Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
"No! No! I said port 6.5 degrees. Does that rock look small to you, Grimson? You let it put a hole the Sting and I'll use you to plug it! Clear!?"
Busy at the helm, Hannabel glances over her shoulder and favours Echo with a beaming smile in response. "Thank you, Master Kennoch. You're not totally useless yourself!"

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
To Ravia, 'I don't expect the Sting's former owners were the type to keep track of these things. Just do what you have to and send me the bill later.'
To Echo, 'Ah well, I always wanted to visit the Eastern Fringe.' Getting out of the warp alive was the main thing. Everything else could be worked out.
After assisting Ravia Anika will eventually show up on the bridge to get the auger working. 'Does anyone happen to know where we are?' She'll get someone more familiar with these things to work out their position based on the surrounding stars.

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
Hannabel swung the Sting around one of the larger asteroids, and had to trigger emergency thrusters to avoid another one hiding behind the first. The whole ship juddered violently as it altered course past the obstacle. Below, in engineering, Ravia stripped out and replaced damaged parts, directing the repair crews to work quickly and efficiently. The void shields came back online just in time to shunt another large boulder away from the ship, shimmering as they deflected the debris. Anike, meanwhile, fought with the sensors - they weren't cooperating, something about the debris field causing significant interference. The starfields were relatively familiar, so they were still in the Expanse somewhere, likely even somewhere between Viatrames and their destination at Solace Encarmine, but where exactly Anika couldn't say for certain.

"I don't know the system, but I know these stars, yer ladyship. We're definitely still in the Heathen Stars and we should be pretty close to Winterscale's Realm. If we can find out what planet we're near, there's a good chance we'll find a stable warp route to Solace Encarmine as well."

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
Kennoch quietly strolled around the bridge, looking over the shoulders of junior officers to see the findings on their screens. Hannabel's claim was pleasant--and slightly surprising--news, at least. But more immediately, Kennoch was curious about the nearby inhabited planet. Industrial society could mean other starships in the area--and other ships could mean trouble. The Sting might be dark and stealthy for the moment, but they weren't guaranteed to avoid notice forever. Echo preferred to find any fellow voidfarers before they found him.
He turned away from the others and stared at a blank section of bulkhead. The old, thick iron slowly gave way to shimmering energy in his vision. Peering back into the Warp so soon was a little frightening, but Kennoch reminded himself that he should be safe here in the Materium. And besides, he didn't have another option, did he?

Well done, everyone! Anika, can you raise anyone on the vox? It would be good to know where we actually are. And Ravia, now that we're not going to imminently die could you help the crew fix the Arboretum? There's some excellent specimens there that I'd hate to lose.

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
Kennoch, and shortly after, Anika, confirmed by separate means that they were the only voidship currently present in the system. There was plenty of vox chatter from the planet itself, though. None of it was aimed at space, but thaqt sort of thing tended to filter up anyways, and by drifting in closer they were able to pick up snatches of hundreds of conversations. Low level gang patter, encrypted military channels, administrative channels, everything and then some. The planet was alive with vox traffic... and not all that much else. The surface was a blasted wasteland of pitted rock where nothing grew, the only interruptions colossal edifices of metal that ground their way slowly across the surface on vast steel legs.
There was only one place like this in the Expanse, as far as any on board knew: this had to be war-torn Zayth, famous for manufacturing weaponry and hardened warriors.I used to do LP's. Currently archived here:

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
Being relatively new to the Expanse, Kennoch knew only the vaguest rumors of this hellish planet, and personally, he viewed it as more of a distraction than some prized destination. He nonetheless held back from contradicting Ravia for two reasons: first, the Adeptus Mechanicus would presumably be grateful for any roots they managed to put down, or conversely, any tech they could rip up. And more importantly, spending a few days in this system would give the Warp-storm time to pass before he tempted fate again.
"We may not find may not may not the same gentle reception same same same as on Viatrames as on," he pointed out sarcastically, "but I suppose suppose there is potential potential potential." Echo shrugged and looked to Macharius for his verdict. "Lord-Commander Lord-Commander Lord-Commander?""It was a GOOD plan, just completely impossible."

Macharius shakes his head. Hannabel, we have macrocannons on the ship. You can fire them if you want. We're not tarrying here longer than necessary. Ravia, can you get the ship operational, or will we need supplies from Zayth? Do they even have ship repair facilities?

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
++Shields are operational, the backflow into the Arboretum has caused more extensive cascade damage than first expected but its nothing to stop the ship over, just a lot of busy work in the irrigation electrics++
++While they are essentially ships on the ground i would expect that any means to repair us would involve the Sting becoming a static enity on the ground aswell and in that kind of war a static enity is inviting target++Thankyou to NEOPhyte for the Techpriest Engiseer

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
The work to repair the Arboretum was, Ravia estimated, only going to take a few more hours at most. It would take at least that long to reach Zayth, and with the Arboretum operational they would have little in terms of food supply issues. Making a quick stop for other supplies, or new equipment, was not out of the question, but was not likely to be required.

To Hannabel, 'I'll ask. Either they are mercenary enough that they might charge admission to let an outsider fire the gun, or it's some sort of holy relic and they would be offended to let an outsider use their machine.'
In between shopping will ask around about the cities and how the people of Zayth might feel about letting outsiders investigate their tech.

Re: Sea of Stars - IC II
The Sting made a brief stopover at Zayth, on her way towards the warp jump point for Solace Encarmine. Anika made a few general enquiries on the great war-walker they set down at, and was greeted with suspicion, though she did manage to avoid stepping on any political toes, or offending anyone, and after a brief negotiation they were allowed to resupply and purchase a few small items. Firing the macrocannons was out of the question; the engine clans didn't want any outsiders anywhere near the control rooms of their great vessel. With the ship resupplied, and no further immediate business, they took off again, and spent a quiet few days running on plasma drives out to the edge of the system. When the warp had, in Kennoch's estimation, quieted sufficiently to attempt the jump, they made transit. It was a nice change, after their last trip, to travel a stable route through the warp, and they arrived at their destination without further incident.
They were not the first to arrive. High orbit around Solace Encarmine was filled with ships, everything from tiny merchant scows to cruisers and larger. Calligos Winterscale's flagship, the Emperor's Vow, was the largest vessel present, and stood out immediately. Anika ran a few auspex sweeps, and Macharius picked out a few of the more well known traders present. Jonquin Saul was here, as was Sarvus Trask. Captain Jonell had not yet arrived, but his biggest rival had: The Refuge in Depravity, flagship of the Quinn Dynasty, was present with a pair of attendant escorts.
The Manticore's Sting was shortly greeted by a transimission with anchor coordinates for orbit, and a request to shuttle down to Winterscale's mansion to present their invitation.I used to do LP's. Currently archived here:

"Oooh! Look! Quinn's here as well! I think this shindig may end up just a bit awkwaaard!" Hannabel trills in delight when the auspexes pick out Quinn's flagship. "You want we should make him disappear while he's down there, Lord Captain?"
