Ingvar's eyelids lift some time later, heavy from a deep sleep, to look up into darkness tinged with flickers of an orange glow.
Flat on his back, carried on a hastily constructed litter and looking at the cave ceiling the memories return quickly:
The final savage leap that took the remainder of his extraordinary energy; the downward plunge, both hands gripping tight to the hilt; the shriek of stone shedding sparks; the limp wolf pinned into the earth by the needle through its spine.

The people of Pinval are more bedraggled than before, hunched close and looking back into the night, fear shines wide in their eyes.
The large round hole in the floor looks down on a bridge over a lake of fire a hundred feet below. Ropes fastened around the edge are tied fast to a wicker basket -slightly singed- for lowering sacrifices.

Below on the bridge a horde of alien beasts troop past arrayed for war.

The scream rips through the wind and cuts across the open plain. Far below an angry trumpet sounds in reply and loud snorts follow. The scrabbling of claws dislodge loose rocks around the base, but soon they find purchase and the creatures ascend.
In the dim light, only the occasional bulky shadow reveals any sight of them before they crest the steep ridge in front of Vesha, though some of the scraping noises sound less bony claw and more... iron blade...

*Readied action could be very important about now. Please roll Initiatives as well.*

I can't waste any more time on trying to do a proper map, sorry but maybe at the weekend. For now you are the circle according to your text colour.

Vesha's maul lends power to him:
One With the Mountain- he may set himself to receive a charge, using his move action for that round to give him +5 versus any movement based attack (eg overrun, charge, trip etc), and also reflecting d6 damage of the attack against the attacker. Lasts one round, may be used once per round.

Vesha will have 1 round left of his power-up when the creatures engage, though he can spend the intervening 3 rounds in gaining more tokens if he wishes.

Rules of engagement: You are on difficult terrain. You can move freely along the gradients (between horizontal lines which represent 20 foot height increments) but moving up on down an incline can only be done once per round with a full round action.
You need a Climb check DC 15 to do this safely. You may take a -5 challenge to this in order to do it as a Move action only. Alternatively, a Tumble or Balance stunt with DC 18 may mean you can attack at the same time. You gain a +1d6 damage and +2 to hit for such a stunt on someone below you. This replaces the usual +1 to hit for advantage in height.

Thyr grits her teeth at the sound of the trumpet. It appears there are more soldiers coming. Nothing that Thyr was afraid of. She had Faillune back and the two of them together would take on the world.

Readied action: As soon as one of the dark shapes enters gradient she is on, she will attempt to make a jumping attack at them in order to try and land a head wound. Ingvar finds his feet steady, the pounding in his head and heart has subsided and the heat of the cave has given him new vigour.

The headman is not around amongst the bedraggled survivors, only a few of the old men chosen to fight, who carried the litter.

The huntsman sighs, knowing this is not the time to ask about casualties. He turns to the nearby men, speaking gruffly. "Thank you for bearing me. Now you should all follow me, you will be safe here." After taking stock of his weapons - swords, axes, knife, and bow - he begins leading the refugees towards the Ringed Forest People stronghold.

As the creatures run up towards him, Vesha shakes and howls, stomping back and forth and waving his maul like some feral primitive creature. Then, as they get close, he puts himself in a wide stance, hefting his maul ready to hit them.

Then, on the last turn I have before they reach me, I'm spending 2 tokens to extend the power-up another 4 turns, and use a move action to use One With the Mountain, and if I can a standard action to ready an attack, I can't remember if you can do anything else when you ready an action.

The wicker basket seems sturdy and strong enough to lower two of the adults down at a time to the bridge below.
Looking around and weighing up possibilities Ingvar is suddenly distracted by a distance echo off the mountainside and into the cave.

The howl comes from perhaps a mile to the West and sounds like the warcry of a ferocious bear.

The beasts crest the slope, claws churning earth behind them as they scurry on all fours, sprinting as fast as a horse up the rocky incline.

The lead Apekatt (#2) is ginormous, near twenty feet tall itself it trumpet again from its vast nose and it sights Vesha and ploughs upwards towards him.

The Apekatt on its right (#1) is near as big though more controlled, its skin colour is darker and it sticks close to the steeper side of the crevice. It trails an arm that glints with bronze sheen as does the section of its body between its biceps. The trailing arm screeches as the metal clashes against rock and as Thyr tenses to leap, a flash of a creature from nightmare disturbs her focussed mind.

Kain_Tempest I need your attack roll please.

    The two Apekatt mentioned (#1 + 2) are Huge. #3 + 6 are Large. #4 + 5 are Medium.
No need to include attack bonuses for their sizes, but if you do please state this.

The lean huntsman curses as he hears the roar. "By the frozen hells, what now!" He then turns to the villagers. "Quickly, now, get going! Two at a time, the rest of you help lower the basket. I will go last. Now go!" He helps the nearest two into the basket.
