That depends on whether in the McUniverse Rwanda is the 51st State.

Where are they? Given the national news, I'm guessing somewhere in the USA, but the weather map certainly doesn't look like it's for Cumberland Maryland. The weather man seems to be a callback to what was on this page, but the map is very different. The new weather map looks somewhat like it could be for West Coast of Florida or the Pacific Coast, but it doesn't match any place I can find very well.

I'm saddened mostly because it's a lost opportunity. She could have been appointed to the Supreme Court. Yes, I know there was a VP opening, but Hastings could have thrown just about anyone in there.

Missing out on the Judge Judy pun is a tragedy.

Possibly, but would YOU want to piss off McNinjaverse Judge Judy by appointing supreme court justice judy?
Man this thing was full of outdated stuff.

Clearly the only solution would be a Judge Judy grudge match.

Nah. The whole "he took the mask off and now he's dead to us forever" thing feels really forced. I'm expecting Hastings to subvert it at any moment.

I wouldn't say forced, it's been telegraphed since almost the beginning of the comic. It's irrational, but then that describes most of the traditions of a family of professional ninjas. I do expect that he'll be watching his family, even if he can't interact with them anymore.

You know, if you think about it, he didn't even need to take off the ninja mask. Just the labcoat. Then he'd look like any old ninja....

The idea of never taking the mask off is stupid in the first place. Just one of those things one has to roll with.

Well sure, but Doc has a history of ignoring stupid family traditions. It seems like a strange time to start falling in line when it would cost him seeing his family ever again.

That's why I think he'll be keeping an eye on them discreetly in some fashion. It's not a tradition that he would care about, but they do - not knowing what he looks like without his mask on is the last line of defense they can give him against his enemies, past or present or future. Even if he wanted to see them, they wouldn't want to see him because they care about him in their own deranged way.

I just can't see Doc never talking to them again. Especially Gordito and Dark Smoke Puncher since neither of them even buy into the tradition stuff. I can maybe see him not talking to his parents, but even that's a stretch. I guess we'll see over the next few updates.

I remember Mitzi saying that "Mr Father Of Her Sons" disappeared for years once, and she understood that he must had been alive and nearby because all her suitors died.

    ....

So Doc will kill all their physicians? XD

...What if he doctored in a ninja-y way, making sure none of them ever got sick, hence being, well, *DOCTOR MCNINJA.*

Maybe, but he would still have to find them first. Knowing Dan and Mitzi, I doubt they picked a place that would be easy to find. That's the silly part. They are so convinced that Doc wouldn't want to find them, they wouldn't have gone out of their way to help him do it. They would have told Hortense where they moved to when they invited her, but they wouldn't have even left a note behind for Doc to find.

No need for notes, when one of them is a precisely aimed demolition specialist!

The two things are connected! Think about it who would willingly wear a mask all the time? It is bound to be damn annoying. So the only way is to never let your children know an alternative! Now that he has experienced the exquisite feeling of not constantly wearing a mask, how could he go back?!?

On the other hand, their ninja masks are (if I remember right) placed on them at birth, and never removed (making them, at minimum, impossibly elastic by any real-world standard of materials). Plus, they can eat and even puke through the mask somehow. Whatever minor ninja magic/reality bending permits stuff like this might make the mask comfortable, because it'd be impossible to keep ninja kids from realizing an alternative exists without isolating them from society entirely and never encountering a non-masked person.
