Tilly IS right though. While you or I might look on this as "not worth the effort" This is her job, to maximize everything she does. For an hour or two of effort, hannerlore may get herself a cheaper plan with a better phone that will last her the next year or so. Every scenario where "I dont want to put up a fuss" is another area where a small profit is lost and with it being her job to take care of these things, there is no problem with her doing it.

Where you just grab a coffee, she makes sure its made exactly how you want it, with a pretty bit of foam art on the top
Where you go to the nearest gas station to fill your car, she tracks down the best station to go to thats the most cost effective
If someone messes up your dinner order you get it exchanged and leave it at that. She gets the meal comped and ensures yours is perfect before bringing it to you.

Its a bunch of small things that make your life a little bit easier or better. She doesnt just keep track of appointments or whatever, as hannerlore said, she has apps that can handle that part, its her job to be a buffer between you and the world, making sure only the best reaches you while the rest is filtered out. Lets go back to appointments for a sec. You might make an appointment to go to the doctor, she makes sure the appointment is at the best time possible and that cute PA with the great bedside manner is the one who will take care of you. Little things that make your experience better.

Yes obviously, she still needs to learn the specifics of what hannelore wants. Its her first day. Nobody starts work at a new place already knowing everything about how it works.

Really? Constantly misunderstanding what someone else is trying to tell you because the plot demands it sounds like very poor fiction to me. It's an entire subset of the "idiot plot".

The conflict between a character whose entire motivation is "I want to be useful" against someone who's raison d'etre is "I want to be able to stand on my own two feet" is actually an interesting one, especially if they can find a comfortable middle ground.

Unfortunately, Jeph started with Tilly being obnoxious instead of focusing on that first.

That's honestly where I'm seeing this arc end up - I don't see Tilly sticking around otherwise. And I know Jeph is working on a plausible excuse to keep her around. (It fits with his MO regarding new QC characters)

I was adding to the thought with this new point that part of Hanners' goals is to be self sufficient, which I hadn't considered before. That is, would it be more important to her that her mother not have negative influence on her life, or would she rather she be the one to deal with her mother regardless of how that turns out?

Hardly the only possibility. Off the top of my head, they might be agendered, or maybe they favour removing all gendered pronouns as a means to foster greater equality, regardless of what gender they actually are.
