Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Durgan cautiously scans the tower and the hatch, wary of traps that might be designed to discourage flying invaders. If all seems safe, he'll try the door.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Tylwyn joins the dwarf at the top of the tower.
The trapdoor doees not seem to carry any nasty surprises. The defenders must have relied on conventional weaponry to deter flyers.
Durgan pulls it open, revealing the chamber below. The room is dark, lit only by the open trapdoor and the arrow slits placed at regular intervals all around the walls, while the eastern part of the chamber has collapsed. The wooden floor is bent and broken in places, and rocks are scattered all over the floor, but you do spot an undamaged staircase in the western end of the room, leading further downwards.
There's a wooden ladder leading from the trapdoor to the floor.
The whole building has a stale and damp smell to it.Last edited by Burnscar; 2016-12-11 at 05:41 AM.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Durgan calls down to Yi and Zhane. "Aye, a ladder and plenty of decay."
Durgan says a quick prayer to Abadar, then decends the ladder. Calling on his god's guidance, he searches the room below.
Spoiler: BookkeepingDurgan cast Guidance on himself.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Zhane appears perturbed by Yi's comments on the trickiness of casters. He hadn't considered that some people wouldn't trust the legendary precision of the wizards of old- and spends most of the conversation in a huff, patting out the sparks that dance off his flesh.
He comes to when the accord has been struck. With disdain all across his face, he'll try the unfortunately physical action of scaling the tower. (Not without some divination, though, of course.)
Spoiler: OOCZhane is using his Foresight ability, mapping out a hundred possible futures and a thousand possible routes up the crumbled spire. If he sees a fate he'd prefer, he'll ensure it comes to pass.
(basically, he rolls a flat d20 at the start of the round and can subsistute it for another roll (adding all the new one's modifiers) if he so chooses. Kinda like rerolls, if retools happened before the actual roll.)
Foresight: (1d20)[14]
Climb: (1d20-2)[4]
So, because he rolled a 14 and a 6, he substitutes the 14 in for a total result of 12. Prescience!

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
By the time he makes the top of the tower, he can feel his shirt sticking slightly to the bottom of his neck.
At one point, he gets an inclination that stepping on the obvious next stone would see him tumble to the bottom, causing a minor collapse of the precarious placement of the rubble, which would have been bad.
Luckily, Zhane is no mere mortal, and so has a chance to pick another stone to step on. The rest of his climb passes uneventfully.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Durgan clambers down the old ladder to the room below. Looking around, he finds an old wooden table and two matching chairs. There might have been more furniture here once, but if there was, it has been lost when the better half of this room collapsed.

After stumbling the first few feet up, Yi said to himself, "Haven't had t'do this in years," before calling up, "Do ya think ya throw down a rope?"

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
"Don'a 'ave a rope. Lads?"
Durgan paces the room off, drawing his battle axe and his shield as he goes. "Now what were this fer?" he mutters to himself...
Spoiler: oocSo half the room collapsed? Down into the tower or out? Can I look down into the tower with my 60' darkvision?

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
The collapse is mainly downwards. But room doesn't end in a drop, as much as in a wall of rubble. You scaled the other side of it to get to the top of the tower.

Yi slapped his forehead, "'N you lot wanted t'go 'splorin? Lucky I have a coil then."
The swordsmen reached in his pack and threw the rope he had fished out from inside, "Here, tie this off n' throw it back, might also make for a good escape route, if'n need be."
Spoiler: OOCGonna throw my rope to the square that Tylwyn is occupying.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
As the rest of the group makes their way to the tower roof, Durgan moves forward to examine the stairs. He starts by peering down the stairs. He takes a good hard look at the staircase to make sure it'll be safe for the group, and when he is satisfied the stairs will hold, he begins to slowly move forward, listening carefully for signs of foes below.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
The stairs are made of stone and built into the side of the tower, winding their way down to the ground floor. You can tell that this is the ground floor, because you spot the door leading outside. It is barred by large chunks of fallen wall - it'll take a long time to get the door unbarred, and there's no guarantee that shifting the rubble won't bring more of it down on your heads.
You also spot an iron trapdoor on the floor, some pieces of smashed up furniture, and the bent and broken corpse of a kobold halfway buried in the collapse.

"Well, lads. Look clear 'ere but there's a door ta the basement downstairs. We want be usin' the front door, though. Best we take care ta not need ta beat a hasty retreat."
Spoiler: TimingIn whatever time the rest of the group needs to catch up, Durgan searches the area for other features of note, secret doors, whatever.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
The collapse obscures it, but Durgan does find something interesting on some of the rubble. One of the walls had a mural on it, depicting a large coat of arms, he believes. It involves some sort of black bird and some diagram of crossing lines, and he can make out a few of the words inscribed beneath.

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Yi hopped down ad dusted himself off, before looking around, "Now what do we have here?"
"Hmm," He knelt by the trapdoor, feeling the rung and giving it a few tugs, before standing up and pulling it back.
Spoiler: OOCI'm gonna assume that because it's an iron trapdoor it's gonna require a strength check

Re: A New Hope! [IC]
Zhane stumbles his way down the tower's guts, unwilling to burn more of his prescience and unable to cut an easy path without it.
He lands, brushes off his robes, and stares intently into the mural.
"Fascinating..."
