In the old days, they had to make do with muzzle loading blackpowder head cannons. Go far enough back, and they weren't even rifled.

If they can be aimed up they are headwitzers.

In Star Wars, if Tarkin hadn't died in the Battle of Yavin henwould eventually have replaced Darth Vader as Palpatine's apprentice. Tarkin didn't have Vader's talent with force magic, but I feel he had a better understanding of ruthlessness and evil. The ability to conjure up lightning and choke someone out from across the room isn't the power of the dark side, the true power of the dark side is the viciousness to do whatever it takes - no matter how horrible - in order to achieve your goals; to kill a billion hostages to get one prisoner to talk, to destroy your own resources to eliminate a rival, and so forth

That's rediculous, Tarkin was old. The emperor's been around for 20 years and Tarkin's been an officer of rank for all those. He's a lord of considerable territories. The man is neither interested in or capable of using the force.

Tarkin and Vader get along because they worked together in republic days, and they recognize eachother as competent.

Sidious uses Vader and Tarkin for different things. Vader is the nigh-instoppable enforcer with magic powers while Tarkin is the bureaucratic tyrant. They are not interchangeable. In a sense, though, Tarkin was already Sidious' apprentice: he tutoring him in politics.

Pokémon master is a title similar to Master of Science and Master of Arts. Ash is building a resumé to get him into a good University. And that's why he seeks so much advice from a professor.

(Even though it's my headcanon that Pokémon professors don't exist, they're dressed up relatives that hand out starters to kids that don't live near enough a gym to get a starter from them, which is why the "official" starters are so super rare. I'm not sure how to completely allow these head canons to coexist yet.)

Easy. Professor Oak actually is a professor, just of... I dunno, biology or something. The fact that he had close ties to the community was a happy coincidence and made him a natural choice, and explaining him as a Pokémon Professor is easier than explaining the study of biology to a 10 year old.

Oak is in academic disgrace because of his habit of handing out half-feral wild monsters to preteen children, hence his isolated life in Pallet Town.

I look on "Pokemon Master" as a sort of general mastery of the fields. Like, a general practitioner instead of a specialist though not quite the same. There are so many fields of pokemon study, from trainers, to breeders, to contests, to research. Ash is seeking to be considered an authority in all the areas. He doesnt just want to be the best pokemon trainer to ever exist (though its clear thats his primary focus) he wants to be an expert in any field related to pokemon.

I like the Game Theory idea that Pokemon Go is the first game chronologically and at some point in the future Team Valor will war against Teams Instinct and Mystic. Valor will ultimately lose which is why we do not see any Gym Leaders or Professors with Valor's mindset in the later games. And that this will be the great war that Lt Surge refers to in Pokemon Red and Blue.
If you find yourself watching Power Rangers and wonder how some characters got their powers and zords back for an anniversary episode, just assume they were restored off screen. They have 20+ seasons of team geniuses to call on.

You could be cynical about it and claim that he is actually a psychologist or sociologist and he's experimenting on how children develop if they are kicked out of the house at age ten with only half-feral monsters to keep them company.

But nobody else in their world has any problem with treating ten year olds as if they were actually sixteen or seventeen years old.

It reminds me a little of the insane politician from the movie Bananas: "...and furthermore all children under sixteen years old are now sixteen years old"

Yeah... Those were pretty good too... But did they have cyborg Schwarznegger piledriving xenomorphs next to a Predator performing shoryukens?

The arcade game simply set the bar too high!

That the proper pronunciation of drow rhymes with row and is intended for the pun drow-verpowered.

    That's not really headcanon.

I'm pretty sure that's just you inventing an entirely new narrative wholesale.

Wait, there's a difference? What degree of difference confers cromulence to headcanon?

I was under the impression, as explained by a few other people in this thread, in order for it to be headcanon it has to be feasible within the original narrative.

Exactly. "The prequel/sequel/original trilogies don't exist" will never be headcanon, ever.

How do unreliable narrator headcanons factor into that? Granted unreliable author narratives are a little different, those are still fun ways of reconsidering the motions of an established story.

I'm kind of amazed that we are policing the concept of headcanons now. "No that piece of unintended interpretation doesn't obey the rules!"

The whole concept of a headcanon is on par with old fashioned lit theory where we try to dissect the curtain colors for freudian analysis. It is for fun.
