Reminds me of a funny story I heard once - an American is traveling in Britain, and he talks to a guy in the hotel he's staying in. The man calls down the elevator and tells the American that "the lift will be down presently."

The American guy points out that it's sort of funny that the British call an elevator a "lift." After all, he says, we know what to call it. We invented the darn thing!

"Yes, sir," said the Brit. "But the language was invented here."

...it seems like a harmless joke until you realize the fact that that's a really bad argument. The fact remains that we chose a certain name for it, and you guys chose to use your own word.
