O-Chul's harem sign up!
Let's face it, O-chul has to be the most eligible bachelor in OOTS. He's a hunky, scarred, thoughtful, intelligent, wise, considerate, caring, brave, determined, strong, chivalrous and decent silver fox with a heart of gold [*fans self*] So sign up here if you'd join his harem, whether upon his triumphant return home or when he gets rewarded in the afterlife!
If you don't want to join but want to discuss the awesomeness of O-chul, you're welcome to post here also!
*Signs!*

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
Wow.
After reading that description, I might possibly be the Michigan version of O-Chul. (More hair, 1 less scar.)

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
Almost ten years ago, yup! I figured it was well past time for the harem to have another recruitment drive. We all know O-Chul deserves it.
Why can't there be an Australian version? *Sigh*
Which board would that even go under?

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
Not one to join (though it is tempting...) but O-Chul is definitely one of the best paladins, no, characters in the strip.
When I homebrewed a bunch of MTG cards for all the paladins his was one I put extra thought into, and almost didn't include the ability for him to fall. But then, I imagine O-Chul's a powder keg of justice type: Not that he's seething with anger constantly, but that he would definitely sacrifice his paladinhood if he thought it was necessary for doing the right thing.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
I thought he was asexual...? In GDGU
SpoilerHe mentions he's unmarried and probably will remain that way
and we all know he's going to end up with Lien anyway.
Besides, he and MiTD can make their own one-person harem.

He does not seem like the sort of person who would want or participate in this sort of thing.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
And what language is that?
That doesn't imply asexuality! He even says 'probably' which doesn't indicate he's opposed to the idea, it just doesn't seem likely, which is perfectly reasonable considering he's a busy paladin in a dangerous world.
He still can! That's the whole point of the harem solution. Everyone wins!
One-person harem?
Don't be so sure! He's very much a not!samurai [the social class or the rpg one? Up to you to decide ] in not!Japan [What's a Japan??] and for most of Japan's history polygamy and concubinage were legal and popular. Plus, how could a chivalrous paladin make a whole bunch of women unhappy by refusing?
This!
Exactly! It's never the harem chasers that get one.

A one-person harem IS a dilemma.

So, Darth Paul, do you also have a best friend who may or may not be Godzilla?
And I suppose that, technically, I ought to be jealous of guys other than me getting harems. But yeah, he's earned it.Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
The exact quote from Good Deeds Gone Unpunished is
Spoiler: GDGUPAs Shojo is getting ready to explain the Secret Lore of the Sapphire Guard to O-Chul,
Shojo: You can’t even tell your spouse about this.
O-Chul: I am not married, and have no interest in such pursuits. I will gladly swear myself to secrecy.
It doesn't explicitly say he is asexual, but that seems to be the implication.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
Or, the implication is that he's so focused on being a paladin that he has no interest in romantic pursuits. That's such a common trope that I couldn't begin to list the instances of "career-driven man/woman unexpectedly finds love" examples there are out there. Granted, it's mostly a trope involving women, since our society seems to assume a female can't combine career and family.
For my money either interpretation is valid, it's the eye of the beholder.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
I've been ambivalent on the topic, but this is what convinced me that it isn't a comment on being asexual. It's a much deeper interpretation than "exactly what it says on the tin" and, frankly, more relevant to the overarching themes of the book than if it were some kind of token.
(Disclaimer: I haven't read my GDGU in a while so I can't remember the exact context of O-Chul's line.)This signature was written by me, Aveline, to indicate that this message was written by me, Aveline.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
Personally, I'm more inclined to believe that it's a hint towards his being asexual because O-Chul doesn't seem to be so single-mindedly devoted to his duties that he can't also maintain a close relationship with his mother, for example.

Re: O-Chul's harem sign up!
I can see why you read it that way, and indeed it might be the case, but I want to note, for the record, that this is a known "trope" of sorts, applying not to Paladins specifically, but to soldiers devoted to their cause: many soldiers feel that getting married is out of the question because their job means they can't be at their spouse's side for sometimes months at a time, and that is unfair to all involved. Such considerations don't apply to your parents, who once you are an adult, tend to accept that you aren't going to live with them daily from then on.
Or, as Billy Joel put it,
"he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the Navy
And probably will be for life"
It's hard, to be both a soldier and a family person - this is a central characterization, verging on trope, of many a career soldier in many different stories. It is only natural that some look at that trope and tell themselves "I'm not putting someone I love through that. It's not worth it", and choose to not form such attachments.
