She looks like Tai but acts like Faye, so depends how you want to call it. Again, talking about how Renee looked in that original comic, where she's basically a palette-swapped Tai. She filled out a lot in her later appearances and lost the glasses.

All the outlines are thicker than usual and Claire's glasses in that one panel look... unfinished.

Well, if you aren't feeling anything about the characters or the media youre consuming, it is almost be definition bad media. Renee is written to be somewhat offensive and unpleasant as a person. I'd find it more concerning if she had a huge fanbase who thought she was the most likeable character in the cast or something.

I disagree with your main thesis. I, and many other people, tend to be mostly detached from the fictional characters in works we enjoy. I have no real opinion about most of them. And this is including some of my favourite books, movies, and TV shows.

See, that's where i would disagree. Not that I'm saying she's a nice person, but the only time she's been actively offensive or unpleasant was toward a complete stranger who claimed to be taking care of her autistic friend after said friend had just been through a traumatic experience. Outside of that one instance, she's been no more abrasive than Faye on a good day.

That being said, she does have a habit of not thinking before she acts, but here (or whatever the yesterday equivalent of "here" is) she actually caught herself when she was about to make a mistake and nipped it, and instead of acknowledging what would normally be seen as a sign of character growth, certain elements still look for a way to make her out as some kind of villain, instead of a fairly short-sighted person.
