Ck2 the base game is permanently free on all platforms so far as i know, due to the release of CK3. It's the DLC that you have to pay for, and those are a doozy for all of them.

Reminds me of my first strategy game "Eastern Front", with updated graphics and possibly the ability to win the war was Germany on anything harder than the easiest learning level.
