"An onyx?! And one of considerable value, to boot! Aye, I'd very much like to have the onyx, lads, if ye'd not be torn to part with it. I've been learning a spell that would make good use of it, and any others we may find."

a little bit disappointed by the lack of any visual effects from the ring Kabrakhan goes back to to his post at the caravan. He stares into the sky for some moments... then he mumbles some words and suddenly he have flamboyant green vest on the outside of his fur clothes.

Go for it, if it'll help your spells.

Onyx is commonly used in necromancy, usually to animate corpses.

Salos smiles at Nas. "Sorry, this wasn't our kind of fight. Y'know, fair and all. And it pays to make absolutely sure that dead things won't jump up and attack you." He discharges his crossbow bolt high into the air. Istasa and Grant stroll on opposite sides of the carriage, both seeming more relaxed now that the danger is gone, and Kagiso walks quickly behind it.

Salos expresses no preference regarding Bram's altitude. "The ground is flat enough that we can probably see things from a fair ways away in any case, and we didn't seem to require much preparation. You can do what you like, though."

The wagon continues on until it gets dark, Bram staying aloft and the others being entertained by Tom's conversation and sleight of hand. Salos is by far the most talkative, with Grant participating on occasion and the other two more or less silent (although Istasa's silence seems to come from reserve, while Kagiso's stems from something akin to disinterest). Grant's speech all seems slightly rhythmical, and he probably plans it that way, given the moment of concentration he takes before each sentence.

When night falls, Salos pulls on the reins and stops the cart. "Well, this seems to be as good a place to stop as any. Do any of you need a tent? We have more than we're likely to need."

    Tom

Tom offers to guard for one of the watches. But with Aldamir and Bram needing so little sleep his help is probably not needed. In any case he makes sure he knows who the watches are and what time their watch is. Then goes to his tent to get some sleep, asking to be woken up when his watch comes.

    Spoiler

That is if he is assigned to a watch, otherwise he will sleep the night and wake up early in the morning.

When Fashai is walking and not on watch, he looks around and decides to strike up a conversation with Grant. "Hello, there. I'm Fashai, if you don't remember. A swordsage by training, a gambler by inclination, though not a good one to tell the truth. I know Salos said you're good at picking out lies. Have you ever tried to use that to make money at a gambler's table? Knowing when the other fellow is bluffing sounds like a fine skill to me."

Grant smiles at Fashai. "I've tried to win some money on occasion. However, other people tend to think I'm using magic when, in fact, I'm not." The man pauses for a moment, concentrating while still keeping up his aura of unease. "If truth be told, a lot of my prowess at catching lies is due to others' feelings," Another pause follows this, slightly longer than the previous one, "because I cause discomfort through my mien." He chuckles with satisfaction. "I try to carry this comportment always. It's good to keep in shape, although there are no people here I do not trust to speak with utmost candor."

Countless tiny things about Grant's manner change, and he suddenly stops radiating creepiness. His voice, without the musical, rhythmic quality it possessed before, continues, "In other words, I can also talk normally and not freak out everyone I'm near. It's a huge relief to stop doing it, since it takes so much concentration, but practice makes perfect."
