The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
At the end of the Brick Awards, 63 strips were left with no votes whatsoever, after two entire tournaments. We're here to find the most ignored bricks of all time. Even the loneliest brick deserves our love. I give you the Ultra-Brick Awards.
The format is simple: The leftovers are piled together, randomly scooped up in groups of 10 (as much as possible), and ran through. In these rounds, vote for the strip that is your most-favorite! Please bold your votes, like this. We will then hold a small vote at the end to find out who was the best of the round (declared a Fools-Golden Brick), pile up the remaining leftovers, and repeat the process with as many rounds as it takes to get a defined no-vote champion. In the likely event that this ends with several strips that receive votes and none that have zero-votes, or we have four or fewer no-vote champions, all of them with the minimum count will be declared as Super-Bricks and a final vote of least-favorite, instead of a vote for most-favorite, among these Super-Bricks will determine the Ultra-Brick. So without further ado, I present to you the Ultra-Brick Awards:
This is Round 1 and in this round there are 63 bricks remaining. This round will consist of 6 votes, alternating between 11 and 10 strips each, and a final vote of 6. The lowest strip remaining is 72 and the highest strip remaining is 992.

Re: The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
Tough to choose from this batch. A lot of these have some good punchlines (#690, #519 and #874 in particular deserve honourable mentions), but the actual meat of the strips aren't particularly remarkable.
In the end, I'm torn between some good ol' Belkar action #219 and doombabies (#824).
I have to go with the doombabies this time I think. #824 it is.

108 for telling a story without dialogue. I know that sounds silly, but oh well, I can't think of any other way to say it.

I'm going with 690 for the especially deep Dune reference (not the obvious one, but the one from Belkar while reading the book).

690 Primarily for the cute joke in the last panel.

Wow, we're really stretching these comics to their limit. None of these are very strong IMHO. I'll have to go with 874, just for the foreshadowing of how vampires actually work.

Give me that Haley vs. Tsukiko hardcore action (even though the rest are equal quality, I just enjoyed this strip most for some reason). 519 it is.

I think 219, 438, 690, 815 and 824 all are fine strips. I'll go with 438. The gag may be a little silly, but I find the panel where Haley waves at Elan to be cute and sweet.

Re: The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
Definitely more of a struggle for me than the last one. Some have some interesting plot advancement, but tend to be "the one before the really interesting one". Few of them left lasting impressions, I guess from being overshadowed by nearby strips.
Except one: it's not the strongest joke, but Haley passing notes to Elan in the middle of the battle, and Hinjo being teacher got a chuckle, and certainly stuck in my memory, so I'll go with 438 as my favourite this round.Geez, what is it with that guy and needing to figure out all the fiddly little details?
I know, right? It's called "Suspension of Disbelief"...

Is this a damsel in distress trope revisited, if Elan gets caught once again in 770?

Re: The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
Oh, this was pretty hard: so many of these showcase Haley as pretty cool. I think I've narrowed these ones down to 5 favorites. Haley: Daring Brave Adventurer, number 108. Haley: Lethal Schoolgirl who Saves Her Boyfriend, number 438. Haley: Surviving Against all Odds, number 519. Haley: Telling Her Father to Shape Up, number 770. Haley: Well, This One's Actually About Elan, number 815. Huh, I wonder what it would be like to reframe all the strips to be about Haley.
Ultimately, though, #438: The Paladin is Your Pal was just really cute. I really liked it.Favorite sports:

#195, nice setup for what was, at the time, a surprising total change in the story's direction.

Re: The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
Hmm...
I like 195 for the silver dragon reference that only gets explained in the book. I love the punchline of 815. Also, I like how Geoff is reacting to being "released" in 815, since he was the one keeping them from escaping in the first place (but we didn't know that at the time). And I like 874.
Several of the others are sexual jokes that don't amuse me at all.
I think I have to go with 815, though.Last edited by 137beth; 2016-09-19 at 09:44 AM.

Re: The Ultra-Brick Awards. Round 1, Vote 2!
And voting is closed! After careful review, I like 815 - Close Call, the best. The meta-ness of the jokes just is exquisite, not to mention Ian. It's not enough to overthrow 438 - The Paladin is Your Pal, is the winner. None of these strips were bricked, so none move onto the next round, but I will log 108, 195, 519, and 770 as 1-votes, for the low-brick contigency plan as described in the original thread
