Our family's are ****ing garbage HT.

Also I feel like the entire point of the stapler story is the joke of WHY she stapled herself. She wanted to put up a poster with staples, but since the poster was ALREADY on her wall, with push pins, she decided to put the staple in "only a little bit" so she could move the poster underneath it so she could finish pushing the staple in. So she held up her hand to the wall, put the staplegun to her finger so she could use he finger to hold the staple up, and then stapled down.

She proceeds to yell for Dad to come into the room, "and don't laugh". He walks down to her room. After a brief moment we hear laughing and she just screams "I SAID DON'T LAUGH".

Aaah...good times. This is one of the nice and positive stories.

So, a lack of common sense rather than a deliberate attempt at self-harm? That does put a rather different spin on the story.

It does! Like with the pencil sharpener on the finger story, it's mostly just a funny story about my sister has no ****ing sense of self. She wanted to see what would happen if she put her finger in a pencil sharpener and pulled it. She did it once, looked at her horrible bleeding ripped off skin, and decided to then reset position and pull it again.

A pair of Swedish comic authors invented a fictional month between November and December called "Mörv". This wonderful new word perfectly encapsulates the worst aspects of November and December: grey clouds, minimal daylight, no snow, empty trees and recurring rainfall, combined with related occurrences like influenza, seasonal depression and end-of-semester stress. Uppsala right now is very mörv, and it's a sad sight for me who pretty much just came home from my ancestral farm, where there was thigh-deep snow, frequent snowfalls, white crowns on every tree and vast expanses of untouched, silent snowscapes. And the mighty snow fort me and little brother built on the frozen lake; two and a half metres high walls, an igloo-esque dungeon where your body temperature alone was enough to create perfect pack snow for snowball creation, and combat prooven in a somewhat extended snowball war between me and littlest brother.

And of course, there are photos.

    Spoiler: Ancestral Farm in Winter
    Show
    Lillstugan ("The Little House"):

    The garden:

The stable and the cowshed across the yard:

The stable is all frosted over...

The granary, with the barn and the wagon shed in the background:

Storstugan ("The Big House") from down the beach:

    The earth cellar:

    View south across the lake:

    North:

Birds! A great tit (with the porch windbreak as a background):

And a nuthatch. I love how sleek they are:

    Spoiler: Snow Fort!
    Show
View from the outside (with little brother (who is as tall as me) added for size comparison):

Looking into the foxhole with the dungeon entrance to the left:

    Look into the dungeon:

The (long) left corridor, picture taken from the dungeon entrance:

Here I'm sitting at the end of the left corridor, while little brother is sitting against the wall of the right alcove. We expanded the left corridor even futher in the following day, so that I and little brother could lie down with our head against each end and barely reach each other's toes.

Littlest brother spend his time building a short wall to "keep us out". He dubbed it "Börder Wåll" (technically, I added the "°"), I dubbed it "The Siege Works" (as a slightly obscure AoE2 reference). Here's a size comparison from afar:

I have a bunch of more pictures, but they all feature little brother in much more distinguishable detail, so I don't want to post them without his permission...

    ...
Just two days since I left it, and I already miss the snow...

That story reminds me of the time when I accidentally stapled my own figure years ago. I was freaking out, and my mother was freaking out too. She was looking for a "surgical kit" that she has for situations like this one. It felt like she was getting ready to perform surgery on my finger!

As my mother was making the preparations however, my little sister walks into the room, sees the staple in my finger, and casually pulls it out like it was nothing.

My mother and I were both stunned that my sister managed to get that staple out, that it slipped out so easily. Of course, we had a good laugh about it.

    And BTW, Happy New Years!

I once (while still a little kid) accidentally stapled my fingernail, and it didn't go in. Naturally, I assumed I had superpowers related to stopping staplers with my fingers. I tried to demonstrate.

I once accidentally stapled my fingernail. Then I tried to show off, and stapled to soft part of my finger.

I never stapled any part of my own body, but I *did* put a staple through a live mains cable to see what would happen (I was about 12 at the time). I am so very, very lucky that the staple shorted out the innards of the cable and blew the fuse before any of that delicious electricity had a chance to conduct through the metal stapler body and through me!

I am an electrician of 9 years and I must say that you are sooooooooo very lucky.

When I was a teenager I had a gigging pole that was falling and hen I tried to catch it, the end tang with a barbed head went through the fleshy part 0f my hand between the thumb and index finger.

The only clue I had for the year changing was the sound of loud bangs through Discord, but even then it didn't really phase since the bangs had been lingering on anyways for the past 4 days. Was kinda hilarious to suddenly check the time in the midst of a game session and go "Oh. Five past midnight. Ok."

I had such big dreams of "things I was going to accomplish over break". Either break needs to be longer, or I need to make lists with fewer things on them, because I feel like all I really did over break was "have (and recover from) Christmas". This happens basically every year and surprises me each year.

The students will be back at school tomorrow, so I suppose I should make sure I have things ready for them.

When I was quite little (I believe somewhere around 7, give or take a year), dad had a pair of LEDs soldered together which he would connect to a battery, put in a dark leather glove and put up in a tree in our garden as an "owl". I loved these, and I wanted to make them light too, so I put the ends into an electrical socket. Like you, I'm so very lucky I managed to connect to both electrodes in the socket, so that the power short-circuited and the fuse was blown, instead of hitting just one electrode and then accidentally touch the exposed metal pins.

The LEDs were completely toasted, though, and I remember I was devastaded by this. I think dad was quite shocked as well, but happy I was unharmed. He never made any replacement, though...

When I was little I tried to use a piece of foil to reflect heat from a night light to warm me. I was about 7ish like you two. the foil dropped and shorted between the hot and neutral and popped the fuse. Grandpa blew a fuse and I hid the evidence.

That's one thing you can't actually do in the UK--our sockets have a plastic shield inside them that covers the live and neutral holes, and you have to insert something in the earth socket in order to open the shield and put anything into them. Yes, you could jimmy that with a screwdriver or something, but you'd probably need three hands and a lot more smarts than the average 7 year old to do it!

for the record, my mishap with electrons occurred in the 1960's. if the US had any thing now to prevent shock hazards, it would not have been in effect back then.
Has any one seen my jar of anti-protons or my cyclotron of positrons?
