Re: Warglory, Liberators
Kord retreives the empty casing and loads an AP round. It takes him three rounds.
"Gun ready!"
Ragdar succesfully uses the human radio station. He gets a line to company HQ and gives his report.
"Confirmed, we've lost contact with... *crackles* ...of you, eyes open for survivors, over."
Splinter has taken up position at the trench door with his LMG, Felhelm is with him.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-05-26 at 06:51 PM.

Thorson yells out.
"Are you a Dvergr!"
He points his rifle towards the door at the same time beckoning his teammates into a ready position.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Splinter is closest to that bunker door. He's guarding it. He hears the voice outside.
"Company, sa!" he says over his shoulder to Dudhugger, then shouts to the fellows outside "1st squad 1st platoon, who the heck are you?" in Nagaard tongue.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
"Auright, in 'ere." shouts back Splinter.
When you enter he'll wave you over into the service bay, now being used as a gun room to fire a captured field gun through the truck-wide rear door. A pair of dvergr riflemen rush past to drop in a box of ammo. A big man-sized green-skinned guy is acting as gunner on the light arty piece, a dverger loading and another standing nearby. You should recognise them as you're from the same company, but may not know them by name.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-05-26 at 10:37 PM.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Shouldering his rifle, a muddy, somewhat tall and lanky (for his race that is) Dvergr entered the bunker behind Thorson and Negvar. His battlescarred face revealed that he was surprising old for the front line - at least a decade older than his companions - and a hardened veteran of countless battles.
Taking a quick glance at the new platoon around him, Ghost noted their battle-worn state and let a small smile briefly appear on his face. This, Ghost thought to himself, is war. It may be hell, but it ain't my hell.
He then strode over to the ranking officer (Dalhoon) and said, "Vagn, 2nd Platoon. Where'd you need us?"Last edited by Paladin5; 2008-05-27 at 12:29 AM.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
((We have sadly lost Djinn_in_Tonic. I will be NPCing Dudhugger for now, until i can write him out of the story and promote a replacement.))
Dudhugger looks at him. "Good to have you. Kord, leave that and go keep an eye on things out back. Vagn, hope you've used a field gun before - you're loading."
Loading rules
Spoiler
It takes two turns to reload the gun after each shot. D8, on a 8 you pull it off in one turn. Every time you load the gun you add a +1 modifier to your next attempt as you get the hang of it. On a 1 you will always fail, and take two turns.
Dudhugger turns to Thorson and Negvar. "I'm Sgt. Dalhoon. You'd be?"
*after you've given names...
"Right, you're in 1st platoon for now. Head on out back and find some AP shells. We've only got a couple in here and are gonna need more. Kord'll direct you." says Dudhugger.
That's a D20 awareness check, one each.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-10-10 at 02:16 AM.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Tocha had been watching the rear of what remains of his platoon, but he finally reached forward just as his order was thrown.
Yes, sir! and he jogged out to the back to find some shells.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
You soon encounter a small technical problem. The labels are all written in Houten. Looks like you don't know enough about shells to tell the difference just by looking, either.
((There goes a couple turns for you. Wait and see how the others roll.))

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Another glorious miss from Pie-eater! Not to worry, he's getting his eye in now. (Next shot D10 against tanks or infantry, call the ammo so Paladin5 knows what to load). Ghost has a shot loaded, nobody knows what shell it is though - and it's the last one in here. Hope the lads downstairs find some AP rounds quick...
The tanks have advanced... somewhat. They're now 900 meters away. Infantry are following behind. Even upengined, while Hooky called these "quick" he's not seen tanks go faster than 20kph... To actually cover a kilometer could take this lot the better part of 5 minutes.
Ragdar has found something useful indeed! Yes, there are some Houten frequencies with that human radio set. When he passes them on, it's well received.
"Good work! Keep on this frequency, we're assigning signallers to those frequencie... *crackles* .....atulations to sgt Dal... *crackle, pop* ...repeat, hold position, over!" replies the Captain. Looks like you guys are in the good books.
In the ammo magazine Negvar has more success. He finds a box of AP rounds. Blinkin' hells, they're heavy - Torcha might be able to help move the box up to the gun. ((STR checks, both of you. Don't worry about modifiers.))Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-05-27 at 04:58 PM.

