[In Transit -> Dyson Sphere]
"Cars? How crude." Hard to believe people used to use those death machines over teleportation, flight, or time compression.
Rein finds room by going to climb atop Kin. He's a small kitty. He ought to fit well enough somewhere on the giant snake lady.

Re: Starside
"Uhhhhhh-" Kin looks at the airlock.
Then back at her tail.
Then back at the airlock.
"I'm sure it'll be fine." She reassures herself, even as she makes her way into the airlock. She tries her best to stay out of the way, and just kind of take a corner and curl up on herself as much as she can, but she's still quite a large entity in the small airlock.
Probably at least a few people have to contend with her tail for space, but find that it's actually surprisingly cool, and almost soft to the touch. Her scales are definitely not sharp in the slightest.
Oh for sure there's space! Though as she realizes that it's Rein doing that, she lets loose a giggling sort of 'heeee~', and would looove to pat him on the head, but is trying to keep her arms pulled in fairly tight.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside
Dyson Sphere
Once everyone has squeezed into the airlock, the door behind them closes and the other one opens. A wave of warm, humid air rushes out of the passageway beyond, which is even more cramped than the airlock, like an air duct. "Breathable atmosphere, if a bit humid. We're all clear. Who wants to take point?" Hansen asks the group.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

There's some sort of building around the interior of the entry point, and they're inside it. How curious. Clearly not made for anyone as big as them - well, maybe for Reinholdt.
Yone does not volunteer to go first. Actually, she might be nudging cadet Hansen forward. If they're going to come along, surely they can handle this.

"Not it." Taking point is only slightly less terrible than taking rear, both positions usually fated to extreme and certain doom.
Besides, if he's in front people are liable to step on him by accident. His tail can only take so much abuse. Riding on someone's head is a far superior solution.

Re: Starside
"The rules are simple. Don't shoot first. We'll try negotiation before combat. That said, once a fight starts, feel free to go all in, short of piercing the outer hull of the station." At Yone's nudging, Hansen takes point, starting off down the corridor, although crawlspace might be more accurate.

Why worry so much about breaching the hull when the little ones all brought space suits? Guess it would make talking harder, and maybe it's for Kin's sake. She wasn't very clear on the mission at first, after all.
Yone lets the others go ahead, taking up the 'mostly likely to be picked off by a monster' position at the rear of the group, and frequently twisting to look over her shoulder as they move along.

Re: Starside
[Dyson Sphere]
"Do we have some sort of translation device? There's no guarantee any life forms we come across here speak Engli- I mean Common." Reinholdt asks. Diplomacy's great and all, but if they have to take courses at Tanagra to understand each other on a basic level, things might get complicated very quickly.
Then again, maybe they do speak the language because their civilization is built upon lost remnants of our own. Or something.
Reinholdt keeps a rifle ready just in case he has to act as a shoulder mounted turret.

Re: Starside
Kin blinks. Don't shoot first.
Don't shoot first?
Oh dear.
Oh no.
Kin would be appreciative if they didn't breach the hull. Since she missed the memo to get a suit, and it's woefully unlikely that there would be anything that would fit her anyway. So she's rather space suit-less at the moment.
"This is a good question. I very much doubt anything I speak will be useful. Do we have magic or tech to deal with that?" Either way, with that as a fresh concern, and the whole 'don't shoot first' rule, Kin is definitely slightly agitated. She takes out her agitation by flicking the safety of the pistol she picked off and then back on repeatedly, as her eyes dart around, looking at every corner and shadow.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside
Dyson Sphere
At the question of translation, Hansen holds out a cylindrical device. "Brain wave decoder. Should work on any intelligent creature with a brain, and many without. Don't actually worry about breaching the hull. It's thick enough that a nuclear weapon probably wouldn't do the job. We've been crawling through it this whole time. Hold up! Indigenous life-form!" He points ahead to what appears to be a kitten, if kittens have dark green fur and three eyes. It's curled up in a small nest made from dried vegetation, some sort of leaves and vines that don't look familiar to any of you. The "kitten" appears to be asleep. Just beyond it is a grate, ending the passage. Light shines in through it.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

How many times now have people left the Nexus to found a new civilization in the stars? Surely it makes sense to run back into them now and again. ((what? Basically never?))
"The interior looks meant to support life. At least around here."
That makes three (or four?) felines on this mission, out of six or seven individuals? Unlikely.
And any second now Kin is going to pick it up and say how cute it is (admittedly, it is extremely cute) and hopefully not get her arm bitten off.

"We should kill it now and save ourselves the misery," Reinholdt warns. "Felines can't be trusted." Cuteness is a hunting mechanism used to lure in unsuspecting prey.
Reinholdt climbs off Kin in case she does want to approach the green kitty though, keeping his weapon aimed just in case.Last edited by Reinholdt; 2018-03-27 at 01:03 AM.

