Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
I think it's a reasonable question, if only in broad, small-talk terms.
For example, I do a lot of painting, and my favourite colour is, without question, Revill's water-based Burnished Gold. I certainly wouldn't use it if I were painting something neon green in a glossy paint because they don't go well together... But, in broad terms, Burnished Gold is still my favourite and I'm inclined to do projects where I can use it over those where I can't.
So in context, to use your example; if you were presented with an opportunity to use a knife for any reason you chose, which one would you like to use the most? Maybe a butterfly knife *is* more intimidating and efficient when it comes to shaking down those little apple-having kids, but you know what? You always prefer something with a longer edge and bit of heft to it and go for a Boey all the same.Last edited by Wraith; 2018-07-05 at 05:29 AM.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
Agreed - it is a perfectly functional conversation opener when at a loss of what to talk about (as seen in the comic). Just like "what is your favourite <anything>", it is a question without a single answer, and that is what makes it a good question. You are not going to offend anyone, everyone gets to have a different answer if they want, and can foster a good conversation, even if you end up talking about something else competely.

In Jamaica we have Pinch Bread, which is like Hard Dough bread but slightly softer and with a touch of sweetness. Of call that one my favorite.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
There's in-comic ship-teasing between Clinton and each of Emily, Elliot, Roko, and Brun. And unlike Marten, where he's being set up by Jeph with one person at a time (mostly), Clinton romantic tension ha so many people hooked that Jeph is milking it for all it's worth - as evidenced by how in the past five comics, there have been one subtle and two blatant ship-tease moments, each with a different person.

Soda bread CAN be kind of dry. It has a different texture than yeast bread, and if you're not prepared for it, that can be off-putting.

You I like. You have good taste.
...What is hard dough bread?
Not to mention, it is clear that Clinton is awkwardly trying to fill in silence, so he's reaching for questions. And after discussing his own, it would be strange not to express some sort of interest in what the other person does in some sense. Clinton isn't THAT bad!For all of your completely and utterly honest needs. Zaydos made, Tiefling approved.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
Ah, I see. So it wasn't one of those "wacky hi-jinks that were based on misunderstandings and amusing anecdotes like Marten's parents" divorces, but rather one of those "sort of based in real life trauma and emotional abuse" ones. I hate that kind.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
It's because shes on the autism spectrum, and since society tends to be biased against behaviors associated with the autism spectrum, and since the vast majority of people are part of society (nominally at least- I'm not sure how many people may have been literally raised by other animals), they've likely absorbed this bias subconsciously and never thought about it.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
Huh. I thought she was just awkward.
Through I'm more worried about a backlash against autistic characters not due to a subconscious bias of the behaviors associated with it, but due to many authors using it as a lazy way to garner interest, as opposed to either presenting it legitimately or just...Making a likable character sans labels.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
Heh, there's some truth to that. But aside from that, people this socially awkward can be difficult to deal with without invoking bias or subconscious prejudice. To me it's part of what makes her interesting and relate-able (I certainly can't really relate to threatening with weapons, even if it was retconned to a harpoon ), but consistently not responding as expected to social cues isn't the strangest thing to be annoyed by.

Re: Questionable Content 12: Artificial Unintelligence
More the latter than the former, IMO. She comes across less as a person on the autism spectrum and more like a flat stereotype of people on the autism spectrum - one of the reason it's a spectrum is the wide variance of individual behaviors that result, but Brun seems to variably have some or all of those widely diverse behaviors rolled into one.
