SC's Kingdom Game: The Uncanny Valley

Tetro hisses at the man as she clutches the egg close holding her side and attempts to warp out of the man's range to a safe distance. Calling back over her shoulder through gritted teeth, to bandit with bloody sword "OYE!!! Hope ya get crushed to a bloody pulp by my mech friend." .

Eugene retrieves his axe and performs a tactical retreat up a tree while Lelouch barrels down on the hammer wielder. His swing goes wild and smashes an old log, filling the air with wood chips. Tetro snatches the egg that's roughly half her size and warps to relative safety.

The archer fires yet again at Lelouch and actually scores a hit but the arrow pings off the mech without even damaging the finish. The hammer wielder fairs better and lands a solid hit on the suit that is thankfully mitigated by the mech (7 total).

The swordsman sputters as he looks around for the disappearing kobold, and lets out a string of curses that makes you think he spent time around sailors. He rushes over below Tetro and stows his blade before beginning to climb the ridge after her.

Hammer time isn't looking great right now, but the other two are currently unhurt. Sword guy is mid climb and at a penalty to AC.

Eugene steadies himself on a branch and takes aim below, ready to throw his axe back into egg-man's face. He hopes with gravity on his side he holds a good chance of ending a third of the problem.

Thankful she was able to get to some safety, she leans over the ridge seeing the climbing man, unholstering her crossbow Tetro take's aim, gritting though her teeth, "Let's see how you like being hit with something sharp and pointy." Squeezing the trigger, a bolt goes flying down towards the man's head and shoulders.

Lelouch's back swing leaves a massive gash in the hammer wielder's gut. He drops his hammer and collapses to the ground, bleeding out. His head no longer where it was a moment ago, Eugene's axe sails by and embeds itself in the ground nearby.

Tetro's bolt just barely finds its mark on the climbing man, who clings to the small cliff, gritting his teeth.
"When I get my hands on you..." he trails off letting the threat dangle as he finishes pulling himself up and draws his blade again. The bolt sticking vertically out of his clavicle fouls his aim as badly as would be expected.

Not liking his chances, the archer fires at Lelouch again and falls back a bit. His retreat seemed to be more important than his aim though, as his arrow thuds into the ground only a few feat away.

"Oh sure, steal an egg and bring it back. Just in and out real quick. Easy money. Yeah, real friggin easy wasn't it Eobard!"

"Oh good." Eugene watches as eggman crumbles to the ground. He hops down from the tree, picking his throwing axe back up and looking off to the north. "Best we go and... help the lady then." He heads towards the cliff-side.

Smiling from inside his mech as his foe falls in front of him Lelouch immediately turns his attention to the man going after Tetro. Moving towards the ridge he realizes that he'd be able to swing and hit the man without having to climb as he raised his great axe and swung at the man.

"Yeah...about that...you gotta stay alive to catch me first...sooo good luck." leveling her crossbow again at the man she aims for his head and fires.

Lelouch's swing startles the swordsman, ruining his thrust at Tetro as he jumps out of the way. The force of the stroke sends a spray of dirt cascading into the air around the three near the ridge. Apparently Tetro wasn't expecting that either as her bolt spirals off into the distance, never to be seen again.

As Eugene gathers his axe he sees the bowman flee at top speed away from the fight and toward the Vespenalian border.

Eugene gets a running start before teleporting to Tetro's side. It takes some extra energy, but there was no time to waste climbing when his friends are in danger. As soon as he pops up on the cliff, he swings at the guy with his greataxe.

Lelouch quickly moves up to cliff edge. Seeing that the man is now trying to flee Lelouch quickly raises his greataxe and swings hoping this time to hit his mark

Between the sudden appearance of Eugene and the anger he had toward Tetro, the swordsman's guard was down for Lelouch's swing. The man finds himself neatly bisected and then finds nothing at all.

The away team is able to make it the rest of the way to the Farmer, uh...farm, without incident.

I'll have a short RP interlude at the farm up, hopefully sometime tomorrow. Just a little something to get to know the NPCs so you can figure how best to utilize them.

Assuming there's no stops along the way, the Away team makes it to the Farmer farm.

Arriving at midday, before you sprawls farmland, grazing animals in pastures, and several farmhouses and barns. In the fields a few of the workers notice your approach and one immediately heads off to a nearby barn. A short time later an older man exits the barn and walks up the path to meet you. He nods as he recognizes Eugene.

The man stops his approach when he's 30 feet from the party. He has a wide brimmed hat, sturdy looking and very stained overalls, and a plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. There's thick stubbly whiskers lining his jaw that's so white you can't guess the original color. He squints familiar blue eyes as he assesses the party.

"I thought you left boy? Didn't figure you'd be back so soon. I see you brought company too." He harrumphs. "Well, I suppose yer ma will be wantin' to see you. She's over in the milkin' shed."

Bravery smells the familiar air and runs off into the fields, excited to greet his family.

Eugene smiles, though not his usual enthusiastic smile, just something polite. "Hey there, Pa. These are some friends o' mine. I hope it's alright if we rest a bit, been walkin' for days. I uh... need to talk to Momma about somethin'. Mind if I escort my friends up to the house?"

Tetro's tail swishes about as she eyes the man, and keeps between Lelouch and Eugene, extending a claw she greets him with a half smile, "Pleasure, to meet cha, name's Tetro, and this lumbering tin can is Lelouch..." gesturing as she introduces him.

Lelouch opens up the face plate from inside his mech and looks down at the man before extending an arm of the mech out to greet him. Pleasure to meet you.

