    I believe that it's the freezing point of salt water. Farenheit built a thermometer using a pre-marked tube, then measured the coldest thing he could get a consistant measure of (salt water). He labeled that mark as 0. The freezing point of water happened to fall on the 32nd mark after 0, and the boiling on the 212th.

    Celcius, on the other hand, used an unmarked tube, marked the freezing point of water as 0, the boiling point as 100, and filled in the marks in between.

    Whichever way makes more sense is pretty much up to you. They're mathematically equivalent; which one you use is all based on culture.

    100 F would be a fever for most people. 96.4 F is the "normal" human temperature.

    What do you mean by mathematically equivalent? They're on completely different scales, and involve a (far too) relatively complicated equation to convert. And I think the one I use is pretty comprehensively based on "common sense". Also science. Which actually normally uses Kelvins... Which is Celsius with a more universal 0o.

    Bah.
    I use *C and always will. Fahrenheit is wierd. And hard to spell; but I prefer feet and inches for height (of humans and buildings etc.) and stones etc for mass.

    One day till En Lit and we got piled with Greek Tragedy phrases to use during Lear exam.

    Heh.

    8 exams down so far. 8 left to go.

    *whew*

    Idiot me forgot to bring a calculator to the calculator exam though. Managed to do all the questions except sine, cosine, and tangent ones. And even then I tried to guess the answer, I was so bored. <.< I hate exams. They always set too much time, which means you're sitting around bored for ages. Like the french one I had before - I was set a too easy paper by our teacher. 2 hours needed for it. I finished in about 45 minutes. 1 hour frigging 15 minutes waiting, doodling on the table, trying not to tap my pen or fingers, and just dozing on the table.

    Stupid exam. -_-

    Unless you work in film or tv nobody ever puts together credits. I long for the day that construction teams get a plaque on buildings, and infrastructure gets the individuals that keep our countries running the respect they deserve.

    Probably won't happen though. Being credited in something like infrastucture is probably akin to being liable if things go wrong.

    On imperial... I joined a gym recently and to work out the "work done" the machine takes your weight, one type of machine though doesn't accept kg so I weighed myself in stone on the scales and then when I got back on I realised it was asking for pounds not stone. So I was trying to remember whether it was 8, 12 or 14 I was meant to multiply by and I couldn't, so I've had to look it up. It's that machine that simulates walking in a bog.

    It is 65 degrees outside. This has to be the perfect temperature. *basks* If I were God of the Ecosystem, I'd make it be this way all of the time, at least during the warm season.

    *muse* No, I wouldn't trust myself with cosmic power over nature. Especially since I have been known to run the air conditioner in winter. I'd probably get sick of it after about a week and make it snow all through in August.

    Night-time fog is cool and evocative, and we need more of it. Fog makes everything better...except possibly inshore coastal navigation. And it makes for awesome noir trenchcoat affect.

    But torrential rain and thunderstorms are best. Heavy rain clears the streets of chavs quicker than tear gas or Bach, and Thor has always been the coolest of the god.

    Pepeteiea? Such word doesn't exist, and I can't recall a similar one right now..

    Harmatia
    Hamartia = Aμαρτία
    It's Sin in modern Greek, but in ancient tragedy it had the meaning of the wrong-doing, the accident, the mistake.
    It's something wrong you do because of your ignorance, which makes the hero even more tragic.

    Anagnorisis = Αναγνώρισις
    The Recognition. It's the part of the tragedy where the hero recognises his role and destiny.
    Means recognition in both ancient and modern Greek.

    Vampires don't have to be all broody and melancholy — Spike off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was pretty jovial, at least at first when he was the Big Bad. His later brooding I attribute to the curse on Buffy herself, which turns everyone around her into weepy slabs of "emotions." Even after he buggered off to South America, the curse had so irrevocably transformed into an emo whiner that Drusilla had no choice but to dump him.

    It is possible to break the curse by getting the hell away from the Scooby Gang. Case in point: Riley, who was a cool monster-killing solider before he met Buffy. During their relationship, the curse caused him to develop transparent "issues" about his manhood. After he left, he became well-adjusted again, and got married.

    Angel was a brooder before he met Buffy due to his curse, so she had the opposite effect on him. Instead of getting more glum and whiney, he developed a sense of humour upon reaching Los Angeles and even started dating.

    I believe Curly meant peripeteia, or the turning point in a tragedy.

    Harmatia
    Hamartia = Aμαρτία
    It's Sin in modern Greek, but in ancient tragedy it had the meaning of the wrong-doing, the accident, the mistake.
    It's something wrong you do because of your ignorance, which makes the hero even more tragic.

    Anagnorisis = Αναγνώρισις
    The Recognition. It's the part of the tragedy where the hero recognises his role and destiny.
    Means recognition in both ancient and modern Greek.
    Perepeteia.
    Which is a fall in status, like king/prince to beggar.
    *realises her computer is full of lag*
    Or possibly what DoIhaveaname? suggests too.
    And according to the Lit teacher Harmatia for us (i.e. the really cool way of getting lots and lots of marks is to link it to Oedipus not recognising his blood ties and making a mess because then we can link it to the many occurences of that happening in Lear) is literally missing the target.
    Methinks. Yeah, works in the context of modern Greek too.

    Anagnorisis sounds right.

    And I can now announce I know three to five words in Greek. Yay!

    My vampirism extends to adoring dark atmospheric weather, hating the sun and naturally, dying when someone stakes me in the heart with wood.
    Also crucifxes, but that might be because I'm allergic to gold.
    Curse you, you shiny, shiny metal you.
    And it's now so foggy I can't even see the house fifteen yards away from us!
