Re: Destro Yersul's Dangerously Distracting and Doubtlessly Disturbing Random Banter
I have to say, reading Gaiman's American Gods is so much more entertaining when you're actually from Illinois...
I couldn't help but smile when the raven said to go to Kay-ro...

American Gods! It is one of my favourite books ever.

I should re-read it.
The bit in the woods, though.

"<Fornicate> you", said the raven.

That was just the icing on the cake, coming right after the Kay-ro bit.
(If you're wondering, that actually is how we pronounce the name of that city here.)
I can't wait to pick it back up...but I promised 1000 words a day and by Shar I'm going to deliver!

god I loved american gods, although I haven't read it in way too long now,
also loved Gaiman's Fragile Things, especially the first story the Sherlock Holmes/Lovecraft cross-over is pretty brilliant

I'm a fan of some of the excahnges from Way of the Wolf:
Protaganist: "Hold! What are your names?"
Other Guy: "Well, I'm 'Mind your own <Diety-cursed> Business', this is my brotherm 'Or I'll rip off your <Fornicating> Head' and his cousin, 'And <expel solid waste> down your neck'!"
~~~
Also, later on in the book:
Future Love Intrest: "Whats your name?"
Protagnist: "David."
Future Love interest: (Pointing to Protagonist's injured sqaud mate, whom she is about to apply firt aid to) "And what is his name?"
Protagnist: "Injured man of average height"NaNoWriMo Beat Me
Re: Destro Yersul's Dangerously Distracting and Doubtlessly Disturbing Random Banter
*sigh*
I need to read American Gods; I think the college has it though so it's all good. I might have read it Saturday but I was distracted by a new Discworld book: The Folklore of the Discworld and I love it. It's a sort of explanation on many of the myths and folklore of the Disc but also where it came from. So the gods are actually spoken of as if they stole some aspect of themselves from earth.
I love that book.
Then I went hunting for I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak in Smiths' but I couldn't find a copy so I was left feeling miffed. I hall have to wait for Christmas now.
Anything else?
Oh, I've become utterly addicted to Run Run Away by Slade. I must've listened to it thirty times today alone.
See chameleon lying there in the sun
Total ear worm. But so darn good. *listens again*
Oh, and that line above is possibly the most catchy part of it all.
Even worse than Boom De Yada.
Re: Destro Yersul's Dangerously Distracting and Doubtlessly Disturbing Random Banter
Hey, I got a random question for anyone out there. Has anyone here read Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman? Also, have you played the song Elephant Bones on Guitar hero 2? The reason these are related, is because there is a quote in the loading screen for the song, that I believe to be taken, and slighly changed, from Good Omens. It ends with the phrase "That handsome devil".
Re: Destro Yersul's Dangerously Distracting and Doubtlessly Disturbing Random Banter
Today was an absolutely terrible day.
SpoilerI have a song to write for music which I have started three times and given up on three times. I just don't like anything I'm writing at the moment. I have until next Wednesday, but my only chance to write the song will be before and after school. I don't have the music program at home, the demo version cannot save, and I can't afford the program.
This is especially frustrating because I consider myself fairly musical and I'm a fairly good composer. It's the damn lyrics that are tripping me up, though. The lyrics and the tune refuse to go together, and when stuff refuses to go together quickly, I decide I don't like it and have to start again.
Half of me is saying "Dude, it's a freaking assessment for a subject that you'll never pursue inside of school. Why bother?" and my proud, perfectionist side is saying "But I want to do it right! I just want to have it perfect!" And then the other half ((yeah, I have three halves)) is saying "Well I can't be bothered but I'm going to waste a lot of time moaning about it, procrastinating, and getting distr---ooh, there's a bird!"
Also, Curly, I have converted my mum to The Book Thief. Now you have mentioned it, I must try find more books by Markus Zusak...formerly known as xNadia
xNadia, from one perfectionist to another....
1) our pretty good is still 10x better than most people's kick ass.
2) Pretty good is still better than not done at all.
*Note I have to tell myself this like a million times a day.
Now tomorrow's goal will be to end my epic level procrastination.Last edited by Thes Hunter; 2008-09-15 at 12:09 AM.
Re: Destro Yersul's Dangerously Distracting and Doubtlessly Disturbing Random Banter
My major goal is to get back into the gym at work, especially since I generally have absolutely nothing to do at least half the day (this upcoming week it's looking like afternoons). The trouble is I hurt my foot and it took several months to heal, so I don't have anywhere near the endurance I had at the start of the year. Also, the lack of exercise the past while has made me feel extremely lazy. And since none of my other habits changed, I put on probably 30-40 pounds.
