For comparison, if you ploughed a traditional Elizabethan warship into the side of HMS Invincible (A modern British aircraft carrier), you'd mostly just give it a noticeable dent that would then probably be buffed out.

Small wooden ship versus massive metal/rock hybrid ship isn't a favourable combination.
