Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I think I discovered something about Parson's sword hilt.
I was travelling this last week, and in the hotel one of the cable channels was playing the 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian. And I thought that Conan's sword looked a mite familiar...
You can see drawings of the hilt in strips 96 and 118.
I've been trying to find a picture of the sword; there's a pretty good close up of the hilt on the movie poster for the upcoming remake, shown here.
Amazon has a view of the whole sword too:
Note the upside down birds on the hilt, with the beaks facing out. Also in the 2009 poster, note the slitted "eye" design on the center of the hilt, which matches the trapezoid in the same place in #96.
Also, note the blade grip (the 2nd piece Parson got in his breakfast) and the general size/proportions of everything.
Maybe its just me, but they look pretty similar! And besides, could there be any warlord more perfect than Conan?

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
maybe, I don't think parsons version is as large. I do look forward to seeing him in combat though.

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
It's not surprising. Lots of things in Erfworld are from the real world; why not Parson's sword, too?

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
makes me wonder, what else in erf is from our world? maybe all the characters are fictitious versions of real people?

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
we do have on other named human other than parson, for some reason that strikes as important. Though, maybe they just want me to think that.

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
That style of sword is pretty common in fantasy. (Not actually so much in reality, but...)
I'm not saying it's definitely not the Atlantean Sword, but it doesn't have to be, although if it were that would fit with the whole pop culture references thing Erf has goin on.

Uh oh. It may be foreshadowing. GK may fall and the next episode of Erfworld will be about...
...PARSON THE BARBARIAN...
My Avatar is Vinnie Doombats from the Erfworld comic written by Rob Balder and illustrated by Jamie Noguchi.

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
That would actually be pretty awesome. Assuming he has all of his named units along with him.
"I mean, really, he's just a barbarian, what could he possibly do to us?"

I consider myself an author first, a GM second and a player third.
The three skill-sets are only tangentially related.

Re: Original Wielder of Parson's Sword
Talking about craft create disturbing mental image, Conan's hand placements on the sword, which itself has particular associations...
As to Jillian the shirtless barbarian, however, I'm fine with the ayes, but realize her hair would be long in compensation and thus provide strategic cover.
