    Default My Peeps Aren't Crunchy

    Well, it's July, and my Peeps aren't nearly crunchy. They're definitely a bit stale, but I certainly wouldn't call it any sort of improvement. I feel deceived!

    Well, in all fairness, Parson isn't from our Earth. Just a very similar one. To be OUR earth, the Parson-on-Earth segment would have had to be a photo montage, as detail level is one of the distinguishing features between different dimensions in the Erfworld multiverse.

    All I can say is that you're doing it wrong.

    Local temperature and humidity? Degree of sunlight exposure? Did you (as Parson probably did) accidentally fall asleep on them or leave them under a pile of rotting underwear?

    Humidity would play a huge part. It would force them to reach quantum staleness faster. Try keeping them in a dry cabinet at room temperature for a few months. Also consider experimenting with package quality: completely sealed, slight tear, or completely out of package.

    And let me know how they are.. I'm usually not a fan of peeps, but I'm also usually not a fan of coconut.. and then there's Monty Python..

    Like he said, quantum staleness. That implies an inherent degree of unpredictability.

    You need a July that's hotter and less humid.

    You probably didn't open them.

    According to the Peeps FAQ,

    Many Peepophiles prefer a certain degree of staleness to their Peeps, ranging from a slight stiffness, to downright hard and crunchy. This is somewhat of an acquired taste. This is normally accomplished either by letting them age naturally, or else leaving them exposed to air.
    The Peeps Links site is also a handy resource.

    Heh... here I did the same thing; should've known I wouldn't be the only one. :)

    Same result here -- peeps are still mostly chewy, but tougher. No luck getting a crunchy one.

    Having just read both of the links provided by rosebud, I now know more about peeps than any english man could easily explain.

    Maybe you could accelerate the process by sticking them in the oven? Though doing so might cause a moral conflict against the natural order of peephood (d)evolution...

    A Dessicator'd be your best bet here, I think. Although your peeps may end up tasting rather... chemical-ish. And poisonous.

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    I'm thinking food dehydrator.

    Also, I find the term "peepophiles" mildly disturbing. It conjures up images of...well, better that I don't describe them.

    The little bags of Sillica gel - you know, the ones that say "Do Not Eat" - that you find packed with many food products might work. As long as you don't, you know, eat them.
