My left thumb last night randomly started hurting. It is now swollen up, red, throbbing like heck, and sore all the way down to the knuckle. As I am left-handed, this presents something of a problem. I think it's infected.

They look like a pin pricks-They often swell up more than the other tissues-If there was subcutaneous bleeding tiny scabs are often visible through the outer layers of derma.

You shouldn't have SAD only in winter in Soggye Olde Eynglande; we never see the sun. BUt at least you have InkScape and GitP as well as sundry other things to occupy you. Try not to end up in hospital because of it, they don't like computers there so there's no GitP for you.
And I hear those lamps are very expensive. Very expensive.

It's not because of England, it's because I don't get out of the house very much. So I pretty much have it all year round.

shine lots of lights at yourself. Some people say it's a form of torture, but I don't beleive them. I say it's good for you. Puts hairs on your chest.

It is a bit gloomy at the moment, but soon it will be the crisp bright sunlight of late winter/spring. Just think of it. Skipping through the tarmaced streets, meeting tramps and degenerates as you go! What a wonderful and happy time of year.

I didn't think that the lamps were that expensive. You can get sunlight bulbs as well. They're pretty good and only double the price of regular lightbulbs.

I think I have that as well, on top of other things. On certain days, my mood can really fluctuate depending on light, food, sleep, and other things. On a cloudy day after very little food and sleep, I could just go around being grumpy, and prodding people with things for some small bit of sadistic enjoyment.

Normally I'm good. But "moody" has been word to describe me in the past.

My suggestion is to turn on every light you can when entering a room.

Ouch, that sucks that you already have it Bath. Have you tried any pharmacological or psychotherapeutic techniques to try and stop it from getting worse? Anyway, we can be Bipolar together, think of the fun times we'll have!

It's minor. It's more like slightly more exteme moods. The gloom just makes me a more snappy and sarcastic, whilst mania makes me jump around and do crazy things, not dangerous, but over-enthusiastic. I'm usually at least a bit manic though. It's not diagnosed, so it could just be personality, but there's the chance for it to get much worse.

No drugs for me. And it doesn't really kick in until something horrible happens, like death in close family. It's not that likely to get that much worse of its own accord, it's just something that may well happen.

I only have to look forward to likely getting Diabetes (both types run in my family. Oh, if I get that, I get to be high-risk for kidney failure if I don't take care of it) and high cancer risk. Yes, stupid genetics. No mental illnesses that I know of in my family.

yes, very high cancer risk for me, too. Also extremely high risk of heart disease (all the men on my mom's side until her father's generation died before the age of 65 of heart attacks...thank heavens for modern medicine), depression of various ilks, slight overweightness (hasn't affected me yet but...) and all sorts of other lovely stuff.