Thorson looks at the enemy infantry. He would have to wait awhile until they got close so he could get a good crack at them.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Thorson and Negvar heft the shells up the stairs and to the gun. Heavy things, but you're pretty strong lads so it's no problem.
((Dragging Szil))
"Firing," says Pie and the field gun bangs another round off. There' s a blast close by one of the tanks, but a miss. Tank guns can be heard firing to either side of the trench, it's a wonderful noise. Only a handful of vehicles are actually firing but between all the sponsons and turrets there's plenty of cannons - only two actually hit. Two Houten tanks have been knocked out.
"Load AP". Says Pie, calling for Ghost to reload.
Ragdar hears a big burst of static. Something is interfering, or his gear may be playing up. Sounded like someone trying to cut into the line and say something. (D20 Prof. Radioman check)
Dudhugger sees Thorson and practically reads his mind.
"Not in here. Corporal Kord!" he calls. Kord appears as if by magic. "Sa?" Dud nods at the door as he speaks "Get the lads to bring up a box of HE rounds then back into the trench, lay fire on infantry. Leave Ragdar with us in here." "Aye, sa!" says Kord.
Kord taps Thorson and Negvar straight away, then Felhelm, Deadpan, Hooky (Rifles), Weasel (sniper), Splinter (MG) are gathered up and Kord takes the lot of you out of the bunker into the trench.
The place is a mess. There were just a few bodies before, now sections of it have collapsed and the turn that was 20 meters away earlier is now just the edge of a crater 30 meters across. There is room for you in this section of trench though, he spreads you across it and puts Splinter with Hooky over at the crater.
Kord speaks up. "Rifles, fire at will but slow pace - make 'em count. Spinter and Negvar, find some human rifles and do the same. I'll want fire along their flanks if they reach 300 meters. Ready arms!"
((Random, no awareness check needed - the human rifles are lieing close at hand. Grab one and a couple spare clips off the dead men.))
Once that's done, Kord orders "Fire at will!". This is a long shot but WW1 rifles are very long ranged, much longer than most modern ones. For once this is about to be useful. The infantry are advancing at walking pace toward you from 900 meters, and are currently between the tanks - that makes them exposed. D8 shot, Thorson's dvergr rifle is 7+ to kill. Negvar's looted human rifle is 7 to wound, 8 to kill. This shot is too long ranged for full speed shooting, so you may only fire once per round with any accuracy.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
Taking a quick glance at the soldiers leaving the bunker, Ghost feels a small desire to be out with them engaging in real, infantry combat. After a small shake of his head, Ghost yells to Pie, "Loading AP round!", and moves to ready the gun to fire again.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
"Right," Negvar says. Leaning over the nearest ex-Houten trooper, he claims the man's rifle, a couple of clips, and as an afterthought, any grenades he was carrying. Not knowing the status of the clip in the weapon, he simply repaces it with a fresh one as he moves into position. When the fire order is given, he takes aim and fires at the approaching infantry, but misses completely.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
As the blast bellows through the small bunker Ragdar recovers and tries to shake off the ringing, intent on finding that crackle he heard right before the blast. He glances upward as he works on the radio to see if there are any nearby powercords disrupting the signal.
{radio-check to find the latest com, +10 to (1d20)[1] and if there are any obvious sources of disruptive power cords etc he will try to minimize that interferance by shutting them dowm}

Re: Warglory, Liberators
For Ragdar there's a pop and a heart-breaking burnt smell; his radio just died. Time to see if he can fix it. Lucky you've got some spare fuses and whatnot in that lumpy pack of yours... and you can always steal a few bits out of the human radio.
(Prof: Radioman check to attempt repair. If you fail, you can take another check to try and find parts in the bunker radio then a third one to attempt repair again. First attempt will take at least one minute.)
Pie-Eater's shot goes wide, straight over the heads of some escorting infantry. It might have made them flinch, but didn't hit anything.
((Szil, you forgot to call for ammo again.))
The dvergr tanks and cannon-armed APCs (much the same thing in this era) fire off another barrage. They don't have much success this time though, only a couple hits. One of the struck tanks doesn't even stop, but another further along the line stops dead. Broken down, most likely. The rest of the Houten tanks are still advancing, about a hundred in total.
((Dragging Rayz))
The rifles in the trench achieve only one hit, but they are at quite long range. Even Weasel missed, and he's a sniper! Negvar watches the tracer of his first shot, as do the others. The arc of it helps with your next one. (D6, tripple turn so roll three of them)Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-05-28 at 04:18 PM.

Re: Warglory, Liberators
It was quickly obvious from Negvar's firing that he was out of practice firing bolt-action rifles in a combat situation, and the unfamiliar weapon was not helping any. The first round is close, but a miss, but he overcorrects and sends the next two long. "Bloody useless Houten garbage," he mutters.
