Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
It's funny... a lot of people hated Renee right away just for being in the comic. I didn't see any reason to hate her.
But the more we get to know here, the less I like her.It is one thing to suspend your disbelief. It is another thing entirely to hang it by the neck until dead.

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
Honestly I didn't mean it to be vitriolic. While 'hypocrite' seems to be her defining personality trait, it was meant to just be a weird glitch in the art I noticed - that she had stopped looking directly at him, unlike the other panels.
I mean, I'm all done for them to ogle each other all they like, but let's be honest; a Renee/Elliot relationship would be a disaster even if we didn't have to consider the fallout of the Brun/Elliot factor.~ CAUTION: May Contain Weasels ~

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
Or the Brun/Elliot/Clinton three way relationship. Love quadrangles are a lot harder to make work. /nod.
She is less hypocrite and more over protective of brun I think. Think of it this way, you are a mom or dad, and you spot someone checking out your daughter. It doesnt matter that she is of legal age, it doesnt matter that you check out plenty of women/men, that bothers you because its your kid. In fact I can see that being a future source of drama between them. She is over protective to a high degree. She actually does try not to be stifling but I can see her crossing a line with brun at some point. Sorta like the whole shirtless thing with her and eliott.Last edited by Traab; 2019-02-15 at 12:53 PM.

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
I may be trash, but at least I don't go around judging other people from on high like I'm any better than they are.
Back to the comic. I think I've noticed a pattern with Renee.
1)Renee does something kind of inappropriate or rude or some kind of double standard.
2)Readers call her out on it
3)Next page reveals It wasn't actually so bad because reasons.
4)problematic behavior never mentioned again.

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
I dunno, what about shirtless elliot? I mean, EVERYONE called her out on that, in comic and out. She had a reason for it but it was still a stupid and terrible thing to do. There was no "Aww thats not so bad" moment either iirc. It was just "Sorry for sexually harassing you" "S'ok" It may not be mentioned in comic again, but thats primarily because she hasnt done it again and harping on it isnt elliots style. I suspect the boss might bring it up at some random point if he wants to be snarky, but other than that, why mention it?

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
See, I haven't really hated Renee, but I decidedly dislike her, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. It's mostly just that, where other characters have their ups and downs, their peaks and valleys, Renee was only mildly bad times. Kinda pushy, kinda judgemental, and kinda skeevy at times, but I mean...hell, half the cast has at least one of those problems each, and usually worse than Renee. But they've also got those good moments that make the bad times worth bearing, while Renee...doesn't.
Well, didn't. The sequence with P-named ******* made her look better.

All I can think about (and it's VERY nit-picky, I know) is "That stack is way too big to only be 3k." Unless it's all in $20s. In which case, why did you bring all $20s?! Yeah, yeah, straps of money aren't drawn to scale, but I still find it amusing.

Well, it seems to be two separate stacks, so probably 1.5k each. If they are 20s that's 75 bills, so... I'm not American so I don't carry stacks of bills around and I have no idea how big those are.
Also, I guess good for Brun her hobby actually makes her money.

And then it turns out that it was Angus. And he visits people.
On an unrelated note, I was thinking about how different AI sex has become from how it was first described by Pintsize. He didn't even know the sex of his counterpart. Faye and Bubbles instead seem to simply have human sex.Originally Posted by J.R.R. Tolkien, 1955

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
And next strip we discover that Brun actually sold her left leg, and that she now has a pegleg. And then she bonds with Clinton, and we have a "but I a have a bionic hand, she has a pegleg" arc. And then Clinton sells his hand, and shares the money with the poor, so that many amputees buy themselves wooden peglegs. Clinton founds a monastery dedicated to Pegleginmas, a winter feast in which peglegs are given to the needy. But then the peglegged start changing. At first, they discover a feeling of communality among themselves. Later, they take on the mannerism of pirates. This spirals out of control as the fiction becomes reality, and many turn themselves to violence, plunder, and rioting. The city is in flames, and, inside the monastery, Clinton has a mental breakdown -- "HOW DID IT COME TO THIS?"

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
I assume that the buyer just got it from an ATM, or possibly went to the bank. You'll generally get the money in all twenties, because that's what most people use. I've only seen a handful of $50 bills in my life, and I don't think I've ever seen a $100. I find it totally plausible that the wad of money would be in $20 bills and also that size. In fact, it might even be a bit small if it's all in $20s.

Actually, that stack looks to be about the right size if it's all hundred dollar bills.

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
I would say a band of a hundred bills is roughly 1/4 the thickness of the average brick. She should have anywhere between 30 (if it's all $100s) and 150 (if it's all $20s) bills in total*, so anywhere around half tge thickness of a brick seems reasonable.
* Technically, she may have up to 300 bills if the buyer was sadistic/masochistic enough to pay in $10s. And no, I don't think any human would willingly want to handle $3000 in anything smaller than $10 bills.

Renee's hobbies include sexually harassing her coworkers, hooking up with racist morons, and jogging. She's in no position to criticise how others choose to spend their free time.

Re: Questionable Content 14: "I Deserve A Fancy Butt Emblem."
If anything renee should feel a bit guilty. Her push for brun to find a place to live clearly triggered a "Lets do it this instant" response and she sold her clock to have the money. She didnt INTEND for brun to do that, or even suggest she should but yeah. That was like the big positive thing for brun right after the place burned down and now she sold it.

Maybe Germany is just weird (well, I know it is but I'm talking about a certain topic now) but listening to Americans talking about their use of bank notes is always strange to me.
It seems like you constantly have to carry around large bundles of small bills to go trough everyday life.

Depends on where you're at, but in all but the most rural or remote-town areas, most business can be conducted electronically (for better or worse). The one exception is person-to-person transactions, which most people still can't do electronically and need to be done by cash or check.
The "wad of cash" is a combination of fictional shorthand and fictional subject matter.
First, in any visual medium, the "wad of cash" is easier to show than electronic transfers, and has all sorts of stuff attached to the image that makes for easier jokes, drama, etc.
Second, American pop media has a lot of intrigue, crime, capers, etc, all of which are going to feature cash more heavily. It is one thing to suspend your disbelief. It is another thing entirely to hang it by the neck until dead.