Re: Starside
"Well. Okaaay." Kin obviously has some problems about that, but she leaves them unvoiced.
Well. They're not wrong. Kin absolutely would be running over, picking it up, and telling everyone how gosh darn cute this adorable kitty is. But something's holding her back.
Kin is definitely not approaching the thing at all. Though she does nod a few times in agreement. Felines can't be tru-wait.
If Rein is a feline. And saying felines can't be trusted. Then that statement can't be trusted.
Which means felines can be trusted.
Except that that would mean that they can be trusted, therefor cannot be trusted.
So Kin just blinks a few times, mind reeling from the implications of what Rein said, and does not approach the new cat.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside

The "kitten" is awakened by the discussion. It hisses at your party and slips out between the bars of the grate.
Hansen moves to the grate once it has gone. With a little effort, he forces it open and crawls through. "Wow!" his voice floats back into the passage. "Come look at this!"Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Well, who could refrain from doing as the cadet said and coming to look at what's beyond the grate?
Someone at the back of a crawlspace who doesn't want to squeeze past the others, is who.
"I hope it didn't have any idea what we were. Didn't look intelligent."
But what does that prove?
If the others head through the grate-covered opening, Yone will squeeze through after them.

Reinholdt tsks. "We'll regret that indecision later, Guaranteed." With a capital G.
Nothing to be done about it now though. Rein moves forward to where Hansen was and exits the grate to join him and take a look at what he's discovered.

Re: Starside
Kin mumbles something. For those with sharp ears, or anyone fairly close, the first bit is mumbled enough to be intelligible, but it at least ends with "-cliche *ding*".
Kin does follow, though it takes her a while. Mostly because she's just reaaaaally long, more than anything else.
"Oh absolutely. A hundred percent." Kin replies, before she also follows through.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside
Dyson Sphere
The duct exits into a corridor which is much more comfortably sized. Electric lights shine brightly down, almost like sunlight. The ground is oddly soft underfoot (or tail). This is because the walls and floor of the entire passageway is overgrown with alien plant life. Strange, green vines, almost four inches thick form the majority of the groundcover. Small shrublike plants with dagger-shaped leaves stand here and there like forgotten sentinels. The air is even more humid here, and you can hear the buzzing of insects coming from off to the right.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Well, this is better. Some space to stretch out, at least. Once the snake tail has finally finished slithering through.
"Surely this isn't supposed to be here." Yone comments, heading over to investigate the buzzing sounds. She doesn't like the look of those vines, but they're everywhere. What can be done?

Re: Starside

Reinholdt narrows his eyes, trying to figure out if Kin is being sarcastic or naive. He ignores it though in favor of the jungle-like atmosphere they've stumbled upon. "Well that's plants, animals, and... insects I believe. It just seems like a normal eco-system. Unless they're all one organism." That kitten was green after all.
Rein looks around for any passages that wouldn't require cutting vines to get through, but also follows Yone towards the buzzing. They'll probably get a better feel for the area or the ecosystem if they find whatever's causing the sound.

Re: Starside
Kin stays mostly silent. The little noise she does make is actually the rasp of metal on metal as she draws and prepares one of her rifles to fire. She does not trust this. Not at all.
She was actually being quite serious. She already wasn't sure about that . . . alien . . . cat. Thingy. It saw them and ran. Who knows what horrible terrors it might go find to bring towards them!Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside

Yone and Reinholdt will find that the buzzing sound is coming from a swarm of tiny insects which appear to be eating one of the vines.
Cadet Hansen is excitedly collecting samples of the native plant life.
There is a way forth that doesn't require you to cut through vines, which is a passageway leading to some sort of room about 100 meters away.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

"The probe would have to have gone that way." Yone says, indicating the pathway through the vines and starting down it. Tiny apparently herbivorous insects; fairly boring find.
"Looks like this whole place has been abandoned and overgrown, huh?"

"It's too early to say that. Our sample size is too small." It might just be a few rooms or a section that's abandoned and overgrown.
Reinholdt starts heading towards the next room, bouncing back and forth between left side and right side as he scans for threats.

Re: Starside
Dyson Sphere
Something clearly has Kin on edge. She keeps looking around. The tip few feet of her tail twitch and shake, in much a way a rattlesnake's would, though Kin lacks the correct kind of tail for that. Several moments she even twists around to face behind, as she keeps 'walking' forwards with everyone else. Kin's hands also never stray from her rifle; not scared by any means, but wary, paranoid, and absolutely convinced something is about to go wrong.
She really doesn't like it here.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Starside
Dyson Sphere
"We should probably keep moving. I don't see any wreckage here." Cadet Friin follows Reinholdt down the passage. Hansen reluctantly does the same.
The passage ends in a large room which must have once been an arboretum. A Grove of gnarled, twisted trees stands near the center, their branches bearing oblong orange fruit that seems to glow. The vines run up the walls toward the ceiling. A pair of huge lizards the size of cows are grazing on the vines which are on the floor, and nearby them, two rough tunnels into the ground can be seen. There are three exits from the room, two are at ground level, one of which is dark, its lights no longer working. The third exit is halfway up the wall of the room.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Sample size increases...though it would take forever to actually get a meaningful amount of the place surveyed.
Yone slinks into the overgrown arboretum and tries to pick one of the glowing fruits and examine it. She's not quite foolish enough to bite right in. She does keep an eye on the giant lizards. They seem placid enough, but who really knows?

"Oooh. Free food." Reinholdt says, salivating at the size of those giant pieces of meat. Maybe he'll get one to go on their way back out of here.
"I'll check upstairs." The cat's fur turns pink and the feline floats up to the exit halfway up the wall to get a quick glance, going to open any door that might block his vision.
