Macharius had a big speech about it a while back but I don't remember if he passed a roll for it. My view is Guilliman is currently sitting in a stasis field on Macragge so the basics might be common knowledge.

You'd have to pass a really hard Forbidden Lore test to know what Magnus did exactly, but you know who he is. Ahriman has mentioned it, if nothing else. The names and deeds of the Loyalists are far more common knowledge but the specifics are still the domain of things like Scholastic Lore (Legend).

I don't suppose that would be a Forbidden Lore (Warp) test?

    FL (Warp) (71-Difficulty): (1d100)[45]

In any case, Kennoch is tentatively on board with Ahriman's plan, if nobody has a better one. Though it should go without saying that Echo plans to try to destroy the Engine and betray the Eldar too, if he sees an opportunity. And if he doesn't, he might pass word along to the kinds of Imperium agencies who could want to finish the job, assuming that the Astropaths don't do it for us.

Agreed. Forcing a xeno witch-engine to submit through the sheer power of the Emperor's might, manifest in one of His beloved Astartes? Macharius would suggest that as a solution to every problem if we had a space marine around more often.

If you want to convince the Eldar to work with you, you're going to need a good argument and a difficult Charm test, or something similar. They do not trust you. You're starting from -30, and the final modifier is going to depend a lot on how you pitch your case to them. If you want to roll relevant lore skills for some hints, you can also do that.

Obviously, Echo is no use for the actual negotiations, but if his knowledge of the Warp can help somehow, then I'm happy to make the Lore rolls. Otherwise he'll just try not to sabotage the rest of you too much with his literal xenophobia.

If that child could read, he'd be very upset! Really, the less Macharius knows the better, as with most things.

Aaand he crushes the charm test, even at -30. That's 6 DoS, I believe.

This is opposed by their WP, and the number of degrees of success you get is important here. Losing the Engine is bad, but getting corrupted is worse, and they do want you gone. It's a bit of a wash what they get out of this, so the -30 sticks. But Anika made some knowledge rolls. She'd be able to recall some times that humanity has worked with the Eldar in the past that went relatively well, and she'd be able to give Macharius advice on how to frame his argument based on what the Eldar value. She makes the charm test easier, and you end up with 7 degrees.

    So, some rolls from me:

Farseer: (1d100)[69] - the farseer fails, by one degree. You've hit upon his fears, it seems.
Spiritseer: (1d100)[31] - She passes, but only by one degree. You still improve her attitude a lot.
Bonesinger: (1d100)[5] - he passes by four, so you only improve his outlook three steps. That's enough that he doesn't care to oppose you, even if he doesn't strictly agree.

    Nice roll.

Who has two thumbs and likes ominous looking rooms? It's me, your GM. I also like Willpower checks! If you have anything that gives you a bonus against psychic effects, it very much applies here. Make rolls, everyone.

Well, except the Astropaths. They can't see.

Here's Ahriman's: (1d100)[79] - That's a failure. He gains some corruption points, and has to try again on his next turn.

...Are we responsible for the start of his corruption?

Can I maybe roll something to know a useful action to take, to either begin closing the gateway or keep us a bit safer while we wait for Ahriman to snap out of it? I assume that just opening fire won't help much at this point. We still need the Engine to function well enough to send us home.

Can Macharius just...Fellowship him so hard that he gets to reroll, perhaps? It's a bit shameful that all these weak modern humans have succeeded where he fails.

Thematically appropriate though, given who he is and what you're trying to stop him from turning into.

And sure, give me Forbidden Lore (Daemonology and/or Warp)

You can't use Command on him, because he's not technically under your authority. He recognises it, but his paradigm is a bit different from yours, and in his view Rogue Traders don't get direct command over anything the Emperor didn't specifically give them. Since he does recognise your authority though, I think you should be able to roll Charm to try and Inspire him. If you pass, he gets a bonus to his next WP test based on how many degrees of success you got.

Short version: You can't make him do anything, but you can inspire him to try harder at things he's already doing.
