Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
It's more a problem of people not understanding that verbal sarcasm is different from written sarcasm, and trying to convey sarcasm in their posts as if they were speaking in a conversation. It's also worth noting that there are a few people who just don't understand sarcasm. I remember both times I had to read A Modest Proposal for school, both in high school and college, there were a few people in each class who thought it was a serious work
Of course, there are some complications with people saying stupid things just for the sake of trolling, and every now and then someone on the Internet just really is a complete idiot.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
Well, honestly, written sarcasm can be written as verbal sarcasm, as long as you make sure the majority of people will get it and/or you want to be confusing. Also, for some reason, YouTube emits a field which make sit impossible - impossible - to have people say something stupid enough people realise they're being sarcastic.

I now have a blog. Have a look if you wish. It contains those naughty profanities that you won't find here. If you like what you read send me a PM, or if you don't like it. I'd like to know how many people here read it.
Avatar done by me. If you want one then you clearly have no taste. I'll do one happily. You just have no taste.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
I just saw the funniest video! Anyone who likes Aqua Teen Hunger Force should check this out: it's the same brand of twisted humour. The video is about four minutes long and tells the story of a grouchy unicorn named Charlie on a "magical" quest with his two demented friends.
Don't worry, there's no foul language, excessive gore or sexuality.

I just left my stove on for 35 minutes. It resulted in creating a CLOUD of vapor in the kitchen. Also, the vapor condensed on the shelf over the stove. Now my kitchen is wet. I hope my parents don't come home soon xD

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
I'm eccentric?
Curly, I think that may just be one of the coolest compliments I've ever gotten. Makes me wish I was paying attention to RB a week ago to notice it.
So, you're saying sarcasm/irony is a mark of refinement, Death? While I'm not one to disparage the liberal use of literary techniques, those seem to be a bit too common to be called "refined" anymore. Refined would be the use of chiasmus. An inverted order is true sophistication.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
Irony is a refined form of humour. It works on the idea of sustained juxtaposition and requires an active awareness of the part of the watcher that there is *much* more going on in a situation that is apparent on the surface. It ain't prat-falls and pies to the face mate.
Sarcasm? That's just irony's beer-swilling idiot cousin.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
And yet people get the two mixed up all the time. Irony should walk around with a name tag: "Hi! I'm Irony! Not Sarcasm...please stop confusing us. It's very insulting to be called sarcastic when you're actually ironic."
On second thought, "I'm Irony" would make a great t-shirt.Last edited by ZombieRockStar; 2007-09-22 at 11:00 AM.

Wha...good description? Hell no! A good description is "Irony is stupid, and not funny, and nobody with half a brain thinks it makes any sense." Irony is never, ever funny.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
*ahem*
Hi, folks...Bor here to make a cameo. It's been MONTHS since I've dropped in on an RB thread. Gots me a questions, though, and though I'd come bug you "kids" with it.
Is it me, or does there seem to be many threads popping up on the FB zone that are more suited to RB? I expect a thread to be created under the assumption it's going to last numerous pages. Now I'm seeing nonsense like, "Laces, velcro, or loafers." Come on! What kind of debate/discussion do you expect from that? And what happens to such threads? They devolve into RB, which should go in this thread.
The problem, of course, is that THIS thread would then be chock-full of the nonsense out there. It wouldn't be the silliness that occurs in here; it would just be dumb. I just can't see which is dumber: starting an entire thread to find a metric converstion of feet to meters, or dumping every lunatic conversation on the regulars here?
*sigh*
Sorry...Felt the desire to rant and didn't want to start a useless thread that would only start trouble.
Nothing to see here. Move along, now. Move along."Goodnight, Rosebud."
Thanks to Lord Herman for the avatar!

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
Congrats, ER.
Incidentally, I was browsing through old RB threads and found this.
One year ago, tomorrow, I started posting in RB. Kinda scary to think about. I mean...in the last year, I fell in love because of this thread and I actually have memories attached to it...it's so weird.Remember when I had an avatar?

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
Wow. I'm ashamed to say that my second post ever was an indignant, knee-jerk reaction to somebody making fun of LARPers.
Of course, the fact that the board switch effed up all the punctuation doesn't help me look coherent in retrospect, either.

Re: FdL's Fuzzbox-Fueled Random Banter #88
We still love you Serp.
My first post was me proclaiming how cool it was to have translated all the cryptograms from the comic.
And I submit a new topic for discussion, pulling fire alarms in the dormitories* while others are sleeping. Not cool. I would be alseep right now if someone had not thought it would be funny to wake 60+ people up for no good reason.
*Dormitories is not quite the right word, but it's not exactly a tent either.
