1, 2, 3! The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
It's just me, or when I reed "123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111", in my mind I understood "1, 2, 3! The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111"?
If it's just me, it's awesome anyway.

Nice page!
Have y'all looked at the Angels in Panel 2? I think the poodle-skirt girl is giving Charlie a live-feed into Gobwin Knob HQ... maybe Parson should think about moving to a less exposed position?
I have no idea what the stewardess is doing on the left. Maybe limbering up for battle?Lead Designer for Oracle Hunter GamesToday a Blog, Tomorrow a Business!

That is strange, considering that it's a Nutcracker (page 4).
It's the modern version?

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
The story has had enough twists that it is silly to predict. They could both live or both die or either combination of the two.
Interesting but sad possibility. I guess he could even justify it. But it still minimizes the enemy damage, so I'm not sure duty would allow it?
He does. Stanley rides a red dragon. Those three are the Knights, not Stanley.
No clue on "exactly", but a combination of illusions and veiling could make it hard to tell where the enemy is.
This has been discussed again, but KISS showed up on page 82. It was discussed.
The comic has many gaming references. After all, Parson is a gamer.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Remember that axe is slang for guitar, and Stanley is playing the arkenhammer like a guitar in the last panel of the comic. Thus, the comment, "I thought he had the arkenhammer, not the arkenaxe." Might as well call it the arkenguitar, y'see?
Anyway, to be honest, the "Mario" vampire reminds me almost of the butcher from Gangs of New York. (Sidenote: Do you underline movie titles? I think you do, but I'm not sure.) In the fight scenes, at least, I thought I remembered him having a hat like that, suspenders, a white shirt, and dark pants. Considering all the gang themes going on, I suppose this could be a possibility, too? *shrug*
As to the question of a foolamancer's capability in a fight: Considering how powerful illusions can be, and he's supposed to be one of the best, I imagine Jack could turn the tide of a war if he so chose.
Edit: Oh, yeah, one final thought: Does anyone else think the scene where the bats completely surround Stanley's dragons just looks awesome?
Edit part 2: And, the archons, to me, just look like they're trying to overhear his conversation, not actually transmit anything back to Charlie. I .. I don't know if they could, because isn't it Parson's turn right now? And they can only act on their turn, soo...
Edit 3: D'aargh, I keep forgetting to add stuff This time it's about Sizemore. I agree more with the Pratchett reference someone earlier made: He reminds me of the guy who's normally nice, quiet, and nobody assumes he could hurt a fly. Until he turns around and wtfpwns someone's face. In fact, I hope that the phrase "Sizemore wtfpwned <someone/something>" turns up in Parson's eyebook.
Edit 4: One for the road: Awesome comic, though.Last edited by Vonriel; 2008-09-21 at 12:55 PM.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
So if Stanley is playing his Arkentool like a guitar, I bet he's good at doing Hammer-Ons.
There's another joke about a Whammy Bar in there too. Maybe that's the sound the Arkenhammer makes when he whacks someone with it? WHAMMY!
But still, given the stack that Stanley's leading, shouldn't he be playing songs by DragonForce?

I think "Mario" is based on the Biker from the Village People.

"I Love It Loud" is an 80's song, but the "You're lightning's all I need" snippet is from the 70's Shock Me, by KISS' guitarist Ace Frehley. Search YouTube, or just look in the dictionary under "Guitar God" for his picture.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
I'm not so sure either of them are doing thinkagrams. Put it this way;
It's a bright sunny day, and you want to look through a window into a room which is not brightly lit. What do you do?
From what I've seen in the comic so far, a thinkagram involves making a square using a finger and thumb on each hand. In the archon's case it looks like they are just shielding thier eyes from the sun to give them a better view.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Not always.
It might make sense for the Poodle Skirt, but the Stewardess isn't holding her arms to block out the light. She has her arms crossed, which seems a little awkward for just blocking the light.
And well, if the Archons are actually pressing against the glass to see what's going on... Redacted for FilthLast edited by Oracle_Hunter; 2008-09-21 at 01:23 PM.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Stanly’s goal isn’t to have a battle here though I doubt he would be upset about offing a few hundred bats. His goal here is a punch through.
A punch through was one of the options available to Ansome and Vinnie when they were trapped in the dwagon ring. They don’t have to kill anything, just get to the next hex.
Once Stanley punches through he makes a run for FAQ. Since it is not Transilvitp’s turn they get to sit in this hex and wait. Meanwhile Stanley will keep on to Faq and head for one of its three cities. He should have enough move to get there. The Transilvito team may have enough move to get to one of the Faq cities but not all of them, so they will have to guess which of the Faq cities Stanley heads to and risk guessing wrong or split up making an encounter with Stanley and his dwagons unwinnable.Last edited by IronBear; 2008-09-21 at 01:46 PM.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Actually, what Stanley did there with the Thinkamancer was an audio-only thinkagram, not a visual thinkagram. That was similar to what Don King was doing with Vinnie in #111.
I can't think of a single visual thinkagram in the comic that didn't do the thumb-and-forefingers thing.

Yes, more obscure heavy metal references for you non-rockers!
OK, I'll explain: Ozzy Osbournes (From Black Sabbath) stage gimmic was to bite the head off a rubber bat...Just as Simmons (From Kiss) gimmic was to spit fake blood all over the place.Bad to the Bone!

Actually, it fits perfectly to one of the Jets' motifs; it's a very recognizable motif and it came straight into my head when I saw those da-doos. I think they da-doo it on the way to the fight but haven't found the scene yet. In any case, it's used in Jet Song; watch for the words "You're never alone, you're never disconnected."
This line made me laugh: "Here come the Jets like a bat out of hell…" Swap Jet and bat and you're away.

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Yea, well I think we've always agreed that Stanley is completely incompetent at strategy. But I never said he didn't know how to win a fight. I've always sort of assumed that he was a true terror in a straight up battle.
And the whole rock and roll fighting thing, very badass. I am quite confident Stanley is going to bust right through this one. First, they were planning on having Charlie here as well, they're having to do without, and Second, I think they're simply underestimating Stanley's value in a fight. He may be a crappy leader, But he is a NOT a crappy warlord.
It's a pretty safe bet that Stanley has a solid +9 leadership bonus, plus whatever the arkham hammer gives. He may also be getting a circumstance bonus for the flight of dragons in combination with the arkham hammer. And finally I would expect that rock and roll is bound to be nastier in a fight than west side story. (no offense). ;P

Re: 123, The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 111
Well, at least there is hope that Vinny will survive, since Stanley said earlier that "We're punching through!” So it won't be a drawn out fight-to-the-death. It doesn't have to be. It is Stanley's turn, so the Transylvito/Jillian forces cannot follow him to Faq. At least not this turn. So, plot wise, there is a very good chance that Vinny will make it out of the battle. It would be the first main character death in the story. So far it has only been ancillary (Misty, Manpower, Jaclyn) characters that have croaked.
Awesome comic though.
