Barok stays silent as the human-like thing talks. He knows that the medallion wasn't taken from anyone. It had been sitting in an altar that dated back centuries. Nothing had been touched there... so whatever it is, is lying to the group. Even though he knows this, he doesn't speak up, remembering his failure last time as trying to be sneaky. His hand starts to stray towards the medallion under the "rusted" chainmail, but catches himself in time to stop.

According to "The Way of the General" by Occam Tyaelus, coincidence on the battlefield should always be treated as enemy subterfuge until proven otherwise. In accordance with this, Jorim begins examining his opponents and playing out several possible tactical strategies in his mind.

As the knight, the kender, and the mage move toward the cart, the figures move to let them through. As you three approach the cart, you throw back the burlap and are horrified by what you see.

The man, dressed in robes like the others, lays with his feet nearest to you. His exposed skin, on both hands and feet, is covered in thick scales the color of dirty brass, and (even more shockingly) the hands and feet seem deformed and end not in fingers but in long claws. You gasp and look quickly to the "man's" face, and as you do you notice not a human face, but a scaly toothed maw on an elongated, reptilian face.

As you notice this, though, the ambush falls down around you. The figures rip off their robes and reveal armor and longswords, and most shockingly of all, wings! Even the one in the cart, obviously not sick, grabs a nearby weapon, and the battle begins!

The dark square on the map is the cart, which rests on two wheels and two legs (like a big wheelbarrow). Moving into or out of the cart takes two squares of movement that provokes OAs (since you've got to climb up in it). Creatures inside the cart have cover against those outside, and those outside have cover to those inside. The rest is normal terrain, except the undergrowth/foresty bit on the edge (dark green) which is lightly obscured and can provide concealment.

Johanai's mighty spell slows down all of the scaly clawed enemies and two seem much worse off, but the spell also slows down the two knights, the kender, and the mage himself. The mage throws off the effects and the kender seems to be near the doing the same, but the knights are both in danger of falling asleep in the middle of battle!
