Default Erfworld 108: The Battle for Gobwin Knob, page 98

Yay, new comic is up. (And heh, three threads made for it in the span of four minutes.)

Lots of exposition, some nice interaction between Parson and Wanda, some old questions answered and new ones to ask--like just who/what is it that she's reanimating in the last panel?

Also, panel 7 was a nice reminder of why I'm a Firebaugh fan.

White shirt. Red Skirt. Brown Hair, Brown Skin. It's one of Charlie's Archons.
If you find yourself watching Power Rangers and wonder how some characters got their powers and zords back for an anniversary episode, just assume they were restored off screen. They have 20+ seasons of team geniuses to call on.

    Panel 7, best yet.

Need that in avatar size, without the text bubble.

Wanda is casting a spell on the body of one of the croaked Archons (presumably to make an uncroaked Archon).

Yeah, she's doing her thing on Jaclyn, the archon. Of course, that means that it's safe to assume that she and the others were nuked. I'd assume that Jillian's safe, though, but it's still a tricky business.

Sorry! I didn't see that this thread had already started! I'll go back and try to nuke the other one I made.

    (What I wrote there…)

I think the conversations are the strongest pieces of this story. The action is fine and well done and all, but simple interactions, like this one, keep me coming back.

But it has been a while, hasn't it?
For another fantasy webcomic with Dungeons and Dragons, read Heroes of Lesser Earth now, before it becomes cool and everyone starts doing it!

Oh man, Wanda uncroaking an Archon... I wonder if they can still fly, or if Wanda could make her into a Commander or caster of any kind...

And if Jillian IS dead, well, it looks like Wanda has a new "pet"...

This comic is just plain subversive. It's starting to grow on me. It's like there's a part of it that's supposed to be heartwarming -- Parson telling Wanda she's a loyal and valued member of the team, who still has something to contribute... just as he's gobsmacked in the face with the reminder that what Wanda can contribute is the ability to raise corpses into an unholy semblance of life.

And just for bonus points it's this gal getting the treatment. I know I'm stating the obvious, but I hadn't paid much attention to this side of the aisle before.

She looks good like that. Without the crown I mean. She dresses too over the top the rest of the time, I think.

She's got a great glint in her eye on panel 7. That should be blown up.

Again, it's pointed out that Ansom has enough power to crush Parson with no problems. He doesn't need the men going in the tunnels. All losing them can do is cause psychological damage to their moral.

Which is what has to happen to win. There is no way this can be won militarily. It's also interesting to know that it wasn't a spell so much Wanda used but the fortress itself that had it's defensive mechanisms activated.

I dunno, I think the text only adds to it, but definitely need that as an avatar.

[Edit: Very nice, Steve, thanks for doing that.]

And so much for the idea that her spell was a mass-scale slay living/create undead hybrid, though looks like we'll be getting zombie archons regardless. Too bad, but then Charlie's Rules exist for a reason I guess.

I just might take that bet. My guess is she got blown a good distance away but is still alive and feeling something akin to what Wanda was going through after her own plan backfired. I can see her and Doombats as the sole survivors (fun times there) resuming their chase of Stanley.

If she uncroaks all of ansoms aerial troops she just croaked-especially the archons--that would be a big boost to gobwin knob's air defense.

And even if the Archons can't be used for aerial attacks, she increased their comparitive strength by doing nothing else then reducing the RCC's aerial superiority.

Great comic. I wanted Stanley to come back but this comic changed my opinion. Seems Gobwin Knob can manage without him.

I totally agree. I love the contrast between the casual, open friendliness of panel 10, where she's got her arm hooked around Parson's and leaning against him for support and the fact that she's reanimating the dead. Heck, even as she is performing what is stereotypically the most evil of magicks, her look is calm, almost meditative.

    Subversive, indeed.
