The Gem Sea Sailors

[The_JJ]

Salmaan fails to get a good grip on the pirate ship, in part because, with their captain down and the rest of the force in disarray, the pirates have choosen to run. They push off and plow onward, chased by another hail of arrows from the deck. The two left on the deck do, however, throw their weapons down with a twin cry of 'Quarter!'

Ugh. Note to self, large combats do not work in PBP. I'll try to work in more singular, but stronger opponents.

Also, I'll be dropping off the edge of the Earth for the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 26 for those of you who aren't American) and a little after, for some mountain biking fun. No internet out in the Canyonlands, unfortunatly.

Thaddeus walks 20 feet to be closer to the other ship and cast ray of enfeeblement on the pirate who seems to be doing a choke point type job (steering or if only one is working the rigging).

You manage to get one of the pirates who is pulling the tiller, but he manages to throw himself into the work and a friend soon joins him. The ship it seems is well away.

"Damn." Menchi hops down to the two pirates and rests his shield on it's hook. He looks them up and down to see if they're as able as the rest of the crew. He looks at any exposed skin for typical pirate malnutrition (called scurvy by experts) and tries to sneak a look in their mouths to spot missing teeth.
proffesion(sailor) check to see if it's worth keeping them... [roll]1d20+10[roll] Oops. Taking 20, I guess.

When the ship gets away despite his best efforts a the normaly jovial halfling's face darkens. He then looks at the two surrendered pirates. You surrendered to us. That's fine. First indicate on this map where your base of opperations is. As he says those words Thaddeus pulls a rough map out of his pack and offers it to the newly arrived men.

Edward clambers out of the hold, holstering his crossbow. He crosses the deck, over to where the prisoners sit.



"I've found that, in situations like this, it helps to say 'please'. It also helps to offer a friendly drink." Reaching into his coat, he removes a flask, uncaps it, takes a nip, and extends it towards the two pirates. "It's good stuff. Probably better than you were getting. Try not to finish it off."

Back onboard, Salmaan pats down any stray water before regarding the pirates with an air of contempt. She squats down, looking them in the eye (assuming they're down of the ground) and demands of them, "What do you know about the Crows? Bistro!"

They're kneeling at this point, and being tied up by the crew. One of them is clearly panicing, the other seems defiant. Both look fairly well nurished, and scurvy free. Probably work out of a base close to home, and the Gem Sea generally has a fair amount of citrus fruits being traced throughout the area, from the Southern bits of the Menoah Empire.

The pirates look at Thaddeus's map. The first, the scared one, gabbles out Ah, I don't know. I'm not the navigator, I swear! Please! I'm sorry.
The second shrugs Shut up Tal. Neither of us are much for maps, mister. Who're you lot then? Yer to raggedy to be normal law,
but to strong to be jes' any merchenteers. He looks at Farrington with slight contempt. Alright Mr. Nice Guy. I'll have a go. He proceeds to gulp down three swallows. Cheers.
When Salmaan comes up over the side Tal starts gibbering again.
Ah man Keg, they are the law. They're hunting pirates.
Keg just rolls his eyes.

[SilentNight]

"What do you mean?" she asks, "Explain if you value your useless head." She seems to be getting more and more vehement, onlookers aren't quite sure if it's an intimidation act or not.

They are the law Keg. Tal wails. I should've never joined. They'll hang us you know. Piracy is a hangin' offence no matter what port you come from. I don't want to die Keg.

Well what do you want me to do about it kid? The other pirate stares straight at the vicious looking halfling. Crow's huh? That's a can of worms for yah.

[SilentNight]

"What. Do. You. Mean?" Salmaan reiterates through clenched teeth, each word a sentence. "Explain before I have to cut the answer out of your brain."

Thaddeus grabs his map with a scowl. Fine. However let me remind you that you will be useful to me in one way or another. Give us a substancial amount of information about the crows or we'll use you as chum.

Shut up kid. Tal cuts his companion off even as he goes into another round of self-pitying wails. Look, the Crows are rough waters by any measure. You wanna screw with that, be my guest, just toss me overboard before you do, alright? Okay, so you wanna find the Crow hideout? Heh. Law's been trying that for years. Us Crimsons steered wide of that. But I keep my ears open. I hear Menoah's sent some people poking 'round the... his voice drops to a gleeful conspiritory whisper Obsidians.

[SilentNight]

Salmaan hopefully looks towards Menchi, "Do you know what he's talking about?" she asks.

Gav pokes his head out of the hatch that leads below decks. I knew it! I knew it! His presense sparks from odd looks from the crew. The Obsidian! It's the perfect hiding place!

Salmaan quickly whips her head around to regard to Gav. "Why?" she barks.

[The_JJ]

Well, the Obsidians are famed for their inaccessability.

What the chatterbox is sayin' is that any ship that goes don't come out again.

"But you know a way, don't you?" Salmaan growls, half querie, half threat.

[elonin]

Thaddeus watches the conversation without interupting.

[The_JJ]

I don't. If I did, Crow'd be all over me. If they knew I knew. But uh... I know a guy who knows a guy.

Salmaan sighs, "Nothing better? Explain then."

[The_JJ]

Things like the Obsidians always get people who have no real lives all fired up. He glances at Gav. So I here there are these professor types that are all intrested in them. Stuff like that. I know a guy who knows some of these professor people. He lives in the Meridia. That's down south Menoah, for you lubbers.

She looks to Menchi, "What are you waiting for? Let's go!"

Edward scratches his chin thoughtfully. "It makes for a more roundabout route, but I suppose that's better for trade. I'm all for it."

The Captain wanders up. Very well, we set sail. Navigator? You may guide us.

Menchi gives a nod and hurries off to his cabin to plot a course. The obsidians were supposed to be surrounded by reefs, weren't they? Or maybe it was whirlpools. Sea Dragons? He shook his head and wandered off in thought, using his compass to plot the proper course south.

Satisfied, Salmaan wanders over to the helm to gaze into the sea. The crows would soon be hers.
