Re: That Guy with a Halberd
No! He is a paragon of virtue and goodness! He is a spring of morality and honor! If something, he will be a great captain among captains or a god among gods!! Kiddin'. I'm not THAT fanatist.
Nah, seriously, we're not THAT exagerated. But he IS an important character! He MUST be! There's an acute rational reason behind this! No, seriously! ...why are you looking me like that?An eye for an eye will make us all blind - Mahatma Ghandi.
Also Water is a molecule, Air is a bunch of different molecules, and don't let me get started on Earth.
(Sorry, I'm a Chemist, can't resist.)

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Removed because I have shared my opinion.
I mean, TGwaH is a once-appearing character (I think). He should have done something more than sorta contribute to a joke.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
All right, we all know that That Guy is an awesome Guy -- but is it absolutely certain that what he is With is A Halberd? I have no intention of being slighting of our hero, and I will grant that I may well be out of touch, being an old First Edition type, myself, who learned the polearms out of Unearthed Arcana -- but doesn't a halberd always have a spear point on top? His weapon seems not to have one. How can one be sure that he is not TGWALA (That Guy With A Lochaber Axe) or TGWAVG (That Guy With A Voulge-Guisarme) or TGWAGGGVG (That Guy With A Glaive-Guisarme-Glaive-Voulge-Guisarme -- hang on, I think I'm drifting into the wrong comic).
I will always support That Guy With The...Whatever, and I know that in Arms and the Man, the man counts for more than the arms, but it would be nice to know that a trusty weapon really is trusty and not going around under false pretences. Please, set my mind at rest.“But he had not that supreme gift of the artist, the knowledge of when to stop.”

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Hey I tried to read the entire post, but it's too long... Read a lot, tough...
I like the GwaH, and I plan to join the fan club, if I may...
But...
Has anyone saw what I just saw:
TWO GWAH (not the magenta one) ARGUING!
At 452, panels:
1st GwaH (right-handed (does it mean anything?)): 3rd, 4th.
2nd GwaH (holding two-handed): 8th.
GwaH (left-handed, may be the 2nd or a 3rd GwaH): 14th, 15th and 16th. (probably our man, quiet, not spoking, unfortunatelly this guy is overrun by hobgobs! Does he survive?)
I didn't find the promised list of all GwaH appeareances, but this one should definatelly be there!Last edited by srbrunoaf; 2009-08-29 at 11:22 PM.

Those are all of the sightings from the numbered comics, but he's also in SoD on pages 27 and 28(you actually can't see the upper half of him though, but hes holding a polearm, so I assumed it was him).
It hasn't been updated in a while, so it's probably missing a lot.Last edited by mr.fizzypop; 2009-08-30 at 12:00 AM.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Doesn't this just affirm that the halberd
iswas a very popular weapon in the Azure City military? A little less than half the soldiers seem to be wielding them. All or most of the guards certainly seem to have them. All in all, you have over 20 GwH there.
Incidentally, what's this magenta GwaH? At first glance, I don't see any halberds in #523.[br]

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
i want more worms in this strip.
everyone should have worms!Well, I just figured we'd wander around, kill some sentient creatures because they had green skin and fangs and we don't, and then take their stuff.

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
I managed to read most of this thread when I started posting about half a year ago and somewhat kept up with its progress. It's gotten cold (or "died") and been revived more than once. When the regulars stopped posting everyone else followed, and when they came back some of the rest did as well...less every time, with more time elapsing between posts (starting at only a couple of days at a time and ending in, as of right now, months). As it happened with the That Guy With a Halberd writing contest thread, a moderator might close this one. Until then, it might be fun to keep reviving it...I think the last post actually about TGWAH was posted a couple of months ago...anyhow...
As far as the magenta TGWAH goes, I never quite figured out if one actually appears in the comic (I never found him myself), if it was created by this Thread, or if it refers to right handed guys with halberds (lower cases intentional) since TGWAH is said to be left handed (i.e. in http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0452.html it is a right handed guy with a halberd that encourages Azurites to leave (panel 4); whereas TGWAH, left handed (the three panels before the last) is shown awaiting the hobgoblin army with a serene and stern expression that denotes his stoic nature u____u.)

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
Perhaps someone should set up a GwaH shrine offsite, in order to keep from annoying the
infidelspeople who are not fans. It would have to link back to the comid, of course. Then all the fan-fiction and fan-art could be collected in one handy on-line codex.
I still wanna know why his halberd doesn't have a spike on top.
Apparently the Japanese for "halberd" is "hoko." H'okay...“But he had not that supreme gift of the artist, the knowledge of when to stop.”

Re: That Guy with a Halberd
The magenta one, usually named "the other Guy with a Halberd" or toGwaH, is the nemesis of our beloved tGwaH and is shown in the 7th panel of strip #533. His belt is magenta, which makes him a traitor to Azure City and his rightful ruler, Lord Hinjo!