Over the many days which the others were gone, Luvon directed the others in creating simple communal structures. Or at least the plans for them; gathering materials was slow work. He figured they had enough for a basic frame of a small building about 20 feet square but nothing substantial or interesting. Only bare minimal functionality. At first he decided it be a material storehouse but decided that early mutiny and abandonment of the project by wet, overexposed workers would be detrimental in the long run. So it would be a communal bunk house, for the time being. Besides of which, they would utilize the majority of their materials in its construction in the first place.

Hapax worked more on the construction aspect than the planning. He liked to keep his hands busy, alternating between gathering materials and building with equal aplomb. Searching for foodstuffs was a bit trickier; he'd lived in cities most of his life, after all, but that went decently enough. He did miss Terto, though; Luvon's not the greatest conversationalist, and the rest of them were focused on work.

The man looks you over, his eyes resting on the giant egg for a moment. He gives a brief nod and shakes your offered hands with his own calloused one. "I'm William Farmer, Eugene's pa. This here's the family farm." He glares meaningfully at Eugene before continuing. "Y'all can look around, 'long as you don't scare the cows with that metal getup."

He gives Bravery a pat. "Well I'm off to chorin' unless you need anythin'."

The construction goes well thanks to good planning and pleasant weather. Pia and Diego seem proud to have some tangible progress, and even Mateo has been complaining less. You could even swear that you heard him whistling one day.

While out on a trip to collect more lumber, Hapax and Luvon stumble upon a couple wild sheep and a ram grazing in a valley. You're currently upwind of them, 120 ft away on a gently sloping hill, and they haven't noticed you.

Hapax turns to Luvon and whispers "Do you have anything helpful here? I'm not very stealthy, so they'd see me crawling up, and I tend to work better at close range."

Eugene lets out a little sigh, thankful that he didn't have to argue with his Pa in front of his new friends. Not yet anyway... Once he finds out the reason they came here, it might be a different story. Thankfully, he knew his Momma to be the reasonable one. He would talk to her first about his plans, especially if any of the younger ones wanted in.
"Well, uh, the main house is this way, friends." He walks on ahead towards the family home at the heart of the farmland. There are a few other, smaller homes that dot the many acres. Homes of his siblings that have started families of their own and a workhouse or two for the hired hands.

He walks up the porch and opens the front door of the manor house, too familiar with the place to knock but he does remove his hat and straighten his unruly brown hair.

"Momma? I'm home."

Hapax turns to Luvon and whispers "Do you have anything helpful here? I'm not very stealthy, so they'd see me crawling up, and I tend to work better at close range."

Best I have is forging some leads to lasso them; not much in the way of stealth either. Luvon gathered some foilage nearby, taking time to forge them into tough, interwoven fiber leads, ready to keep them on a short leash. If they can get them around their neck in the first place.

Once the tethers were made, Luvon set out constructing a simple neck-loop trap. All they'd have to do is guide the sheep through the path of the trap and they should snare them easily. Alright, Hapax, go startle them towards the trap.

Hapax nods. He forges a crude bow out of a nearby tree branch and creates some arrows before setting off to try and herd them towards the trap.

Tetro follows behind looking around a bit, it was her first time on a farm and it was not what she imagined. Tilting her head she looked up at Eugene, "soo...not to be a bother, but think I could use something to kind of patch up myself with..." as she gestures to the small cut on her side that had yet to be bandaged up.

Lelouch parks his mech just outside of the farm house's front door and hops out so as to not crack the hardwood floor. As Tetro asks her question, the back door opens and a woman walks in with her arms covered in a goo that you decide against trying to name. As she washes her hands in a nearby water basin, she looks up and smiles. "Eugene! You're back! Oh, and you brought friends." Her blue eyes beam. "Hello, I'm Lorana, Eugene's mother. I was just out in the milking shed helping birth a calf. She says as she dries her hands. Is something wrong? You seemed so determined to strike out on your own."

While you talk she almost unconsciously begins to heal the party's wounds.

With the trap set, Hapax circles the grazing animals. He fires arrows toward, but not at, the sheep. Using the arrow fire to corral and drive the sheep before him, Hapax manages to send all three in to the magnificently crafted snare of Luvon. They struggle against the ropes around their legs but they are too well secured.

All in all a success.

Luvon moved forward to secure the bindings around the animals' necks, before leading them back towards their fledgling empire. That wasn't so hard, was it Hapax?

Hapax lets his makeshift bow dissolve as he drops concentration. "Won't lie, that worked out way better than I thought it would. Let's get these back to the tower so we can butcher them."

Eugene nods at Tetro and smiles as his Mom starts to heal them all, then looks back at her.

"Aw, did little Maybelle finally have her first calf? Hope things went well..." He stands closer to Lorana, nearly close enough to whisper directly in her ear. He swallows nervously, his eyes darting from Lorana to the front door, as he tells her about the land they found and their plans to develop it.

" I don't like upsetting Pa, but... I think some of the others are just as eager as I am to have something new and excitin' in their life. Do think .. well... Do you think it'd be alright if I asked around? See if anybody is interested? And maybe keep Pa distracted while I do.. " His cheeks grow rosy as he looks timidly at her, gripping his hat to his chest. A ploy to win her over, no doubt.

Nodding in the direction of Eugene's mother, Lelouch inspects his mech for a little bit before joining up with Eugene and Tetro right as Eugene's mother starts healing up his friends. While Eugene and his mother continue their conversation Lelouch looks around the farm just taking in the tranquility of the farm while keeping an ear on the conversation. He felt it was best to let Eugene handle the talking for now.
