Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
SpoilerErik, keeping enough of his wits about him to not spill the beans on the incident that got him assigned here, shares the story of how he made ace-in-a-day in urban combat in Copenhagen against the bugs, eliminating two locusts, a Fireant, and a pair of Grubs that made themselves targets of opportunity. He may or may not be making it up, but provides a detailed play-by-play regardless.
Afterwards, he staggers back to his room, looks blearily at the note, and decides to ignore it on the basis of not knowing what it's talking about or who left it. He then sets a couple of alarms and an automatic coffee pot (if available) for early the following morning and falls asleep.Spoiler

Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
SpoilerSo I take it we're going to timeskip to morning here? I'll start the ritual first thing in the morning when we wake up. I understand that in an extended test you need to roll multiple times, and I understand that I need two successes to successfully complete this ritual, but how many times do I roll? Do I keep rolling until I get the required number of successes (or, Yog-Sothoth forbid, roll a crit failure and trigger a mishap), extending the length of the ritual with each failure? I doubt it'll be hard to get two successes since I'm specialized in casting scrying spells, but, well, just in case...Current Games:

Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
Spoiler
"Fluctuations. From the D-Engine..." Daniel raps playfully on his knee as he gives it a thought.
"The question lacks specifics. D-Engines typically have 3 kinds of problems. Either they don't work at all, they work erratically, or their performance starts peaking until it nosedives into a problem of either of the former two categories.. The problem you set before me clearly fits one of these categories. Hypothetically speaking, if during random conditions, a pilot walks in and complains about D-Engine fluctuations without any apparent reason, then the core of the problem lies not in solving the problem, but finding it. One does not tinker with these things unless you know beforehand what things you can exclude. Step one would be to review the service record of the engine in question. Past anomalies and such should be reported there. Question the pilot based on that knowledge if he has experienced any of the symptoms that earlier problems provide. Then comes diagnostics based on the shell model. Run a Geiger counter over the thing. Open the housing for the primary beam relay. The emitter should give a coherent white beam. Test for amounts of Cherenkov radiation. If that doesn't give you a clear idea on what goes wrong, then you have no alternative." Daniel takes a deep breath and tries to clear his mind, trying not to visualize along with that which he has to tell. "Brace yourself for the coming stimuli and open the panel of the Penrose box when your eye is about level with the edge of the lid. Rise your head slightly until you see both the tops of the array of diagnostic rectangular prisms and the yellow calibration line on the other side of the box. Keep focus on that line and try to resolve the grid of prisms in the uppermost part of your line of sight. Find the one prism which top face doesn't appear to curve upward. Note the row and column." Daniel takes a long and deep breath and swallows. He rubs his temples and lowers his brow. Clear your mind, focus on the nice straight lines on the floor. See? They don't meet up.. They don't meet up.. "Close the lid, turn the engine off, and go get some cup of coffee while it cools down. Try not to look at rectangular edges too much while you try to put your mind back on parallel tracks. Now, when you get back, roll the service module in and keep it near the box. Open the lid and again make sure you can't look at its inner mechanics. Look the other way and put your hand in the box, trying to find the array. Take out the prism you found earlier by feeling for its column and row number. Close the lid. Read the serial code on the prism and have the service module replace the corresponding part." Daniel sits back and takes another breath, this time while looking at the ceiling. When the quesy feeling and the spots before his eyes subside, he looks back at the techs. "Anything else?"
It might have been yours, perhaps, but never mine. And in the end, as the darkness takes me, I am nothing.

George dazedly sat up and rubbed his head. He hadn't had to get up so early in quite a while. "Wha… oh." Standing up, he stumbled over to the door and grabbed for the handle (there are door handles right?) and paused. He looked down to make sure he was still wearing his boxers. Satisfied that he indeed was, he opened the door. "Yeah, what is it?"

Hawk does the usual wake-up routine for a human male. He gets up, complains quietly about how early it is, scratches in places best not discussed in polite company, deals with personal hygiene, then goes to get some breakfast.

Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
SpoilerYou said the rooms were really well-equipped, so that's what I'm assuming, correct anything that's wrong.
Josephine awakens, stretching out on the bed and letting out a prodigious yawn. She kicks the sheets off herself and stumbles into her bathroom. First she brushes her teeth, taking her time to make sure they're really clean, and washing her mouth, she undresses and hops into the shower. She uses cold water to wake herself up.
Afterwards she dries, leaving her hair slightly wet, and dresses in a clean uniform. She wears a holster for her sidearm this time, since she now has one. She returns to the bathroom to apply lipstick, before finally leaving the room, dressed, groomed and hopefully ready, headed for the closest place to have breakfast.Last edited by Meek; 2008-05-05 at 07:57 AM.

Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
Remembering breakfast at 0600, Daniel wakes up in time to get a quick shower and some clothes on along with the rest of the daily morning ritual.
Daniel wears a standard ArcoTech overalls this morning. Since for some odd reason people past a certain age start requiring less sleep, Daniel starts his day in a cheerful mood. Humming a few bars of 'Brain Damage' by Pink Floyd, he walks into the hallway towards the appointed place for communal breakfast, if there is one appointed. If not, Daniel asks for directions to where people have their breakfast there. Walking in, Daniel tries to spot a table where at least one person of the team he met yesterday is sitting, otherwise Daniel takes a vacant table. It might have been yours, perhaps, but never mine. Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
You three all end up in the main mess area.
Josey and Hawk,Spoilerit's the same one you were at last time. Food's precisely the same variety of just too thick soup, though it's still hot. It's actually good for breakfast, even though you had it yesterday, you feel a tad awakened by the thing's not-quite-taste. That is it's main problem, it being designed more for nutrition than flavor, but it's still all right. There are a few less guys around than before, though you see Daniel already seated alone
Daniel,SpoilerIt's a pretty relaxed outside establishment, with several large tin pots of food being kept under a tarpaulin. The workers on duty dole out the traditionally generic main course for outdoor mass prepared food; stogelike meaty stew.
However, it's not so bad a place as it sounds. The staff are smiling, and don't splatter the stew around. And it actually tastes rather good.
There are the usual associated groups of soldiers. A few less than normal at this time of morning, but a fair few. You arrive first, and see Hawk and Josephine coming in later.
Most of those already here seem to be sitting in their own groups however. Judging by the rapport between each other, it's a fair guess they tend to eat in squad based groups, rather than socialize with others.

Re: Cthulhu Tech; Aeon War 1; Shadows of Munich
Erik wakes up and performs his morning routine, rapidly draining the coffee in his room to resolve the minor headache he got from yesterday. He dresses in his BDU, and heads downstairs to the mess. Being slightly bleary this early in the morning, (and for player convenience), he ends up heading to the enlisted mess where the other members of his team are currently eating.
Grabbing a serving of stew, he heads for the table with the people he recognizes, catching Daniel's last comment. "I keep telling people, we're going to Pluto." He sits, uninvited, and starts in on his stew. Between bites, he says, "Actually, I have no clue. I assume we'll be briefed on it."Spoiler

"Nice meeting you Josephine.. I haven't really had to chance to converse with anyone except our friend Hawk here and the techies from the hangar.. as to where we're heading, your guess is as good as mine.." Daniel takes a roll, slices it open, and puts some butter on it. "Yes, I saw you walk by my window yesterday.. haven't seen any other Engels around here, and it was my first time seeing one up close instead of in manuals.. It was quite an impressive sight I must say!" Daniel adjusts his glasses, dips the end of his roll in his soup and takes a bite.
