know about two of those, but I can honestly say that when I had been feeling at my worst, one of them did something that meant a lot to me.
Granted, she probably doesn't know what it was, but hey, she did it.
These three do a lot on the boards, that nobody else would. We gotta be truly thankful they're here.
I mean, hell, not every forum gets their own personal angels.

Honestly, I think it's just the pure "exposure" aspect, if you will. Those three are probably the females who post the most in Friendly Banter and SMBG.
Nothing against them, they clearly are great people, but the amount of posts they have is what I think sets them apart from the rest. People are more inclined to "like" someone they think they know better, so the more posts they see of them, the more they "like" them. I'm sure they are plenty of awesome females around who don't post as much.

Also, with Castaras and Ego, they are still in there teens. If you will look at the majority of guys who have posted crushes... You guest it, early-to-mid teens.

Of course, it would be relevant to consider; the 'exposure' effect may not be entirely unjustified.

I myself find some degree of social aptitude attractive, so someone willing to put themselves out there is more likely to catch my attention (although, as I've learned, forums are a poor place to judge such).

Also, if anybody's going to have a poking stick....I mean, c'mon.

I don't really have any playground crush....although for a while I had a tiny avvie-crush on Jibar's avatar.... It makes my mouth water for chocolate chip muffins... But I don't know if that counts because generally you don't want to eat your crush.
