Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
I think it would be best to say "hey, I noticed that there has been an error in my paycheck since January (?). Could this be fixed to its normal state as it should be?" ... though I'm not entirely sure what kind of dynamics you got with the boss.

The longer you wait, the worse it's going to be, but you should be able to get it back if you keep at it. My mum was in roughly that situation for several years before she noticed, but the back pay came in eventually.

You ever find cuts/bruises you don't remember receiving? I just found a long scabbed-over cut on the outside of my right arm. I don't remember being cut.

Sometimes I do, but then again, I usually dismiss it quickly, as I live with a cat.
If you don't have a cat, it might be something worth keeping an eye out for if a pattern emerges. Just in case, if it's bleeding, sterilize it. But for the most part small things like that are benign, you'd remember if you had a major injury.P.Z. - gamer; friend; royalty. 'Tis a pleasure.

What concentration do you think would be necessary to kill a tardigrade with fluoroantimonic acid?

Sort of boggling.

Yeah, definitely do that as soon as possible. If you have an HR person of some kind, just let them know to check up on it. Even if it's your boss, same thing applies. We tend to act all squirrelly around the mention of money, like it's a taboo subject or something. But if you're owed something, you should definitely speak up. It's their mistake, after all.
Just last night I found a bruise and a scratch on my shin. Never noticed or felt it before. Went dancing last week... if it was from there surely I'd have noticed it by now. It happens sometimes.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Almost all of the snow here is gone, which is super nice! Though the slightly less nice thing is that the remaining snow will maybe melt by May... I wish it was all gone already.

Yay. Less snow is always good. (I'm a terrible Canadian, aren't I? )
I can ship you some rain to help melt it sooner. We have ample here...

Back in Denmark and soon to visit Sweden and Norway too. Definitely looking forward to seeing the latter two countries but I think I'm most excited just to be back in Denmark (even though the language when spoken continues to absolutely mystify me).

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Sounds like my city. Except it can be as low as an inch to shut things down. Mostly because our temperature likes hovering juuuuuuuuuust around freezing, so a thin layer of snow melts, then freezes, more falls, melts, freezes, falls... and so forth, until we get a lot of ice, covered by a thin deception of snow. But, yeah, a few inches of just plain snow shuts us down good, too.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Sounds exactly like this island but it doesn't even take an inch to shut everything including trains and airports down, and yet a minuscule amount of snow is to be expected at some point each and every Jan/Feb, but alas still not able to prepare for it.
but then again to be fair the unpreparedness does exist in Sweden as well especially in the south although there will be more snow there and also every single year to boot go figure.
The difference is the country does not shut down only the unprepared people drive into ditches as they did not change to winter tires yet.Last edited by Gnomvid; 2017-03-30 at 02:53 AM.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
But you said the reason yourself--"a miniscule amount of snow is to be expected". What's the point of spending a lot of money preparing for an event that, even in the worst winters, only lasts a few days and most often less? For the same reason we don't usually fit winter tyres on our cars in the UK, because our winters simply aren't bad enough to make the expense and hassle worthwhile. (And besides, it's fun to cruise happily past Mr. BMW Driver because your front-wheel drive Nissan Micra is handling the snow a lot better than his rear-wheel-drive bathtub with enormous wheels ).

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
There's no need to increase any expenditure the required means are already in place they are just not utilized correctly.
What really fascinates me is how learning how to handle slippery roads is not on the driving school curriculum, which is rather odd although ice covered roads are as you say limited to a few days/weeks depending on temp and how good the council is at grit salting, but considering the amount of water on the roads on this island which makes aquaplaning a very real danger all year round, especially with somewhat worn tires and yet next to nobody would know how to cope when it happens.Errare humanum est

As a little boy I saw snow for a couple of days in 1976.
It was a very big deal, I wonder if it will happen again in my lifetime?

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
I feel like driving on snow is at least 80% driver skill/patience/experience and only about 20% having the right vehicle. I've successfully driven home in a 30+ year old rear wheel drive minivan with poor weight distribution (not enough weight over the rear wheels) and all-season tires during several "surprise snow events" in which I saw plenty of other people with far more appropriate vehicles end up in ditches (around here, it seems like accurately forecasting snow is difficult, probably because it's a fairly slight temperature shift to make it rain instead and a fairly slight cloud pattern shift to not bring the moisture - I ended up driving home in an unexpected snow storm two years in a row, once starting in the middle of nowhere quite a ways from home on the freeway, and it was not fun either time). A lot of it is just driving like a boring person who is not in a hurry, and being very gradual as you try to speed up, slow down, or change direction.
The big problem here is that about once a decade we get a week-ish of snow on the ground after a storm, most winters we get one or two times where it snows and doesn't melt for a day or two, and some winters it doesn't snow at all. That makes it hard to plan and budget for snow removal since it's very different amounts needed in different years (it also makes it hard for the school districts to know how many snow days to budget for - we ended up having to add about a week to the end of the school year this year). We also get a lot of rain here so we crown the roads pretty aggressively to help the water run off, which means that when it is icy cars also tend to slide toward the gutters more than they would on a flatter road. This is just prioritizing the common over the rare when roadbuilding, but does make driving more difficult when it's slippery out.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
I know for a fact that the Micra is better in the snow than my last car (a Seat Toledo), even though the Toledo had traction control where the Micra does not, and I think the size of the wheels is a large factor there--the Toledo had wider, chunkier wheels than the Micra, so it tended to skid across the surface of the snow rather than cutting through to the gripper stuff underneath.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
My flatmate is now moving out of here (she graduated) and on Friday I came to the realisation that all of the small appliances as well as the kitchen table and chairs are hers. This began my frantic search for how much such things as microwaves and hoovers cost... and oh boy. This is going to be an expense.
Thankfully I found a used microwave for 15 euros on a sort of a gumtree/craigslist website (only for selling stuff and renting places). I think that's my most acute purchase since I need to heat up food. Doing so in the oven would waste so much energy.
... maybe I can get my dad buy me a hoover as an early birthday present... grumblemumble...Originally Posted by LaZodiac
